We have made more than 1000 posts on this thread!! May this year bring us the success and happiness we seek. May our Lord grant us success and prosperity. With His Name and Will, we will prosper and succeed. In our hearts we sincerely want to become doctors. I pray that He provide a way for us and bless us to become medical students at HUCM. It's a blessed school with a blessed mission that I take to heart and pray to be a part of soon. Amen. 🙂

All praises and glory are for you Lord. You are the Greatest and full of mercy and blessings!

Hello folks, I finally decided to cave in and post in one of the school specific threads. I only never did so because I didn't have any interviews, nor did I think I would receive one. Low and behold, I have an interview scheduled with Howard coming up in 3 weeks, so here I am. Here's to hoping that 2012 brings us all good news

Congrats SM! You'll knock it out for sure. Just be prepared for the interview and have fun.

This forum >>> all other MS forums. Folks here don't care about your stats, they just want you to be the best doc you can be, and we know how hard it is to get into MS, so I believe there's a greater appreciation of the process here.

I received my acceptance this past month, and I'm stoked, so I really hope you all get some great news soon, whether it's an interview or that acceptance packet.

Happy New Year!!!!

Congrats on your acceptance Management!! 🙂 It's a tremendous achievement to be accepted to med school. Hopefully I will see you this summer hehe 🙂

@Sweetness: I can definitely relate to your situation. I was in your similar circumstance in the past and with the support of family, friends, and God, I have managed to stay strong and positive, even when I was feeling down and/or giving up. Just stay strong like you're doing right now. 2012 will be a great year for all of us.

Congrats and hope your interview goes well!

Yea, I have a feeling that this year will be great, and turning to God def helps. It is pretty depressing at times. But we gotta stay strong and think well. I hope in the summer of 2012 I can join you good folks at HUMC.

Whats up folks. Dang I have not been on here in quite sometime. Whats new?
Happy New Year to you all and I am confident that this is our year.

Hey Obeahdoctor! It looks like some more people got accepted and some recently have received interviews. And I pray that this is our year and we are the type of students and future docs that HUMC seeks! I haven't been in school for a few years and I pray that this is that blessed year that we began our journey in medicine! 🙂

I had a beautiful dream of being accepted to medical school the other day. Such a great feeling to get accepted. Hope to be able to experience that and pray that dream comes true. 🙂

I hope that dream comes to pass for you brother sweetness.

those who received interviews: when was your secondary complete, and when did Howard send you an interview invite?

Good Luck on you interview SilentSoldier!!! You are going to love it here at Howard! If you have any question, PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can... Classes start back up tomorrow so there might be a slight delay in my response.

interviews are not given out based on the order that they were received. HUCM seems to give out interviews based off of the entire application such as MCAT score, GPA, personal statement, community involvement, achievements/accolades, health care experience, and life experience. After reviewing all of these criteria, interviews are given out. The great thing about HUCM is that its not all based on GPA and MCAT scores otherwise my entire class would be composed of students with 30+ MCATs and 3.6 GPAs. For every 30 MCAT, there is also a student with a mid/high 20's MCAT and a 3.3 GPA with a plethora of real-life experience, research, and/or community involvement.

In my opinion, this is the great since over 6000 students are applying from 115 seats

That's what I love about this school. It is not based on MCAT/GPA. It is based on so much more. 🙂

Hopefully Howard doesn't overlook me. Lots of volunteer clinical exp and work with underserved. Below 30 mcat, but i worked really hard to bring it up to a high 20s number

Hey ouLUSH, HUMC is a great school. I hope they can keep me in their hearts too. I love this school and I have a great passion to help those disadvantaged and underserved. I hope and pray that when I do become a doctor that I'll show by example how much I sincerely want to serve and help the communities. HUMC is a very excellent school, and I hope that of those 115 seats, we will be blessed to have one of them. 🙂

just make sure you contact them once a month with updates on anything that you are doing. The easiest way not to get overlooked is by making yourself known... Now, Im not saying that you go up there every week and you start to bombard them with phone calls and emails bcuz Im almost positive that it would have an adverse effect on your application lol. I am saying that it is easy to get lost in the middle of 6500+ qualified applicants for 115 possible seats

I was afraid of annoying them lol so I held back on sending any updates but when I read your advice today, I went ahead and updated them on my activities. Question: when you send an update do they confirm receipt or something or should we just assume it's now added to our file?

Btw, happy new year everyone! Here's to hoping we all have a healthy, successful, and prosperous 2012 aka start of med school, God-willing! Anyone do anything interesting for the holidays/new year? I've been having LOTS of family time and it's been quite amazing (as you can tell from my lack of posts lol). But my sister is leaving soon so things will be back to normal soon 🙁. It was a nice distraction for me during all this anxiety.

Contacting them is good especially with any significant updates. And do not email/ call them too much!!!! I remember back in November when I spoke with Ms. Walk, she mentioned that you don't want the admissions to see you sweat by contacting them often. Her advice is to relax. The people in admissions are nice and they are very willing to help. I know that it is tough to wait and there are the occasional moments of feeling down. But put your trust in the Lord and believe!!!!! 🙂

Unfortunately, update emails are not always responded to with a conformation email. I recall just confirming that they received it whenever I called in during the scheduled phone hours. Im not sure if these hrs are still the same but:

Mondays: 10 -12:30 p.m.
Thursdays: 1:30 - 4 p.m.
Fridays: 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m
PHONE: 202-806-6279

MWB, it sounds like you spent your holiday quite well 🙂

Hey everyone, it's Friday and hope everyone's weekend goes very well. It's a beautiful weather in Chicago and hope the weather is nice wherever you are. (And I hope that we will meet in DC this summer, God willing, and enjoy the weather in DC for the next four years.) 🙂

Hey Wonderful brothers and sisters! I thought to drop a word of encouragement like everyone else has. I applied to Howard in 2009, got an interview in March, and was rejected a month later. I reapplied last year and was 'silently rejected'. However, the poeple I encountered at my interview, and on this forum, gave me all the reasons to persist in my ambitions for a medical career. Even though I was unlikely to ever be admitted to HUCM after 2 attempts, the advice Ms Walk gave me the first time I was there landed me interviews in 7 out of 11 schools I applied to this year. I am now sitting on 5 acceptances at schools I never had a shot at just last year, and have 2 more interviews scheduled. Ms Walk was so gracious to me when she invited me to a 'debriefing' phone call months after my rejection to help me put a finger on how I could improve my application. You will all be very lucky to attend Howard, and it is a blessing to be chosen to go there. I was one of the 'waiting faithful' on this thread but I will remind you all that God may choose to bless you by sending you somewhere else other than Howard like he did me...just trust Him and His plan for you. I know I was meant to meet Ms Walk because her presence at Howard and my meeting her is what opened up doors for me elsewhere. I am leaning on going to school next door in Maryland if the scholarships work out just so I can be close to Howard, and all of you there!! Have a hopeful day now, won't you?

Happy to hear about your story, and congrats for getting accepted to medical school. Getting into Howard is a great blessing and becoming a doctor is a great blessing. In my heart, I want to be a doctor and sincerely make a difference. Ms. Walk is a very nice lady, and I am praying with all my heart that I get accepted here. I hope that your journey in medicine is blessed and that you do many great things as a doctor for others. 🙂

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone applying. I know this thread kept me going when I was in the thick of the application process. Howard is a great place and I am a better man for being here. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I am on my surgery rotation so I may be slow to respond, but I will respond.

I have an interview at Howard on January 10th. I hope Everything goes well.

God is with you my dear! I pray that I will also get the privilege to interview with Howard University. Those who have been invited consider yourselves already accepted, have faith and confidence but most importantly, trust in God and nothing can come in your way!!

Hope all is well with you Sister Obeahdoctor. That's a great thing to do. Prayers really help the situation and the heart and soul. Prayers really help to get rid of the worries and the depression. I am doing well with the grace of God. 🙂

I believe that the office was real busy last year, being the reason why a whole lot hasn't happened as compared to the last cycle. I'm hoping for a whole lot more traffic here from many interviews and acceptances this winter and spring.

Don't be depressed bruh, cause the best is yet to come........

the secondary is due Juan 15th...
Is it way too late to submit this cycle?....I am undecided if I should submit it or not ...

^^^^
What do you have to lose? Nothing to lose (well except 75 bucks and postage lol), but everything to gain. Just make sure it gets there in time.

I say go for it! As management said, you've got nothing to lose.

BTW, I was accepted here last month. Lovely school!

I'd say go for it. HUCM is an amazing institution and I know several people there who are following their dream AND LOVING the whole process.

Had a quick question, does anyone know if Howard offers student hosting for interviews? I have a friend who lives in DC and I might be crashing at his place, but I wanted to know if the school offers hosting and how much it may cost.

^^^^^
Nah, best bet is to room with your homie. They have a Hotel very close that's 90-110 per night.
