Everyone else get their CaTS password? What about the med school password... I'm guessing that comes later.

CaTS password? Is that what we got in the mail when we were told our email address/user ID/etc?

Wow, it's been quiet from Wright State recently. I haven't gotten any updates since the financial aid email about a month ago. For those who are accepted, any other news from the school?

They did give a face lift to their website if that counts. Haha. It is actually looks pretty nice.

For those who are concerned, it looks like the BPLDP (MD/MPH & MD/MBA) programs are going to be a little different for the class entering this fall then the years before. Since all the departments at WSU (including the MPH and MBA programs) besides BSOM are switching over to semesters they have to rework the MD/MPH & MD/MBA curriculum. Right now I think it is a little unclear what that means exactly which is a little disheartening.

As a side note I think this thread could use a little livening up. Haha. Cincinnati will have a higher post count if we're not careful. 🙂

Yes, that one. For email and wings/wings exprss.

Yes, that's the only one I have. What do you mean one for the med school? Have you been trying to click on specific course information and getting denied? I think you just have to wait til we're actually students...

The website does look nice!! And yea, come on people, we can't let Cincinnati beat us out - they put me on the middle third of their waitlist (how lame). Good thing I'm withdrawing because I like WSU better anyway 👍

I guess so. I was told or emember hearing somewhere that there was a university password and med school password. I didn't know it was for the course material though. I thought it was for tests.

Website redesign looks good and I think the search is better. At least the 2015 class page comes up first when you type in 2015.

Just as I was typing my last post, I got an email from the financial aid dept with the word "scholarship" in the subject. It was just an informational/ad about the NHSC. Well it's ncie to know they didn't forget about us. 😎

Hm, can't remember. It's been a loooong time since my interview, and they haven't been in touch much since. You're probably right though. But, then, if it's for tests you don't need it for a while yet 😉

Haha. Good point.

Anyway, how far in advance should I be looking for an apartment? Say, within 15 minutes driving to school. Maybe 20 if it's in a good location.

Are you in the Facebook group? They have suggestions for apartment complexes in there. I already put a deposit down on one that's about 10 mins from school (maybe 15 in traffic). I've lived in southwest Ohio (Cincy and Dayton) my whole life so I can help ya out if you need suggestions. I would say definitely put a deposit down sooner rather than later - the few places I visited/toured said they always filled up quickly in the late spring / early summer.

Search "Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Class of 2015" to find the group if you wanna join.

The Facebook page is pretty dead. I have a buddy going to a different school and he said his 2015 page is blowing up. I am a little disappointed. Then again I just joined to scope out some peeps in our class. So I guess it's not really that bad.

EDIT: I mean "scope out" in a general sense not in like a weird way. Haha.

Ugh... Facebook. Do I HAVE to sign up???? Haha. Let me go make an account real quick.

I think I remember a post either in this thread or last year's thread about apt complexes.

Suuure you do. 😉 Actually, most of the people posting seem to be current first years, so you're totally right about it being pretty dead...

Srsly? I'm not on that much, but I definitely have an account. PM me if you have questions about apartments though. I can easily give you names of 3-4 complexes worth looking at.

I'm a very private person and don't like to be tracked down. Anyway, sent you a PM. Thanks!!!

I was a little bummed to find out about that news as well as I had hoped to pursue the MD/MPH but who knows... it could be even better after the changes! Are you interested in one of the programs?

Yea. I was thinking about the MD/MPH as well. I am a little hesitant about doing it now. I don't like the current uncertainty about the curriculum. Espcially considering that it means another year of school and tuition. But well have to see. Maybe in the fall when they give us more info about it I'll change my mind.

Why is there an orientation after the first day of class?

https://www.medu.wright.edu/M1Academic-calendar/2012

Good question. As far as I know, it's been that way for a while - I think it may have to do with the ropes course we do that Friday (at least I think it's that day) - they wanna get one day of class in that week and that's the only day that works? Who knows. I know a lot of current students, though, so I'd be happy to ask around. 👍

Yeah I am a little nervous as well but the good news is if you decide not to do the Wright State program there are other fellowships and schools that you can use to complete the MPH. I did however, like the idea of the year long clinical experience during the graduate work so maybe that will pan out.

Yeah, that'll be your climbing wall, team-building day. I think you just go play in the woods and have a picnic all day. It's fun.

The first two orientation days are all the paperwork, explaining how classes work, meet and greet, join some clubs day (i think) and other various activities at the school.

sounds creepy. I'm in. 😀

... and still no financial aid information.

kind of sucks for those trying to make a decision on schools by tomorrow - financial aid is always a good thing to compare when making a choice between 2+ schools. strangely glad I'm not in that boat, though multiple acceptances would be a lovely ego boost 😎

Hahaha. Are you reading this Michelle?

From an email a few mins ago:
Subject: BSOM: Financial Aid Award Notices will go out this week!

If you're reading this, thanks!

Man. Financial aid e-mails just seems to come out whenever you post. Haha.

Hey, as a side note what do you guys think about this:

The 2011-2012 MSAR lists 89/443 interviews for OOS kids and 9 matriculants. The 2012-2013 MSAR says 135/464 OOS interviews and 24 matriculants. That means that their newest class has 24/101 OOS (~24%). Both versions say "Non-residents of Ohio are encouraged to apply" though, but maybe that was a policy change that took a while to reflect in the stats? I don't have any earlier MSARs so I don't know
Someone posted that a couple of weeks ago talking about Wright State. I wondered how true that really is. Wright State is pretty notorious for being very in-state friendly. Like the quoted post said the 2011-2012 MSAR has 9 OOS matriculants. I have an even older version of the MSAR and it has 8 OOS matriculants. It just seems odd that a school could go from having single digit OOS matriculants each year for several years to 24. What do you guys think?

I should post more then. 🙂

When I interviewed, they specifically said that they don't give any preference to IS vs OOS applicants past the interview process. WSU seems to attract a lot of Ohio kids, which makes it seem like it's not very OOS friendly when you look at the stats.

I'm guessing the hike in OOS matriculants is more of a symptom of the increasing competition to med school (more applicants with higher stats) than a surge in increase by OOSers to Wright State or a sudden decision by WSU adcoms to admit more OOS students.

 This is fantastic. Maybe she saw our comments of exasperation - I just want to know how much debt I'll have after year 1 so I can look forward to it...

It is true that the current M1 class has a way higher percentage of OOS students - current M2s and M1s that I know have commented on it. I hope it's a reflection of the times and a good vote of confidence for the school. I think it's definitely lesser know by OOSers right now, but maybe this surge represents the school getting more national attention. That's always a good thing! 👍

In other news, M2s just took their term final today. Commence Step 1 studying! Let's wish them all luck :luck:

Yeah, the 24 OOS is about right. This year has been an anomaly for the number of OOS students. And what about us 1st years? We just got raped by our POD exam today...

just wanted to check to see how the waitlisters are doing????

good luck all of you!!!!

Stressed, nervous, and trying to remain hopeful 😛

I called in to the office a few weeks ago to get an idea of where I was on the waitlist. It sounded like bottom half 🙁🙁

I didn't mean to leave you out!!! I hope it went okay for you, smash! 👍

Only a couple more weeks til summer for you! Are you doing an elective those first couple weeks of summer?

withdrew my acceptance yesterday. Good luck to those on the waitlist... it was a tough decision not going to this school!

well, from what i heard, they may or may not be going by the rank on the list when making offers...which is why we weren't told of our rank....so there's still hope !!

Hrm. I'm excited to see how many OOS students are going to make up the class of 2015. I guess then we'll know if last year was just a fluke. ~25% of OOS students is pretty significant.

Well here is to hopefully hearing some financial aid news soon. Isoprop you should make a post tomorrow.

Sure thing, but I don't think we'll get an email after 7 pm. C'mon Wright State... where's our money? 😀

hey! for those who applied and who still have the complete prompt/character count written down, would you mind PMing me? i would really appreciate it.

thanks. 🙂

If you are referring to the secondary... there was no essay if I remember correctly

You do remember correctly! 👍 no essay = fast secondary. I think it took me 10-15 mins to fill in all my courses and that was it!

Award notices are posted.

OUUUCH - so. many. loans. 😱 (I'm not really that surprised, I knew it was coming, but still - seeing the numbers on the screen is a bit shocking)

+1 :scared:

I just cleared the WL here. I am giving up my spot though. Wright State probably had the friendliest staff/students out of all the schools I visited. Good luck to all of you heading to Dayton!

Only a couple more weeks til summer for you! Are you doing an elective those first couple weeks of summer?

No time for electives this summer. I'm flying out to Nicaragua at 630am the day after our final for service learning stuff for the first 2 weeks of june, marriage/honeymoon the last week of june, and Air Force training all of july. :scared: it's gonna be a busy summer!

Glad to see people are hearing on the waitlist! Hopefully all of you still holding out hope will get that call! Remember, it's not over til classes start!

Congrats!

Are you doing the HPSP thing? Did you just pay out of pocket for first year and then do scholarship for years 2-4? Or is this training separate from the training you have to do at the beginning of the program? Sorry, 20 questions. Just curious about the program 😎

Thanks guys! It is about a month out from now. And yeah Glass, took out loans for first year and accepted a 3 year scholarship. One of the downfalls of being accepted late last year...

I am curious because this board is so quiet: has there been much waitlist movement so far, or any inclination of many/few seats are needed to be filled this year? Hoping and praying to somehow make it off the waitlist
