"In the Area" email sent Oct 27. Interview Invite Nov 1! 😀 I've also received an II at another school after sending an "In the Area" email- so try it!

On another note- can anyone speak to the differences between GU and GWU? They both seem really focused on service and early patient experiences...I'm having trouble discerning meaningful differences!

out of curiosity, what did your "in the area" email say? I'm thinking of writing one to another school and was wondering what others have said.

I basically just said that I was still interested in the school, and I would be in the area for another interview on XX day, (I think it's tacky to say where you are interviewing, but it's important to mention the day so they don't schedule you for that day), and since I had to fly from Seattle, couldn't keep asking for time of from work, etc, that I would greatly appreciate if they would consider me for an interview during that time period.

Hello Georgetown students!

I have an interview scheduled for December 12th, but the student hosting program has got back to me and said that no one is officially hosting between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of elevated stress.

But, I would really love to stay with a student. Would any of the current students be willing to "unofficially" host me for the nights of 11-12? I would be very low maintenance, and would not want any rides anywhere. I would just sleep at the place and get out of your hair during the days.

Please PM me if you can host or know someone who can. That would be great.

I can't speak about specific differences between the two institutions since I have only interviewed at Georgetown, but I would say in general Georgetown has a better reputation in research. I am not sure what George Washington offers in comparison. I think George Washington built a few new study spaces recently. Of course, this was because they were put on probation for not offering enough study space. I guess that is a positive and a negative for the school. New study space, but perhaps less study space. Georgetown emphasizes "cura personalis" as their philosophy, which probably differs from George Washington in some aspects. Some people think the facilities are pretty old at GU. I thought they were fine, and I do not know how they compare at GW. Both are located in an awesome area. Some people do not like the conservative side of Georgetown. The Catholic policies bleed into the curriculum a bit. They do not offer free condoms, and you will not see an abortion in a GU hospital, though they will arrange for you to in a rotation if you wish.

Overall, I get the feeling that GU has a better reputation, but it has a conservative twist that turns some off, and I get the feeling the GW is a solid medical school, but I can't say much else about it.

I suggest you check GW's interview feedback, that should give you a really good sense of what it represents, and what interviewees have thought about it in the past.

Fly to National and you can take either the Metro or a relatively short (depending on traffic) cab ride. Dulles is way out from DC and BWI is Baltimore.

Yes, "Reagan" National (DCA) is the closest by far. But if you find flights that are much cheaper to either of the other two airports (usually BWI is the cheapest airport in the area) and time is not an obstacle, there are ways to use public transportation to cheaply get to DC.

Alternatively, does anyone know of any Marriott hotels on a subway line?

Nothing in the downtown area (too expensive), but something on the periphery.

I am considering a couple of different Marriotts but don't know which ones are the most convenient/in the safest areas:

Courtyard Silver Spring Downtown
8506 Fenton Street, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Courtyard Springfield
6710 Commerce Street, Springfield, VA 22150

SpringHill Suites Alexandria Tech Center
2950 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22314

Courtyard Alexandria Pentagon South
4641 Kenmore Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304

(Ideally I would prefer a student host, but I am looking at hotels as a last resort 🙁 )

All of those places are really far away from the school. It will be really hard to get you to the school in the morning because of lovely DC traffic.

I don't know if you absolutely must stay at a marriott, but my recommendation for you is to try to get a room at the Holiday Inn in Georgetown. They have a free shuttle to the school, or you can walk the mile or so. That's where I stayed on my interview day, and its fairly cheap compared to the rest of the city. Unfortunately you are coming to interview at a super busy time for everyone. The M2s have exams coming up then, so we are all booked up solid.
Hopefully that helps!

These two have a Metro station located within a mile that you could take to Rosslyn or Dupont Circle, then catch a GUTS bus to Georgetown. The hotel in Silver Spring looks like it is a shorter walk. Metro does get crowded during rush hour, however, and you would need to get up earlier (~75 minutes) than if you stayed in the Georgetown area as the other poster suggested.

Is Arlington too expensive? That would be closer to the airport and Georgetown.

Just submitted secondary. Hope I'm not too late to be seriously considered. After three rejections and 1 interview (IS, all applicants get II), I'm ready for some headway here.

So is there a shuttle from Dupont Circle too? I only knew about the one from Rosslyn.

Is the shuttle free? How long would it take to get from Dupont Circle to the medical school by shuttle?

Arlington is kind of pricey, yeah.

Ok, I found the shuttle. 😛

Does taking the 8:05 shuttle from Dupont seem reasonable for an 8:30 interview day start time?

Hey,

I know its rather late, but I just submitted my secondary a couple of days ago. I was wondering when Georgetown interviews until? Is there still hope, or should I just forget about it? Thanks!

That's awfully nice of the admissions staff to do.

Do you guys know when Georgetown does it's second look day for accepted applicants?

I've been completed since late August. This waiting is killing me. GU is my top choice. Is not hearing from them for this long a good or bad sign?

Last year, the official day was in April sometime. They had two as I recall. But I missed that, and you could always do your own second-look day where they will pair you up with a student and let you spend the day with them. I enjoyed doing that.

There is a Marriott right next to the Rosslyn Station. Next to the Key Bridge. This is your best bet. The Guts Bus actually makes a stop here. You'll be on campus in 5 minutes.

Dreaded rejection today. Submitted Aug 29th. I really wanted to go here.

Is anyone else on here interviewing next Wednesday the 16th?

For those who have already interviewed: is it just stats-blind or completely blind? Conversational or do they have a strict interview format? Sorry if these are repeat questions.

Thanks!

It's just stats-blind, they have all of your extracurriculars. Also, extremely conversational. This will be one of your most laid-back interviews.

Hi everyone,

I am still waiting to hear back from the student host program and my interview is on this upcoming Wednesday so I'm getting a teensy bit nervous.

So I am just wondering if any current students on this thread would be interested in unofficially hosting me? I'm very easy going and the only time I would be imposing would be Tuesday evening from around 4-5 PM until the next morning before the interview. I am able to leave directly after the interview to Dulles since my flight leaves at 9PM. If this is possible I will be SO grateful.

Please private message me if you would be willing to let me crash Tuesday night. Thank you!

Randomly checked secondary page to find my expected waitlist. This makes the second time my random checking has led to a waitlist :/

I checked because you did and found out their decision just before they emailed me about it around 7 am. Rejected post-interview. Not what I'd expected.

Waitlisted. 🙁 But wasn't it said a lot of acceptances are made from the waitlist?

Where does your post-interview status appear on your secondary application?
I interviewed in October, but my application status on the secondary's front page still says complete early July.
Cheers!

You'd see it plane and clear when logging in to the front page, if you don't then it hasn't been posted yet.

A question about the WL: Does anyone know the earliest they start pulling people off the waitlist?

Got an email about a decision made on my application. Waitlisted. Interviewed late September. Not psyched about the waiting game, but whatever.

I'm pretty sure at my interview they said they start re-reviewing waitlist files at the end of January/early February

i got waitlisted as well. interviewed late sept. 🙁

For the waitlist (Competitive Applicant Pool) they will start reviewing them at the end of January or early February and acceptances go out to CAP people in February. I would recommend getting the supplemental letter in as soon as possible but definitely by mid-January.

A significant number of the class are accepted off of the waitlist so don't be discouraged.

aaaand rejected.
ohwell. didn't expect much from GU. :/

When were you complete? I've been complete since mid-September and haven't heard much. I'm guessing I still have quite a bit of waiting to do. Good luck with the rest of your apps!!

No need to worry yet. It seems to take at least a month and a half for anybody to hear anything after an interview so it means nothing that you haven't heard yet. I interviewed early November and they told us that because of Thanksgiving and Christmas we shouldn't expect to hear anything until mid-January. Best of luck

yea it just seems like everyone is getting waitlisted meaning rejects will be more likely

Made a mistake in my post - I interviewed late september. You still have a while to go before they get to you...the pattern I've noticed is that after each meeting (held every other Thursday), they decide on 2 weeks worth of interview slots, with mid sept to the en of the month this time around

so will they release the next batch on thanksgiving or is it safe to assume they will do it the following thursday..?

Don't know if they will release anything the week after thanksgiving but at my interview they told us that because of the holidays we should expect a decision to take about 10 weeks rather than the 6 that is normally does. I interviewed earlier this month.
