Leaving for the holidays in 30 minutes, my dad went to go check the mail at the post office. He ran after the post man and came home with a big envelope!

First acceptance!!!!!!!!!!

Boo. I was rooting for you. Let's hope there's a lot of waitlist movement this spring!

Thanks. Looks like I'm going to be putting all my hope on that WL movement! Anyone have any idea how the waitlist is structured and how much movement there is?

Omg, loves the bsg...

Sorry for your bad news. I just got a "final decision" status, so either good news or bad for me. We'll see.

glad there are bsg fans on this ducom thread. Hopefully you get in! And hopefully this WL moves!

Congrats!!! My first acceptance was here as well. Perhaps I'll see you there.

To folks who have or will be interviewed, can I get some suggestions for housing the night before the interview? Did anyone stay with the student host? What are the hotels close to campus? I'll be traveling from out of state, and would like to know if I should rent a car or do public transportation. Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all in the process. :xf:

same question here. 🙂

When are you interviewing? I'll be there January 9th.

ugh. "a decision has been made". looks like i'm waitlisted.
interviewed 10/11. they really made me wait just to hear that I'm waitlisted. Frak.

Also got the waitlist status 🙁 I really love this school and was hoping for some good news before the holidays... anyone know about waitlist movement here? Thanks!

Any one else try to join the facebook group Fizzjazz made previously? I requested to join a while ago..

I was randomly checking my status on monday when I saw the pre-interview hold ., so not sure how long it was there.

Interviewed 10/17. Still with a member of the committee. Will this change to With a member of the committee or does it go straight to the final decision/decision?

It will change to with admissions committee or something like that before the final decision/decision notice. I was there with you on 10/17 and it just depends on when your main interviewer gets their evaluation in. Be patient and if you have any significant updates, I believe Drexel accepts them.

That's weird because I interviewed on 10/26 and heard two weeks ago. I wonder how they choose who to review each week.

As jojo said above, it's probably when my interviewer submitted her stuff on me. I also just sent in grades from my first semester of grad school. Hopefully they were waiting to tke that under consideration. I'm scared haha

Can anyone comment on how convenient it is to live in center city (either the
Metropolitan or the Packard Motor Car Building) and taking the shuttle to campus for the first two years to queen lane?

Also can we request to do our last two years at Hahnemann Hospital or is it pure lottery?

I also heard there was a 24 hours study lounge at the hospital which students can access, which then brings up the question of "is it safe to walk around in the area at night?"

Thanks in advance!

You can live in center city for the first two years. Many people do it. If you're in IFM you won't even have to go to Queen Lane that often, but when you do you're looking at a 20-25 minute shuttle ride each way.

It's a lottery system in terms of getting clerkships for third and fourth year. After the lottery goes off you can trade clerkships/times/locations with other people or just jump into openings. Once you start rotating you'll quickly see, that the farther you are from Hahnemann that happier you generally will be. HUH offers many of the nastier clerkship experiences. As long as you're ok with having the schedule in any order you shouldn't have a problem staying in one area, though.

Hahnemann isn't in the worst area, per se, but I'm not sure I would be walking around alone in the middle of the night.

Thanks!

By nasty clerkships do you mean the environment is malignant? Or that the preceptors are overly critical making it difficult to get letters for match?

Also how many away rotations at prospective match locations can you have?

Yeah it's kind of hard to pinpoint exactly what made me miserable . The attendings (usually) were super nice at Hahnemann and you'll have no problem getting letters (something you shouldn't be worrying about at this point!). The rotations there typically were more time demanding and intense (some sites didn't enforce call, but HUH usually did). Also the combination of the patient population/nursing staff (who many hate medical students) just didn't add up to the most pleasureable experiences there.

During the fourth year you're allowed to do 12 weeks of away electives, which seemed to be be the norm for most medical schools. I think there's a limit of 12 weeks in any one specialty, too, so you can't do EM home and then three EM away rotations. I got around this by doing a research rotation in my field of interest as one of my three aways.

Has anyone that interviewed in December have the status that says you're with the admissions committee? Still stuck at the "with a member" one.

same question here. 🙂

January 6. So far, the student host program is leaving me a really bad taste in the mouth about the student body here. Hopefully, my actual interview experience will be better.

what happened?

I just talked to my student interviewer and he said he interviewed in early November and found out about his acceptance in early February 😱 I guess that shows long wait times does not equal waitlist/rejection!

I interviewed Dec 8 and it finally switched either this morning or yesterday.

Mine switched to "final decision" around Dec. 23, and I'm still waiting for a letter in the snail mail! C'mon dude.

Just so you know, I got the final decision status on 11/18 and waited 3 weeks without getting anything in the mail. I called and they told me my letter was sent the week before. I waited another week and a half without getting anything so I called again and talked to a different person. They had apparently sent my letter on 11/21, but I never got it. They wouldn't tell me my decision over the phone and had to resend all of my stuff. Luckily the wait was worth it and I was accepted

anybody interview on 11/17 and get a decision?

I'm an idiot. Above I wrote I interviewed on 10/17 but it was actually 11/17. Apparently I don't know my months. Makes me feel much better now that I know the people that responded to me above were responding thinking I interviewed in October.

I interviewed with you on Nov. 17th. Still with a member of the committee.

cool my status just says if you've already appeared for the interview it will now be progressing through the committee

Oh, mine says I'm with a member of the committee and will soon be sent to committee. I think mine changed from yours a few days after our interview.

Got my letter today - accepted! Sweet. I thought this school was great, and I really do like/miss Philly, but there's a pretty high chance I'll have to pass, barring awesome financial aid - this is a really expensive school!

You got an interview after being placed on hold?! Congrats man!! I didn't know they were reviewing hold applicants

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I didn't receive an e-mail notifying me of a hold...When I checked the status page, however, my status changed from "file will be reviewed" to "file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season" (or something like that... my computer crashed and I don't have my meticulous notes on status changes in front of me ^^)

Hey guys!
I have an interview tomorrow, but I never got an invitation letter in the mail. I know I'm supposed to arrive at the College of Medicine by 8:30, but what room is it in? Do I show up at the Office of Admissions, or is it someplace else? Thanks!

That's the message for being on hold...the re-review of an application was essentially a hold from what I thought

congrats man (or a woman 🙂), i am put on hold too. hopefully i can get that invite 🙂

I'm female, but I'm also from California where everyone is "dude"...so no biggie, lol.

All right then! Keep the hope, re-reviewers!

My status just changed to "under review by the admissions committee..." I interviewed 11/14

Hey ladies and gents,

I a med student here @ drexel and had been in your shoes a couple of years ago. Dont know if this has been previously discussed on this thread but when I was applying to the university, the overriding belief on drexel online status was that:

a final decision has been made = either acceptance or rejection

a decision has been made = waitlisting

Hope those who have been previously accepted or waitlisted to confirm if this is still the case. Good luck y'all!!

Lastly, be patient! The adcom works very hard to thoroughly review each applicant and needless to say, it takes time to get to your application as fast as you might want!!!

Hey does anyone know where they want update letters sent after you get waitlisted?

"A decision has been reached." Interviewed 11/11/11. Not too stoked that I had to wait 2 months to be waitlisted, but at least I'm still in the hunt. I really wana go here!
