Hi Guys,
I submitted my primary application but it is not verified yet. Should I expect to receive 2nd application from Harvard or they will automatically send out AFTER the AMCAS verify the transcript. I m kidda worried since I expect to receive the Second app shortly after submitting the first one

Is anyone else having trouble logging back into their secondary after submitting? I wanted to check my status to make sure I was complete, but it says log in attempt not successful.

I'm also having trouble relogging in to check my status. Maybe they are having an issue with their servers?

If they send you a personal letter saying you've been selected for the minority recruitment program, you got to Harvard for undergrad, but have lower numbers than admitted applicants, should you... bother? Or save the app see and use it for beer money?

(Note: I am white. I do not know why then think I am a URM).

Returned to Vanderbilt to find a letter from HMS Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs asking me to consider applying.....

In the same boat. My numbers are lower than their average (whose... aren't, though), and I got such a letter back in the spring. I'm a Harvard undergrad, though, so I thought that was the reason I was on their radar.

I'm not sure if they just try to "recruit" people like us to lower their admissions rate even further.

Interview Invite! 9/14! Super pumped!

CONGRATS!

P.S. Does anybody know if Harvard sends "complete" emails? I got a secondary received email a while ago but just thought now that it may be weird I didn't get a complete email yet. Submitted everything 8/3

I don't think they do complete emails but there is a status page that you can check which will let you know if you are complete.

Submitted on 8/1, Complete on 8/8.

Interview invite a couple of hours ago! Still in shock. Complete 8/5.

Everyone who was invited for an interview: did you ONLY apply to New Pathway?

I am a Canadian applicant, and will be in Boston for an interview with BU. How would one go about writing an in-the-area email to Harvard? I've never written one. are these emails usually frowned upon?

Interview Invite via email-New Pathway Program, I will also be in Boston in Nov but the only available dates are in Oct....Has anyone had success with in the area calls/emails? Do you guys think that interviewing later in the cycle puts you at a disadvantage?

I received an invitation for dates in Sept. but could not make any of the dates that they offered. I emailed them, and they emailed me back saying that they would schedule another interview for me sometime in the future but that they couldn't give me an exact date. Two weeks later, I received an email for dates in Oct. I'm pretty sure they only schedule interviews on a month-by-month basis. And interviewing later is definitely not disadvantageous because their admissions process is not rolling.

" You will have an opportunity within the On-Line Application to request to have a hardcopy HMS Admissions Bulletin mailed to you, as well, and you can wait for the Bulletin to arrive if you prefer. "

I can't find this option anywhere in the secondary, anyone else have luck?

Anyone going on October 1? It's a Saturday interview... came as quite a surprise

I just submitted my secondary today... I hope that doesn't put me too much at a disadvantage, you know, in addition to the fact that this is HARVARD 😀

Holy crap, interview invite!!! So so so excited!

EDIT: NP only.

Congrats! Do you mind posting when you were marked complete?

I have no idea, I submitted 7/20 but my letters were in limbo for a while. Apparently, they'd been received by the admissions office but weren't marked as such online.

Good luck to all!

hey guys, I am not applying this cycle but am curious about their calculus requirement. Are they that strict? Does anyone know if there have been people without calculus who got into NP?

Since it's Harvard, I'm assuming it's a strict requirement. It's an easy way of screening out people. The website also said that one year of calculus is one of the minimum requirements.

Now that I read the new requirements, it seems they are going to be slightly flexible with the calculus requirement. You still have to take a year of math, but they'll accept certain statistics courses in addition to calculus courses.

Harvard is more lenient than many other schools, like state schools.

e.g. A current third year didn't take any lab courses.

Does anyone know if Harvard is receptive to pre-interview update letters?

My take on this has always been, unless you are absolutely sure your updates are of such exceptional caliber that they will alter the rest of you application significantly you only end up looking like you are struggling for air-time...something that can undo any good you had going for you. Be judicious, and use your gut😉

Hey! I'm interviewing for HMS in mid-Oct. and would really like to hear from those who have interviewed (or interviewing on the 1st) how late the day runs. It seems the only reasonable flight I can catch leaves at 6:30p, so I'm hesitant because the invitation cautioned against scheduling before 7p. Thanks, really appreciate it, and good luck.

It was very relaxed, conversational. Saturday interviews end really early in general. Ours ended around 130pm today. But I heard that on weekdays, it might run till as late as 7pm. Also, student interviewers will make more appearances beginning from next week. For now, it's all faculty interviewers plus a student observer.

That's more common for nontraditional students or people who went to "really small liberal arts schools."

Although, if they accept you, it's highly unlikely that they'll reject you for course requirements. And almost everyone here (I would wager literally everyone) has spent at least a year in a lab doing research, which would probably count for lab experience somehow.

My first interview for Harvard is in a week in a half. Anyone receive their secondaries here can give advice?

Has anyone that did both HST and new pathway received an II yet?

Interview invite 10/4! Complete 8/25. Really excited for this opportunity! Good luck everyone! 🙂

I would highly advise to schedule a Saturday interview. The faculty actually has time to sit down and talk to you for an hour or so - luxury you don't have on a weekday when physicians have to worry about their patients waiting outside...Plus, you don't have to miss classes!

Does anybody know if they are receptive to "In the Area" emails? I know it's a really slim shot that I'll get in at all let alone even receive consideration for my email, but as a Cali resident it would cut a lot of costs.

I sent an "in-the-area" email and got this reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. Should you be selected for an interview, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Unfortunately, I'll be in the Boston area in less than two weeks, and I haven't heard anything. If you send an email, just be polite and mention that you'd be willing to come for an interview regardless. It didn't seem as though it was an uncommon request.

Regarding the "in-area" emails...how do those work? I have an interview set up for BU, but haven't heard back form Harvard after nearly 2 months (Aug 18 :-\). I feel like sending an email regarding interviews is kind of getting ahead of myself...especially if I haven't heard back after this long, I'm kind of in limbo and it might set of an "arrogant" or w/e label that'll push me towards rejection...lol...am I thinking too much?
