I was waitlisted back in September and have been told there was no change in my status for two rounds now. The reason I am telling you this is b/c I emailed them today after I was waitlisted again and they said around 5-10 ppl get off each decision date.
 
I was accepted off the waitlist yesterday! I'm OOS. 😀
 
Does anyone know how to get financial aid/scholarships besides from FAFSA? It's so expensive for OOS.
 
My first acceptance!! 1 hour after the WSU email, I got another acceptance from Rush! I'll probably have to pull out of wsu because of the oos tuition. good luck everyone!!
 
Accepted yesterday 😀. It was my first acceptance, and Wayne is probably my top choice, so seeing it I actually jumped up and managed to punch a ceiling fan blade off the fan 😀. Congrats to everyone else who got their acceptance!

Stats for anyone who likes to know dates and stats: 3.92 34O, Undergrad at WSU, Secondary received on 9/8, interview invite 11/20, Interview 12/8, Accepted 12/22

Hi all,

I'm quite new to this, so a big thanks to all of you in advance for your help.

I got the interview letter today from WSU for Jan. 18th. Can you guys suggest a place/area to stay? Also, does anyone know the style of their interviews usually? Stressful/etc.?

Congratulations on your interview invite!

Unfortunately, I can't help you much on where to stay. I live only two hours from the school, and I just drove there the day of my interview. However, there is opportunities to stay with current students (maybe a good way to get a feel for the school's atmosphere?). You can find information about this on the WSU SOM website.

Although I felt my interview to be fairly relaxed, you should definitely know your application inside and out. Be prepared to explain anything and everything that you have ever written. When I interviewed, we discussed literally EVERYTHING on my AMCAS application as well as the central ideas of my secondary essays. I'm sure different interviewers take a different approach to interviewing, but my interviewer was pretty laid back. Although she had a bunch of questions about my application, they were fairly straightforward questions, and at no point did I feel as if I was being "grilled." We even found time for a little bit of humor during the approximately forty five minute interview, and I left with a fairly good feeling about the whole experience. I interviewed on November 23, and was accepted on December 22.

Relax. Be yourself. And be confident. Obviously, you have what it takes to attend WSU SOM. If not, they would not have invited you for an interview. The interview is just another chance to shine. Hopefully I will see you this August!
 
Congrats to all those who were accepted. if you know you'll be matriculating with WSU, there is a facebook group "WSU SoM class of 2015" to keep everyone updated on any & everything.
By the way anyone know when WSU updates "Entering freshman forms" page, which gives info on tuition & schedule & stuff.?

So, my official letter hasn't come in yet but I was accepted on 12/22. Does anyone know how to pay the seat deposit? I think they only give 3 weeks to pay it and I don't want to miss the deadline because of delayed mail. :/

Are you OOS? I would give it a couple more days because of the Christmas holiday. There is a form in the letter packet that you need to send in with your deposit, so you'll have to wait until you get it. I'm sure it won't take much longer, but you could always call their office when you've sent in the deposit to let them know it's on its way.

EDIT: Duh, yes you are out of state 😀 I'd definitely give it a couple more days.

Yea, old-fashioned mail is SO slow...especially around the holidays. Hopefully, the packet comes by the end of the week and my deposit makes it there before the 3 week deadline. :xf:

I was really hoping there was an online payment thing. Oh well. I'll just call them when I send out my deposit (since it may take another week/week and a half to get there).

Not to one-up you, but I was accepted 11/24 and STILL haven't received anything in the mail (Canada). I called their office and got them to e-mail me the form that needs to be sent in with the $50 deposit. You need to send the form, the $50 and a brief note indicating your wish to accept their offer of admission. They were very friendly and didn't seem concerned about missing the 3-week deadline. I wouldn't hesitate to call if you're concerned.

Wow, that's a really long wait but at least they were willing to work with you. If I don't receive anything by next Wednesday or so, I'll just call and ask them to email it. I'd prefer email anyway...

I was accepted on Dec. 22 and just received the package today. I live in NC.

Life of a medical student.... Wait for MCAT scores, wait for interview calls, wait for interview decision, wait for school to start, wait for MLE scores, wait for residency interviews, wait for residency match, wait for residency to start, wait for job interviews, wait for job to start (finally some money).
Man all this waiting!
 
So if I'm interviewing tomorrow morning (which I am), I'm gonna have to wait a month to hear about my decision?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that the AdCom meets at the end of the month to decide on all the interviews conducted for that month. So based on that, it wouldn't matter what day of the month you interviewed--all interviewees will have a decision by the end of the month. At least, that's how I remember it was from last year.

Though in your case, it looks like you may have to wait until next month.

I interviewed Dec. 8th and had my decision on Dec. 22. So it would make more sense if they meet in the middle of the month.
So Goldenmug, yes you will have to wait until the next decision date which is about a month from now.

Acceptances go out before 2 pm.
 
I've heard nothing from wayne and I've been complete since early September, am I rejected? lol.

I mean, has anyone who HASN'T interviewed heard anything recently?

Wayne's committee meets once a week to talk about interviews from the previous week (I think it's on Mondays but it could have been Tuesdays, it has been a couple months since I was there). They have seven preset dates where they give out acceptances for that period. I interviewed on one of these dates and I had to wait until the next month to hear my decision, so I'd say you'll have to wait until February.

I was complete by 10/01, got an invite 01/14. I'm set to interview in mid-February!

I was also complete in late Aug/early Sept and haven't heard anything from them either...

I don't know Wayne's policy about rejecting pre-interview, but I've received rejections from a couple schools only recently, and still haven't heard from the majority of the places I did apply though. The world hasn't ended just yet.

LOL! Nice fix. A, I didn't mean to rub it in. Wayne's interview season runs a little longer than those of other schools. Don't lose hope! The length of time you wait between being complete and being invited for interview doesn't necessarily correlate with how good you are of an applicant in their eyes.

I got the same message too. I'm thinking about calling them and asking if they can at least give a general idea of where I stand on the list. I almost wish they would just reject me already....
 
Just got the decision email...on the alternate list.

I'm OOS and interviewed on the 18th.

Congrats to those who got in and best of luck to everyone else.

I've been on the alternate list since November as well...do you think they'll tell us our position on it?
 
lol got an e-mail from Wayne State. I already was expecting an e-mail b/c today is a notification date. I was still thinking "oh man this is an acceptance." lol nope just the "your status has not changed. thank you for your continued interest in our medical school."

lol didn't notice the typo either. Jungle I doubt they would give where we stand on the WL. worth a try if you want though. just have to sit longer.

As of now, the alternate list is a temporary waitlist. You can still be accepted up until May. Around then, WS makes a final WL. Some people will be rejected and some will get a spot on that final WL.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Wayne is accepting a lot more applicants from OOS? Perhaps a decrease in state funding?

Regarding the typo in the admissions letter - I realize that looks pretty bad, but they have a lot on their plates as far as trying to get the class set for next year and I think you should be concerned more about getting that letter than the letter missing a word. At least they're letting you know they reviewed your apps again, I would have killed for that compared to other schools last year when they wouldn't contact you for months upon months! I'm technically still on two waitlists, and I'm already halfway through my first year. They never emailed or anything! 🙂

Anyways - if you guys have any questions regarding Wayne, feel free to shoot them my way! I'm a first year (3 months from 2nd!), love Wayne, never thought I'd love the Detroit area but I do. I was accepted other places but picked Wayne because I knew it'd give me a great medical education.

Good luck guys!!!! Chances are, you're all qualified. Sometimes I think it comes down to luck.... Hang in there, it sucks.:luck:

Thanks for the positive word!

I wanted to ask, at what other places were you accepted, and what stood out for Wayne for you as far as providing a great medical education above the others?

Congrats to those accepted today! To those still waiting, don't lose hope! There are still more decision dates and then May 15th!
 
Accepted today! The wait was forever, but worth it! I wish the same luck for all of you 🙂

However, I'll be giving up my spot so hopefully one of you guys get it 🙂.
