Hi sweetness and Obeah, seriously I only go one the pre- allo forums because there are some interesting topics sometimes. I never go to what are my chances. I don't care for it. A couple of weeks ago, some ridiculous dude made a thread called "Howard med bad". Isn't that bull? I didn't say anything then, but I just got so mad today that I had to say something. These people think Howard is so horrible and always trash talk it. Gosh, such ignorance and arrogance. Anyways, we know what's up and we know Howard, Meharry and Morehouse are doing good🙂👍😍, so that's all that matters.

It is unfortunate that there are some people that think that way. If these people don't like these schools then dont apply; no need to hate. Medical school is a great blessing. And you are right, what is more important is that we know that Howard, Meharry, and Morehouse, are great medical schools. I love what Howard represents and I would be very happy and greatly love to be a medical student here. 🙂

Hey! Just wanted to ask how long it took some of you guys to get marked as complete. I mailed my secondary almost 3 weeks ago but have not heard from Howard yet- I know they say to wait 4 weeks, but I just wanted to see what their general turnaround period was to mark applicants complete.

Thanks for the reply, sweetness! Sounds like it was a 2 week turnaround period.... I'm going to give it till next Wednesday before I call to make sure everything is fine with my application...
Interviewed yesterday at Howard... I guess I will join the line of the waiting and wishing for Howard's acceptances.. absolutely loved the school's rich history and where they are going as a medical school. Met some really nice and passionate individuals... I can't wait.

This year they received more than 7,000 applications and more are still being reviewed, so you can imagine how hard they are working right now. They hope to catch up this week. I just wanted to stop by and say good luck!!! I know this process has been long (and even longer for others) but there is light at the end of the tunnel! Just try to stay positive and focused on the bigger picture which is being accepted. Although it is always nice to have an early interview and an early acceptance, the bottomline is to actually get that acceptance.
Last year I was not extended an invite until Jan 9th for JAN 11th and I had to push my interview back until Feb 8th (due to financial reasons) and I was still able to gain a seat. I think my interview date and time was the PERFECT TIME bcuz I had my BEST interview ever and I was more prepared. I even interviewed with some great ppl and around the same time as some of the dearest friends and one amazing person, Beeweew. I would not change that date for the world.. but you couldn't have told me that last year at this time lol...
Im sure you guys are anxious but just send in your updates at the top of the year (since classes end next week and the school is closed) and let them know that your really interested in coming to HUCM.
If you have any questions, dont hesitate to IM me, DrDang, Beeweew, Ms Dee Dee, or supermomMD any of us will be able to help answer any questions pertaining to HUCM

first and foremost: CONGRATS on the interview!!! 😀
2. Just be yourself. the interviews are very relaxed. If they have already decided that they like you enough to admit you. now they just have to see if you (beyond the numbers and personal statement) would be a good fit at HUCM.
3. be prepared for any and every question. Try to look at you application and have an answer for any and of your flaws that they may ask about. You dont wanna look like you do not have any answer for something that they may consider as a critical indicator of your success (whatever that may be)
4. BE YOURSELF. Sometimes ppl try to be what they "think" the interviewer whats them to be and normally that will guarantee you a Deny letter.
At this point, you have already been accepted, its your spot to lose. just come prepared, enjoy yourself and enjoy the moment. I'll make sure I come say hello on Wednesday 🙂
Hi Dr. Dang! I was so excited to meet you during the open house tour yesterday. It was like seeing family. The staff at Howard are so thoughtful and the students were very friendly. Hoping for an invite soon. I'm waiting for the fall semester to be over to send in the grades for my current courses. I'm from NY, but I will continue to pray for that move to DC to attend Howard. 😍

I'm also praying to be part of Howard's wonderful family. I love this school and the people! And I'm praying also for that move to DC from IL. I pray that we get accepted here. 🙂

Hey Beeweew,
I haven't heard and I've been complete since late August and have made some attempts to update the admissions office through Ms. Walk (by email and print letter dropped off while I was in DC) but haven't really been getting replies (confirmation of email receipt or something). I am really looking forward to hearing from HUCM since my closest friends currently attend! I even retook my MCAT in hopes to increase my verbal score and hopefully get a shot at HUCM. Any tips?

I haven't been keeping up with SDN lately because of work and have been helping my mom who's dealing with some intense pain (no one knows what it is!!!). I pray that she gets better and would appreciate if other can pray for her too.

My advice to you is to call during call hours posted on the admissions website and basically confirm that they have received your info. Usually, admissions is very busy with so many e-mails coming in and they can't respond to each and every one of them with more interviews and applications coming their way. Because those call times are specifically set up for prospective students, you can talk to someone directly and express your interest and confirm that your updates have been received. All the best!

Thanks, Sweetness. I'm praying her X-ray results don't show anything serious. At this point, she doesn't care about the dangers of surgery or any other procedure, as long as it promises less pain. She's pretty desperate for some relief. I can't imagine how if feels to have so much pain that you're unable to sleep or care for your children (my youngest sibling is 6). She just prays to be healthy enough to raise her and be here for us. I pray the same. The interesting thing is that there are a lot people like her in my community, suffering from pain but lacking the knowledge or guidance to do anything about it. I hope that by becoming a physician I can be a beacon of hope and guidance for her and others like her (which I know NYC and other underserved areas are full of).
Here's to hoping we make it to a medical school like HUCM which is dedicated to patients like these, so that we can help alleviate some of the pain disadvantaged populations suffer from and reconcile some of the disparities in these communities. Amen.

I pray that it isn't something serious with your mother's condition. Your hope and reasons for becoming a physician is very similar to mine. I too hope and pray that I am a great hope to the community and that I will be able to alleviate the pain in these populations. May our Lord grant us this blessing to become a medical student and help us. I have complete faith in Him. I pray that we hear good news and that we will become future medical school classmates at HUCM! Amen, my friend 🙂

Im sure at one point in all of our lives we feel that we are so damaged that there is no hope for any form of repair. Today God wants to disprove your unbelief.
Psalm 34:18-The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and comes to those who are crushed in spirit.
Life can sometimes come with alot of unexpected events. Lessons that we learn can sometimes leave us bruised, beat up, and can may remove the label that defines who we are. Sometimes we feel as if we are tossed in a bin, no longer worthy of place on the shelf. But my dear friends, I have great news for you. Remember that we all have been damaged to some degree, but Christ has paid the price for us all. No longer are we considered unworthy. He has adopted us all into his royal priesthood. You are a citizen of his royal kingdom. You are sons and daughters of a king. Yes, you may not be living the life you may have dreamed about. However, the damage that you have suffered has made the contents of your heart so much sweeter, so much more compassionate, and so much on the pursuit of Jesus.
Do not let the devil steal your joy! Rebuke him in the name of Jesus. I challenge you today to tell the devil: My damage has not defined be, but it is refining me. You have been through the process and now you are coming out as gold. You have been shaken, but by the grace of God you will not be broken. I leave you with this folks, Trust God even when you dont have the courage to do so. He is the repairer of souls. He has the power to make you whole again. What will you trust God for today? I dare you to trust and see the great miracles that he has for you. Be encouraged folks!
Prayer of the day: Dear Lord my life has not turned out exactly like I thought it would. But I know you can still use me. Please forgive me for labeling others and judging by their outside circumstances instead of the work that you are doing in their heart. Help me to realize that we all have dents but that's what keeps us desperate for a savior. In Jesus name, AMEN!
