Just accepted this morning!!! First acceptance off the waitlist - ecstatic.......!!!!!

So, were you guys getting accepted still sitting in the UC list?

I wasn't. Was accepted a week from my interview in March. Also, in case there was any doubt, I only had one interview instead of two.

Hey everyone, wondering if any of you have had the same issue. Tried to log in to see my acceptance packet again, but the page is blank...

I will be withdrawing my acceptance.. very bittersweet, as I really love this school. Best of luck to those on the UC list!

well, i havent been accepted, but the site is blank for me as well
if i was to make a conjecture, i would say it is because they're doing something to the site for the compiling of the waitlist v. rejected people

I was recently accepted to my state school and have decided to attend. I withdrew my AMC acceptance today. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Accepted this morning from UC list, interviewed in October. Withdrew acceptance, good luck for those of you waiting to hear!

I was accepted off the UC list this morning and have withdrawn to attend school closer to family. Hope this goes to one of you still waiting! Good luck everyone!

anyone heard from them about the alternate list? still waiting... :xf::luck:

Accepted yesterday off the waitlist, first acceptance!! :soexcited:

There's still hope, you guys. Hang in there 🙂.

Withdrawing today as soon as I can reach the admissions office (I keep getting the answering machine and didn't want to leave my withdrawl there)

Hope one of you gets the spot!

Accepted today off the UC list; I'll be withdrawing my acceptance as well. Good luck everyone!

I somehow recall the $100 deposit check being refundable. I withdrew on May 5th and still haven't gotten it refunded. Has anyone else been refunded (if it is possible to do so)?

Has anyone heard anything about the alternate list/waitlist? AMC usually builds it up in early June, right?

I heard they were going to come out with an alternate/waitlist hopefully by the end of this week or early next week.

Heyyyy, neurotic pre-meds. I just got that lovely "OHAI WANNA BE ON THE WAITLIST FILL OUT MORE PAPERWORK I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE PAPERWORK" e-mail that everyone's been waiting for. So they've probably already made some cuts.

Yah I got the alternate list email too. They said their class is full at this point

I am on the alternate list now as well. I wonder how many of us there are.

Oh yeah, they made cuts. I got rejected on Wednesday. Luckily, I got into my top choice (and only remaining option) Thursday :-D

congrats on your acceptance! 😀 Any movements on the waitlist recently? There seem to be many alternates but very little movement🙁.:xf::xf::xf:

Got an acceptance this morning, my first acceptance after five years of applying to medical school. 1 acceptance, 51 rejections total.

Pretty much in complete shock.

Accepted today off of the alternate list. Will be passing this one on to someone who really needs it though. I got into my top choice

Allow me to be the first in SDN Land to say:

CONGRATU-FREAKIN-LATIONS!!@*(

I reapplied only once and could not possibly fathom doing it again. Make the most of it, and be an awesome and badass doctor!

Congratulations!!! I've been watching this site like crazy because I'm an Alternate, but it's great to see a spot going to such a dedicated student! I'm on application cycle three, so I feel your pain. Good for you for never giving up! That's going to be a trait that will take you far in medical school!! Congratulations again!!!

Are any AMC students checking this anymore? I'm sooo anxious to find a place to live, any suggestions!?!?

I am in the same boat. I got accepted Wednesday and I am very excited. I did find the start dates online under the faq section:
For admission in 2012, orientation and registration (both mandatory) will be August 6 & August 7. Thursday, August 9 is the first day of classes.

I was wondering if anyone found a schedule for the year. If you did, could you please post the link on here? Thanks!

^^^
From what I've been told, the curriculum/class schedule is pretty fluid. A buddy of mine who's gonna be an M2 this year, said that it varied so often that he hesitated to give me his class schedule as it most likely wasn't going to be the same. But hell, if anyone finds one, toss it on up, it'd be nice to know how things are going to go so I can maybe try to stay on per diem at work.

Orientation was 3 days last year... the first two days were full days of lectures and the third day was a field day at a local park with all-day team building exercises and such. So even though the FAQ only cites Monday and Tuesday for orientation, don't think that you will necessarily have Wednesday off!

Your white coat ceremony will be part of orientation. If things are the same as previous years, it will NOT be a family/friends type of event. I'm pretty sure it's going to be Tuesday afternoon.

Ditto the facebook comment. That's how a lot of us found roommates last year.
Student Services also has a list of upperclassmen looking for roommates and local landlords looking to rent. Once you get access to your amc email, you will probably find that the upperclassmen have already been spamming you about selling furniture/books/rooms for the last month or two. Craigslist is a good source if you have time to filter postings, and there are plenty of signs on lawns if you have time to go in person and take a look around.

There's an orientation coordinator in Student Services (one of my classmates) who should be around this summer to answer your questions and who should be forwarding information to you as it is finalized. Don't be afraid to give them a call as they're there to help! I'm not sure why she hasn't added you to the facebook group yet, but maybe she's waiting on some information from you, or is busy planning your orientation activities with various administrators, etc. In a couple of months things will be moving so quickly and you'll have so many commitments and school obligations that you'll be thankful for the free time you had this summer, so take advantage of it!

If you can manage a job and med school, more power to you! But most people don't, or they do something flexible like research at school, or work that involves short shifts and a low time commitment. The class schedule can change at the last minute and there really isn't any regular protected time except weekends. You are supposed to have at least one afternoon off a week, but which day of the week this is varies, and sometimes it doesn't actually happen. I would imagine you'd be spending this "free time" (a better term might just be "unscheduled time") studying or attending to personal care (eating, sleeping, hygiene).

If you're really curious about the class schedule, the official schedule will be on sakai once you guys get access to that. It's one of those online classroom management systems like Blackboard where they post class info, assignments, announcements, etc. There is a lot more information on sakai, like descriptions, lecturers, notes, etc. on each session and theme syllabi and detailed schedules. But for a sneak peak you could try looking at the google calendar for [email protected] starting from August last year.

Only some of the classes are mandatory.... but figuring out which ones are and aren't might be difficult at first until you understand the system and what's going on. And then there's your personal preference regarding whether you want to attend classes or watch from home on your own time. You can always miss class and get other things done during the daytime hours, but you'll have to spend time learning the material later of course.

The mandatory classes are CSK, HCS, and EBHC and then a few other random things that are probably marked "mandatory". However, some of these sessions are for the entire class (all 140 or so of you) and then some sessions are broken down into smaller groups. Sometimes it's half and half, sometimes the class is split into thirds, or fourths, or tenths... so it'll be hard to understand that until you get your official section assignments from Dr. Keller.

Each theme will be different in terms of time committment. For example, the first theme, MCBG (cell bio) had a lot of classes late into the afternoon. The next theme, MUS, will be very dissection heavy, so classes will mostly just be in the morning from 9 to noon, but there will be one afternoon a week where you will be in lab all afternoon (e.g. 1pm - 5 or 6 pm), and two afternoons you will have "off" although you'll be responsible for the information form the anatomy lab lecture and dissection that you are not attending live.

Wait-- Parents cannot come watch the white coat ceremony??

Wait-- Parents cannot come watch the white coat ceremony??

Unfortunately, no. Parents will still have a online webcast which they can watch live.

Officially: The White Coat Ceremony is meant to focus on white coats as a symbol of our responsibility to our profession and our colleagues, rather than as a celebratory gesture. Hence, 2nd years will present the white coats to the 1st years as a symbol of "passing on the torch."

Unofficially: Our auditorium doesn't have enough space to hold parents along with the 2nd years, faculty, and other peoples.

You're pretty much the sole reason I decided to make my first post after a year of having an account, however I was on my phone and forgot my password then proceeded to sign on and lost track of why I actually was signing on. Regardless, congrats man, that's amazing. Shows phenomenal perseverance and for the sake of sounding too cheesy, that's exactly the type of long-road that shapes someone into truly appreciating their job. Congrats again.

Parents don't come to White Coat! That stinks. It is a time to celebrate with family over a tough and stressful year, that policy needs to be looked at again.

Hi, does anyone know what to do about financial aid if you are on the alternate list and still waiting? I filled out my fafsa and it asks me to send my proof of citizenship to prospective schools, but i am still waiting...what to do...😕

I think your best bet would be just to call and ask the Financial Aid Office and tell them exactly what ya typed here. I could of course be wrong, but that's what I would do. No harm no foul.

Yah I agree. Every other med school in the country invites family to be a part of this monumental event and achievement. I strongly disagree that your family's presence takes anything away from the seriousness or "sanctity" of the event. If anything, it should intensify the pressure on you to uphold and adhere to the ethics of the profession, having taken the oath in front of those you love.

Has anyone had any luck at all with calling the admissions office? It seems no matter when I call I can never reach a person on the other line.
