Good News everyone, I was accepted into the entering class of 2016 and couldn't be more happy.
I am truly humbled and really cannot contain how grateful I am to become a part of the history of Howard University College of Medicine.

I have been reading this forum for a little while now, but this is my first post on this forum. You all are very encouraging and kind! 🙂 I want to say congratulations to everyone who has received interviews and acceptances! Praise His Holy Name for this! I too am hoping and praying for an interview! My secondary was complete in August, but I've heard nothing. I did call the admissions office a few weeks ago, but the person who answered was not Ms. Walk. I asked the person if my application has been reviewed yet, and he said that it had been reviewed and that when an update to my status becomes available, it would be sent via email to the address listed in my AMCAS application . . . Is this just a nice way for him to say that I am not being considered for an interview?

I also sent an email to [email protected] a month ago to express my continued interest in HUCM, but I did not receive any replies.

Two days ago I emailed Ms. Walk to update her on my activities since graduating in Dec 2011 and to express my continued interest in HUCM. I haven't yet received any replies. I know that she probably receives tons of email so should I not expect a reply? If not, should I call the admissions office again to see if they received my updates or will this be perceived in a negative way?

so you will get an email with the status of the app? I was told many different things
Us being able to call after the email that the letter is on its way
Result posted through snail mail
Result given to us through email
Admissions office calling us

I'm so confused cause its getting to that time in which I was told my letter would be signed and on its way to me (regardless of the decision) and I'm just confused on if there's a chance I can know my fate before the snail mail arrives. Any newly accepted students or current students care to chime in?

You are sent an email stating that "you're application is out of committee and that you can call for the results" and an official letter will be mailed to your address shortly.

CONGRATS BeanTree!!! Can wait to meet all of you guys in July!!! If I could suggest anything, it would be to try your hardest to relax this summer. If you had to review anything, look over biochem (since that will be your first exam in August). PM me if you have any questions.

I have been reading this forum for a little while now, but this is my first post on this forum. You all are very encouraging and kind! 🙂 I want to say congratulations to everyone who has received interviews and acceptances! Praise His Holy Name for this! Call to confirm that they are receiving your updates and for the status of your application. If you have not been calling a lot then I do not see why this would be a problem. They're really great people in admissions and all of them can answer your questions.

Sometimes applicants get the misconception that only Ms Walk has the answers but that is not the case. HUCM really has a good team working in admissions and whoever answers the phone should be able to give you adequate answer.

The facebook group normally is given to the incoming student body at the beginning or Middle of April. By then, majority of the class has been filled and we will be able to help usher you guys into the school via housing information, apparel sales, important dates, and hopefully a few meet-and-greet dates. We will also be available to continue answer questions.

I met a few during my interview day and talked to students who mentioned there were a few pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, etc in their class with previously-established careers before their pursuit of an MD degree.

Thanks, MWB! It looks like HUCM welcomes career changers! I've been a manufacturing and quality professional in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years. I returned to school in 2009 in pursuit of my dream to become a doctor.

I was told that Ms. Walk probably got it but doesn't reply to updates or emails with information she did not request! Sounds like a bad sign to me... I really hope that I still have some chance at attending this school.

Don't give up hope green1! I sent in my update letter and I called about 1.5 weeks after I sent it in and they gave me a similar response. But then I got the email inviting me for an interview a couple of days after that. So you never know but don't take that as a bad sign 🙂

Hi everyone, I'm also a silent lurker. I am proud of everyone who got an interview and have been accepted, Congrats! You've earned this privilege through your hard work and fortitude.

Howard is my top choice to study medicine and like all of you I am praying faithfully to God for a chance to study at HUCM. I grew up in an underserved community and taking care of underserved populations and giving back to my community in the future means the world to me. Howard's mission coincides with mine and being able to learn in this environment would make learning medicine so relevant and fun.

I'm amazed at the collaborative, supportive, and spiritual nature of this HUCM thread. It shows the high quality of individuals that Howard attracts and more importantly that someday, many underserved patients will benefit greatly from the care that each of you will provide. Lets keep our faith in the Lord strong during this trying time and keep inspiring each other.
