Interview Invite! OOS, 3.42 cGPA, 3.14 sGPA, 28M, complete mid August
Interview here too! High 30s MCAT, 3.5 GPA, complete end of August.
1st Interview Invite ever (after going 0/23 on my first application attempt last year)
I guess having your Primary processed on 6/28 instead of 8/2 can make all the world of difference?
3.6 GPA / 31N MCAT
the 22 pages of that 2010-2011 Hofstra Application Thread took almost a whole day to read through.

Interview invite today 🙂 But there were only December dates! I love Hofstra and it's 10 minutes from where I grew up. I feel so lucky!
Sorry for the excessive exclamation points, just very excited. 😳

Just got interview invite yesterday!
Scheduled for 12/9
If you are coming from out of town..you go to penn station and take the LIRR to long island..from the train station I suggest a cab. I am not sure of the cost of the cab but it shouldn't be more then 10-15.

So my travel plan is this:
- Fly to JFK
- Airtrain from the airport to LIRR Jamaica Station.
- LIRR to go from Jamaica to Hempstead.
- Taxi to hotel.
It seems that all transportation run 24/7 so it doesn't matter what time you get to JFK. If anyone familiar with the area can confirm that my plan is the fastest and cheapest way to get to the hotel I would appreciate it.

You COULD venture into the bus system for cheaper, but I believe that would be much more complicated and take much more time and energy. Your plan is the route I would take 🙂

Air train is awesome, it's like $5. I was an oos undergrad at nyu for the past four years. Your route is definitely the cheapest. Don't bother getting lost on a bus.

Thanks. I am landing at 8 pm so definitely not taking any risks of getting lost.

Got an II a few days ago and scheduled for 11/17 interview. Anyone else going on that date? My flight doesn't get into LaGuardia till about 10:30PM, the LIRR still runs that late correct?
It'll still run, but at lesser intervals
Excited for my interview! Oct 21
OOS, 3.3, 38Q
🙂
Congrats! If I had a 38Q, I would expect interviews left and right!. Congrats on that too!

If you're coming in later in the night, I would suggest actually taking the LIRR to Mineola. There are more taxis there (though you still might need to call one - I've never taken one from any station). Also, the Hofstra Blue Beetle shuttles between Mineola and Hofstra at all hours, so if your hotel is actually closer to Hofstra, that might be a cheaper option for a taxi. Plus Mineola is in a better neighborhood than Hempstead.

Thanks a lot for the info. I will stay at that Marriott where everybody is staying. Would I be able to use the Blue Beetle? How far is the walk from the Blue Beetle station to the hotel?
I have a question about the essays. The essay question posted on here for the second essay read "If you are currently enrolled as a student, indicate what you will be doing...." but the essay I'm seeing says "If you are not currently enrolled as a student, indicate what you will be doing..." Was the one posted here incorrectly copied?
My interview isnt till December! Wow that's a long ways away haha. How many interview days are they having before then? Seems like not too many!

Are you at the Marriott in Uniondale? Google maps claims that the Hempstead train station is about 3 minutes by car closer to the Marriott, but Mineola is a better area. If that's the right hotel, you can actually walk to campus, especially as the med school is on the east side of campus.
The Blue Beetle goes directly from the Hempstead train station during the day (Mineola after 6 or so) to the Hofstra campus. It does not go to any hotels. It's too far to walk, but it's less than 15 minutes by taxi.
When is your interview?

Mine is on October 27th. So I can take LIRR from Jamaica to Mineola then Blue Beetle to Hofstra then walk to Marriott in Uniondale? Thanks.

That should work if you don't mind walking about a mile. The hotel is just on the other side of Nassau Collesium, which is across the road from Hofstra. A taxi from Mineola would be easiest - I was thinking that you could probably walk from the hotel to campus for the interview. Check it out on Googlemaps.
Depending on what time you get in, I wouldn't mind picking you up from Mineola. It's about a 10 minute drive away from me, and I'm done by 8pm on Thursdays.
i added this school a little later, i haven't received a secondary yet...how long does it take??

I can walk a mile no problem or take a taxi straight from Mineola like you said depending on the weather. Thank you so much for the offer but I wouldn't want to be a bother.

It took me 5 weeks but one guy got invited after 3 days.

LIRR runs pretty much all the time but if you are getting in really late like 1am-2am there is usually a gap in train times until about 4-5 am.
Also word of advice..don't walk around hempstead/uniondale at night

Please do not do this. If you're getting in at an unreasonable time, please take call a taxi. Hempstead is not the greatest area, nor is Uniondale particularly nice. Garden City is, which is why I highly recommend taking the LIRR to that station, not Hempstead.
+1 II, took a date in january.

+1 feels like everyone who applied is getting an interview 😕
Wouldn't go so far as to say it's discouraging, but it's not exactly what you'd call a confidence booster...
Yea I look at this interview as a chance to practice interviewing skills.+1 feels like everyone who applied is getting an interview 😕

Not true...
My interview is 12/9. If anyone would like to switch, I'd love an earlier date! But only Tuesdays and Fridays, please.
A few fun facts/answers to questions I saw as I was skimming the thread.
1. Acceptances are not rolling. The first wave of acceptances will not come out until mid-January. After that, I've got no idea if its rolling or if they do acceptances at regular intervals.
2. The financial package is still under review. There will definitely be need-blind financial aid given to everyone, but the amount is still being discussed (as of early september this info was accurate).
3. This might not be the place to say it, but I have an early date anyway so what the heck. Earlier dates *MAY* open up, again pending a decision by the adm office. So it doesn't hurt to check every few days to see if there is an earlier date.
Best of luck to everyone!

when does it start snowing in NYC? My interview is on Halloween.
Do I need to buy an overcoat?

I think Halloween is pretty chilly in NYC. Maybe not a full-on winter coat with a hood, but I would wear a coat over your suit. That's just me though!
