even if one is married and said spouse is a full time employee in the state?

Doesn't matter. Unless YOU can prove residency in Michigan, you will be paying out-of-state tuition all four years. At Wayne, it's all or nothing.

Rejected pre-secondary today via a letter in the mail. They originally told me I was on hold for my new mcat score, but I decided not to re-take it. I got an 8 PS and I think generally they recommend taking the test again with an 8 in any section. Oh Well. Good luck everyone!

I'm sorry, Belle. Did they give you a reason?

Not that I could remember. I did submit my primary to Wayne State pretty late though (they only received my AMCAS on 8/30) and I'm OOS.

Interview invite! Yayyy 🙂 Scheduled for 10/20.

when did you get the complete email sedaniel (or anyone who received interview invite)? are you oos?

"Secondary Received" e-mail 8/23, Interview invite 9/17. Canadian.

My AMCAS was verified on 08/13 and I still don't know whether or not I will receive a secondary....worrisome?

Congrats on those who got interview invites!

My secondary app was complete Monday 9/20. I'm still in shock that they sent me a secondary with my mcat score of 26M (only mcat score)! I thought I would be rejected instantly. My gpa is around a 3.5. I am an instate applicant though. So what is Wayne State looking to see in an applicant this year?

Congrats on the secondary! Well I don't think this changes from year to year, but they are really looking for applicants who want to stay in the area and want to work within the Detroit community. Which is a very unique and challenging experience, anyone who's worked or shadowed down at DMC will get what I mean (I spent a summer interning down there and am currently in a Masters program). It can be pretty intense 🙂

Congrats on the interviews! I'm a MS1 here so feel free go ask any questions. I like the school and the clinical experiences we get but I'm not a fan of the environment. It's very competitive here and it gets pretty high school sometimes. I'm not sure if every school is like this but people are definitly not helpful or do they even care to help. Some are very immature and walk and talk like they are already experienced doctors when we've been in school for like 3 weeks. So if u have a laid back personality I don't suggest coming here. But if you are a super gunner and like to think u know everything then this is the place for u! I don't even mean that in a negative. It's purely a difference in personality. But then again after anatomy only 30 people will actually go to class so there is little interaction with your classmates n

For those coming from Cali it's very different here. The people are not what used to especially at ucs!

Besides the gunner attitude here everything else is pretty cool so far.

Anyways just wanted to give u guys some inside scoop and hope to see u around in a few weeks!

hi ilvcurst! i don't think we've met at school yet but i'm also an MS1. i just wanted to say that i think you're just hanging around the wrong crowd! my experience has been full of people wanting to help each other succeed. but with a large class, of course you're going to find all kinds of people, and i think you've just happened to come across the variety that we all like to avoid. i've had very little experience with gunner people but i know to look out for them. i assure you, some of us michiganders are pretty laid back 🙂. also, there's sooo many people here from california that i'm sure you can find lots of people to relate to. i'd just say to avoid those gunner people and stay positive.. continue to look out and meet people and i'm sure you'll find some really cool folk.
i do admit though that almost everyone i meet/know at wayne is just constantly talking about school all the time.. i get sick of it and since i also did undergrad at wayne i like to go off to main campus to study and see non med-students to get away from the med school blues. it irks me a little but i try to just understand that the workload takes a toll on people's personalities. anyway if you'd like to chill sometime/study with someone super laid back i'd be happy to meet you (if i havent already..). detroit is full of amazing, interesting and diverse kinds of people and im sorry you ahven't felt that yet. in fact i'm sure most of those close-minded people you met aren't originally from detroit (other parts of michigan are pretty close-minded but metropolitan detroit really isnt). anyway hit me up if you want to meet better people..

whats the best way to get to campus from the DTW airport? I want a cheaper alternative than cab hopefully

Interview Invite!!! Complete Aug 24. Invited Sept 24. Interview on Nov 1. I asked for an update on Friday and received an answer saying that there was no change in my status. 3 hours later, I got the invite via email.

MI has almost a nonexistent public/mass transit system. Besides if you are new to the area, u really dont want to mistakenly get down at the wrong stop in detroit. Detroit is very cool, but can be deadly for the novice (not exaggerating. you are walking into the crime capital of the world). Take a cab.

They advertise this service on their website that's apparently cheaper than a cab but not like public transportation.

do they send interview invites on a sequential basis? I was complete August 26th and still haven't heard anything...

anyone have any insight?

Hey guys!
i just got verified today!

Wayne is my top choice school, and im a bit confused on what to do...I have no letters of recommendation on the amcas file, but I have them at wayne state office (i go there for undergrad)...
Do I just have to wait now to see if wayne will send me a secondary?
if so do they let you know that they received your application or anything?
Thanks!!
i'm pretty sure you need to do it through amcas (or at least tell the advising center to mail them to the school.. but for multiple schools you wanna make sure to go through AMCAS LOR system because thats what everyone accepts). so: print out the letter request form (the one that you print to tell people to send the letter to AMCAS) from ur AMCAS and fill out your LOR writers' informations. then give the letter request form to the advising center which will tell them to mail your letters to AMCAS. when AMCAS receives your letters, you designate wayne state and all the other schools that will receive your letters. thats the easiest way to do it.

also you are gonna provide the advising office with postage to mail the letters to the AMCAS. trust me on it you have to send to AMCAS for every school, but if wayne is the only school ur applying to (probably not the case) then just make sure they take the LORs from the undergrad office.

also you don't need LORs to receive a secondary (thats just based on mcat/grades). but you need LORs with your secondary to be complete at the school. good luck!

For those who have already interviewed, how long was your it and how many people were in the room? I'll be interviewing next month.

can you guys write the date your application was completed when you invited for interview ?

Thanks😀

I had interview last year, and got wait listed, we were 5 student in waiting room, and they tell you who is your interviewer, most people spend 1 hour in interview, just be confident and speak about your self and what you did, the more you talk about what you did the better, show confidence and dont bring any negative aspect of your application, again be confident, even if you dont have ideal numbers like GPA etc dont lose confidence, in waiting room there are always some people with GPA 4 and 45 MCAT who can not stop talking about how good their application is so just ignore them, I made mistake and start doubting myself ,

good luckkkkkk😳

Hey Guys,
Am a bit confused about a question in the secondary.......I applied to medical schools last year but not to Wayne State. SHould I answer this question or leave it blank?

Question III (only reapplicants must answer this question)
What academic, employment, volunteer experiences have you been engaged in since your last application to medical school? How does your current application differ from your previous application?

Reapplicant to Wayne only. You should leave it blank. Thanks for the congrats.

call the office 🙂

hey, im starting to get a little worried, my amcas application was verified on the 27th, and I still have not received a single email from wayne... I read earlier in this thread that wayne sends out an email letting applicants know that their application has been received and is being reviewed for a secondary, but I received no such thing...

Didn't even get a secondary. OOS, less than 30 MCAT. Not shocked at all.

I was complete on August 26 and I have not recieved and interview decision. Is this typical? I don't know if I should call the office and inquire, because I don't want to seem to "pushy."

I was also complete august 26th...

I feel like everyone who has gotten an interview so far was complete on or before August 24th, so there might be some hope for us!

Most likely however, we're rejected...lol

3.5 cGPA, 29Q Mcat OOS and interviewing tomorrow, but my friend with at 3.7 and a 31 MCAT didn't even get a secondary from wayne. Just shows that MCAT and GPA aren't everything!!

Anyway, anyone else interviewing tomorrow (10/6)??? I'm driving up to detroit tonight...so nervous!

I wouldn't be too nervous...just stick to well lit areas, try to travel in groups, and carry your pepper spray. 😉

Puh-lease! The city the least of my worries...I'm from CLEVELAND

Hey guys! I interviewed on the 20th of Sept. and, although they say the decision will be released on the 20th of Oct. do you think they'd mind if I called and inquired? Has anyone done this and gotten something, it's so hard to wait...:scared:

They aren't allowed to give any decisions until after the 15th. All AMCAS schools are the same in that respect. Hope this helps!

Interviewed here this week - that was a good place! I could totally see myself here. I'm OOS so I don't know my chances, but hoping for good news on October 20th.

Man, the wait is killing me. I'm really tempted to call the admissions office and ask my status. Is that a bad idea?

Haha, well I would highly doubt it would have an effect on your decision, since it is made already (I think the lady said it's made within a few days of your interview). So it wouldn't hurt, though I'm not sure if you'd have any luck in getting an answer.

If you do call, let us know.

That's exactly what I thought too! Haha I tried to call and act sly with the receptionist hoping she would volunteer information by asking if my file had been reviewed yet, but it didn't work. I have 3 tests next week and all I can think about is this admission decision.

Does anyone else who's interviewed think the hardest part of this whole process is waiting for October 20th???

So.. you guys should have applied EDP!. Sitting on my couch drinking beer, knowing I am in 11 days back Muuaahhhhaaaaa

Anyone know what % of OOS interviewees are offered acceptance? Waiting until October 20th is brutal! I WANT THIS ACCEPTANCE!
