Congratulations on those who got in. If you are sure, you'll be matriculating at Wayne state... Do consider joining facebook group WSSoM class of 2015!

Not trying to be -ve, but if you were sure you didn't want to get into a school, why wouldn't you inform them & save everybody some time & effort?

I am not asking for an explanation or judging you, but unless you have a good reason for holding onto that spot, please think about how that affects others.

For everyone asking if you should call and ask where you stand on the alternate list, you can try, but they won't tell you anything. I'm a fellow alternate lister, and was on the waitlist all of last year too. Wayne, for some reason, refuses to tell you where you are on the waitlist (not even if you are in the top half), and they continue that until August. It sucks just waiting and having no idea if you're the next one off, or at the bottom, but at least you still have a chance! Long story short, try to be patient through all the frustration and waiting. There's still a lot of time :xf:

Obviously that person just said they're giving up their spot; they were probably just using WSU as a back-up school. I think people just have to settle down!

Thanks for giving up your spot and letting us know that it'll be opening up an opportunity for someone else.

I just heard back from my first choice school last week - until then, WSU was a very real possibility.

I was planning on withdrawing from other places as soon as it was confirmed that they received my deposit, etc. I think it's fair to hold on to a spot if I think I might be going there. In any case, the spot should be open early next week, for the next round.

Oh, that is absolutely fair. My comment was not meant to be accusatory. I apologize if it came off that way. 😳

Anyway, congratulations to you. 🙂
:xf: For everyone on the waiting list.

Didn't 🙂. I just wanted to clarify my situation. Hopefully the spot goes to a fellow-SDN'er. I really enjoyed my visit - the school has great opportunities.

Same here. Waitlisted two years in a row. Is it just me or do you sometimes feel like, "if I'm good enough stop waitlisting me, if I'm not good enough stop wasting my time"?

When were you waitlisted last year and this year? I've been waitlisted in September of both.

Sometimes I wonder if being waitlisted early in the season works against you in the end. Maybe the whole ranking system isn't really how they do it, and they just start pulling people off who were interviewed the most recently. As in, you interviewed early, so your file is at the bottom of the waitlisters pile. I guess we will never know. Does anyone know FOR SURE, that they rank your application on the waitlist?

Did anyone who sent an update letter get a confirmation that it was received and added to your file?

Also, does Wayne send interview invites out in batches (ie- at a certain time each month), or have they been trickling out? I wasn't complete here until very late (end of Nov), so I'm not sure whether I should be hopeful for an interview at this point in the cycle. I'll be in Detroit later this month, so it would be awesome to pair that trip up with an interview (if they intend to offer me one).

Now (actually next week) is the time I interviewed a year ago and got in 2 weeks later, so late interviews definitely dont mean anything here. Good luck to you all and congrats to those who are getting in!

I sent a letter of intent in early December and they didn't respond or acknowledge receipt. I'm not sure Wayne really takes those letters seriously but I wrote it because it never hurts.

I definitely feel the same way. It's even more frustrating knowing that you improved your application between the two app cycles, and got the same result! Last year applied late, waitlisted in March. This year waitlisted in October. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens... again! Good luck to you!

I meant waitlisted in October both times. I interviewed in September.

Anyone get an invite to interview lately??

I haven't heard a thing from them since I was marked as complete in November (which I know is really late), but I'm wondering whether I should keep my hopes up at this point in the cycle...

Definitely don't get your hopes down! Last year, I didn't get my interview invite until early March from WSU and I was complete in December. There are still spots and there's still hope

Just withdrew from my interview today. Hopefully you'll get the spot!🙂

pikachu10- Thanks for giving me some hope! It seems like there haven't been many new invites on here lately, but maybe there will be another wave in a week or two...or at the beginning of March 😀

GoldenDestiny- I'm assuming you withdrew from your interview because of an acceptance elsewhere; if this is the case - Congrats!! It would certainly be nice to get that interview spot! 🙂

Not super recent, but I was invited on 1/11 for an interview next week (OOS - I was also complete in November). They are still working!

Thanks for the info Margra - and congrats on the interview!! 👍
Do you mind me asking whether you were complete at the beginning or end of Nov, and whether the invite came via snail mail or email?

I sent a letter of intent in early December and they didn't respond or acknowledge receipt. I'm not sure Wayne really takes those letters seriously but I wrote it because it never hurts.

After I interviewed at WSU last year (waitlisted, then rejected), I asked the lady at the desk in the admissions office how receptive the committee was to update/intent letters. She told me they were unlikely to even look at it.

However, I just interviewed here again on 2/1/2011. After my interview, as the interviewer was walking me out her office door, I handed my update letter to her. As I began to say "this is an update for my file," she interrupted me and said she would make sure the committee saw it.

I think that worked b/c you gave it to them straight up, fast enough to add to your file. Otherwise I have heard as well that they don't accept update/interest letters.

I applied last year (very late December complete) and was waitlisted the whole summer and didn't get a rejection letter until after the school semester had started. I re-applied this year and was complete mid-October and received an interview invite on 1/14 for Feb 21.

Yeah Wayne is still giving out interviews. I see people every week (Wednesdays usually) in the cafeteria. Hang in there. I get upset when people tell me that it is still early in the process, but realistically, if you get to May with no interview, then you know you are screwed, until then, you are still in the running. In the mean time focus on your classes and forget about it. I am still waiting for an acceptance, including at Wayne, and I am also guilty of thinking about getting interviews too much, but I have found that as soon as I forget about it, I get an interview offer. Illusory correlation, I know. This actually is both a good and a bad thing; bad because I start thinking about the process again lol.
One last note. I just want to point out that most people on this forum will probably become a doctor if not this year, then maybe in the next one, so learn to use your judgement and try to discern what you can take as a good advice on SDN and what is just a bad one. A bad advice is usually easy to spot. When an SDNer gives you facts with no sources or any form of ethos, you know its bull crap.
Cheers.

i was put on that alternate list back in Nov. Do update letters or letters of interest help, or is it better to just send those out once you're formally on the waitlist. At BU, an advisor told me they wouldn't really do anything until I was officially on a waitlist.

Pr0xy -uplifting message man/woman. Gluck to every1.

I called today in hopes of getting an idea of where my application was, but it seems that we have to keep playing the waiting game. I was complete in the beginning of Nov and am IS =/

If I remember correctly, I believe they don't accept post-interview updates/interest letters, but I could be wrong.

Thanks! I think it was right around mid-November. I received word that I was invited to an interview via email, but they mail the information (including the date) through snail mail.

What do you mean by "formally on the waitlist"?? Do you mean if you are still on the waitlist after may??

Does anyone know if wayne state generally has a second look weekend?

So have they accepted their maximum amount and are just throwing people on the waitlist at this point?

WSU accepts 1/7 of the class every month for 7 months, where the last batch are accepted at the end of April. That translates to about 40 students a month. The rest of the people who interview are put on an alternate list, which gets ranked. Realistically, people who are ranked lets say 150 - 700 (these numbers are made up to illustrate an example) do not really have a chance of getting in, and so the "final/ formal" wait list in May only includes the top ranked 150 wait listed students.

so whether you interview in October or in early April, you have an equal chance of getting in.

Haha you scared me! I thought you were implying they were 100% through their offers.

Hey everyone,

I'll be pulling my application and acceptance this weekend. Good luck to everyone waiting.

Does Wayne only gives offers up to their expected class size (~290) or do they over-offer to account for normal attrition?

its my understanding that they offer up to their expected class size (or a specific number of students each cycle- 290/7), and as spots open up they pull from the wait list

"Due to the university closure yesterday, we find it necessary to change the offer day to next Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Thank you for your patience."

This is honestly one time when I can officially say I truly hate MI weather...Is this because the committee usually meets the Monday before their offer day?

ah dang guju. UCF needs to give you some more love. What's up w/ BU since you're in their program. I'd assume you'd get an interview?

@ gujuDoc

Hey,

I also got an interview invite from Wayne today. Awesome!

Yeah, they meet every Monday so that's probably why they are postponing it since school was closed yesterday. I love how when "snowpocalypse" came we got like... 6 inches. But apparently over a foot of snow no big deal according to the news, I didn't even hear them mention the storm once lol. What a joke

I love the name people gave the storm..."snowpocalypse" haha

I'm also assuming other interviewees who were waiting to hear about offers tomorrow got the same message as me, correct???

I'm on the alternate list, but usually get a message at each decision day. I didn't receive this e-mail. Anyone on the alternate list get it?

Just got an email for interview invite for March. says a letter is being sent with more details. 😀

Congratulations and good luck Guju! Do you mind sharing when you were complete?
