Well I interviewed in early March and when I got the e-mail that I was put on the super alternate list, they said the committee has voted to accept me however due to the fact that so many people have accepted their offers they had to place me on the super alternate list. They say there will be movement in mid-May though. Trust me people always drop. They get into other schools etc. I might even withdraw because I got into a school of my choice already. Still deciding. Don't worry!

Thanks 13294!. I'll try to remain hopeful 🙂

Keep the faith Pinny! We are all praying for you🙂 God did NOT bring you this far to leave you....know that He has a plan for you and because you are His, you are surely destined for Greatness! We can't let that ole devil creep in and steal our JOY😀 I know it's hard....I've been through the application cycle a time or two....or THREE (not with HUCM), so I know all about failure and disappointment. But God! He's working it out for you, me, and every other believer in this forum. Put your complete trust in Him and know that He will see you through😉

Hey SDNers,

I got an email today saying i was placed on the alternate list. It's funny because although I was telling MWB to remain positive, I couldn't help but feel disappointed when I saw it. I also realized that it just said i was on the alternate list and not the "super" alternate, so I don't know if that diminishes my chances of an acceptance.

I'm still hopeful and trying to keep my faith throughout this whole process. I'm going to send my grades from this semester and keep them up to date on my progress. But I now know EXACTLY how you felt MWB...... HOWARD IS WHERE I WANT TO BE and that's the reason why it takes such a toll on my emotions.

Best of luck to you all who are still waiting on decisions! 🙂

Def want to tell everyone to keep your faith and hope strong! 🙂

Anything can happen! As the days come ahead, there may be more spots available. 🙂

Even though I got the out of committee email and what appears like a final decision, it could be either an acceptance or a rejection. I'm praying and hoping that it is an acceptance. I hope to share with you all the news. Praying to be part of the class!!!! 🙂

Amen, indeed put your complete trust in God and He will make a way!!!!! 🙂

We'll all keep praying for each other and keep up the positive vibes as best as we possibly can! God is still and always in control.

We're all rooting for you Pinny. I interviewed 3/6 also, but have not heard anything. I don't think that God is in the business of setting up His children for failure. Let's keep praying, keep hoping, keep believing, and keep praising. He'll come through. He always does, even if it's not in the way that we want Him to. Sometimes He takes His sweet 'ol time to prove that you do trust Him!

Keep praying, and He does what is best at the the right time! 🙂

Wow. Is Howard known to be an extremely religious school or is it just the posters in this thread?

Thanks InsanelyPOSH! I needed to hear those positive words of encouragement. 🙂

As far as I know, the school itself isn't associated with any particular religion, but on the other hand, many of this thread's posters will comprise next year's class. Make of that what you will.

I've noticed this too. Anyway, according to the office of admissions they are not sending out anymore interview invitations unless they burn through their alternate list after May 15 th. I'm not surprised but I thought I'd update everyone.

Not to mean, but my first thought was that "Wow this school is running a cult". If you replaced the word "God" with something like "Hashabangdana", you'd think everyone was out of their minds lol.

It's crazy, because looking through all of these school-specific threads, I've never seen any thread so jam-packed with religion as this school. It's kind of scary if you're not a religious person.

I don't know what you mean by some of your comments, but if some people want to turn to God, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I just wanted to say I enjoyed being on this thread and love the amount of support and encouragements applicants give to one another. If many people on this thread comprise this year's class, then let me say I am very grateful to God to be with these bright individuals. What you will find with these individuals are bright applicants that want to make a difference in underserved communities. There is nothing scary or crazy, but alot of understanding and tolerance.

Ditto Sweetness🙂 I am a devout Christian and I am not ashamed to profess my faith within the context of this forum or anywhere else. I do not feel as though we are pushing our faith on anyone by offering spiritual support to fellow believers. You should not be basing your reasoning on whether or not to attend Howard on what is said in this thread or by a particular religion. If Christianity scares you, you may not want to attend any allopathic school because I'm sure someone in the class will mention it, whether they are talking to u or someone else.

Whoa there...you both sound as if you possibly took offense to the question and my response. I know that my response wasn't intended that way, and I have a feeling that the question wasn't either. No one suggested that there was anything scary or crazy going on, nor did anyone suggest that anyone was pushing their faith on anyone else. People base their reasons to attend schools on lots of things, and just as some people have mentioned feeling more supported (spiritually and otherwise) by other people in this thread, there may be other people that don't necessarily want support in the form of open spirituality or religion. Given that there are a decent number of people in this thread that have been accepted and are open about their spirituality (and rightfully so), one can gather that might not change once school starts. Whether or not any particular person will be comfortable in that environment (even with this small sample size) - well, that's part of the reason as to why these threads exist.

TL;DR - no one was being offensive. Somewhat objectively speaking, the tone of this thread begs the question of Howard's religious affiliation.

My response earlier was my opinion of this thread. And to answer your question, Howard doesn't have any religious affiliation. Howard has a very proud tradition of training physicians of all races, ethnic groups, religions, and nationalities. It is an outstanding medical school and is especially interested in helping the underserved. I think Howard Medical school is outstanding .

To me, it seems the tone of this thread is comprised of applicants who are interested in this school. It is very supportive. 🙂

Just Thoughts,

I was referring to the comment Jevo made, not yours. He/She did say it was scary. We cannot prevent spiritual encouragement on this thread. Now, has anyone else received good news from Howard?

In November 1866, shortly after the end of the Civil War, members of the First Congregational Society of Washington considered establishing a theological seminary for the education of African-American clergymen. Within a few weeks, the concept expanded to include a provision for establishing a University. Within two years, the University consisted of the colleges of Liberal Arts and Medicine. The new institution was named for General Oliver O. Howard, a Civil War hero who was both a founder of the University and, at the same time, commissioner of the Freedman's Bureau. (taken straight from Howard's website. From inception, Howard was linked to religion)

I hope that people who have interviewed hear something well and those waiting get that good news. Let's see what the coming days bring! 🙂

From inception, Howard was linked and has a great mission and interest in helping underserved populations and communities. It has an outstanding tradition and history. It is an outstanding medical school with a great program and provides an exceptional medical education. Again, the medical school is proud of a tradition of training physicians of all races, ethnic groups, religions, and nationalities. 🙂

I got the same news and I have my fingers crossed so tightly they're turning blue. Just pray about it and hopefully things will work out in our favor.

PS. Can someone that is in HUCM right now tell me what a normal day is like from waking up to getting out of class to studying and going to bed? I'm interested in the schedule, just to get a better sense of what is to come 🙂

Thanks 13294!. I'll try to remain hopeful 🙂

I got the out of committee email last week. Could be a rejection, waitlist, or an acceptance. When I get the news, I'll let you all know. I hope I share something good with you all!

It's the month of May and I think in the coming days for many medical schools, they may have more seats opening as applicants make their final decisions on where to attend.

July is so close!!!!

I hope we get in!!

Hello all,

Nice to see all of you here remaining positive and optimistic. Keep fighting the good fight! I had a question for any of you that may know the answer. For a non-traditional student working on a master's degree, does HUCM require you to complete that degree before you matriculate?:help:

SB: To all of you who are still waiting, keep the faith. To all those who have been accepted, congratulations!!!!. To the MS-1,-2,-3,-4's, hats off to you all!!!!!

Hey JMW. That's a good question about your master's degree, and my suggestion for you will be to contact the admissions office. Their phone number is (202)-806-6279. These are the recommended days and times to call in Eastern Standard time:

Mondays: 10:30 - 12:00 pm
Thursdays: 2:00 - 3:30 pm
Fridays: 2:00 - 3:30 pm

The staff is very nice and will be able to answer your question. 🙂

Hi JMW03!

I actually asked them this question on interview day and you don't need to complete your Master's degree in order to matriculate. You do need to complete a doctorate in progress in order to matriculate though. Hope this helps.

Howard is my top choice, and I love this school!!!!!! 😍😍😍

Would love to hear that acceptance news soon, especially with Mother's Day coming up!! 😍😍

I'm hoping that we will see each other in July. Two months till medical school begins! 🙂

Your welcome. Good luck to you as well and hopefully we"ll meet in the Fall :xf::luck:

I hope so too!! Really looking forward to it!! I think we may hear near May 15th. 12 days away!!!!!!

I spoke with Ms. Walk a couple of minutes ago!!

And we will await the news very soon! 🙂

Best wishes everyone! 🙂

Just wanted to say to everyone waiting to keep up the hope. Thanks everyone for your help and support. The decision could go either way by being an acceptance or a rejection

This application process has been something! I know the wait is tough and I hope that the seats become available. I think near May 15th there will be more seats available.

I'll say it does feel alot like this at times: 🙁

And yes there were some days in tears as well. 🙁

But I'm hoping and praying that the news we get will bring tears of happiness. I'm hoping for that news of acceptance. I'm really looking forward to the email from Ms. Walk or the Admissions staff to give the office the call to know our decision. Everyday I'm asked about the decision at Howard and I hope I can share good news to the world. 🙂

Good morning everyone! It's May 4th and we are eleven days away from it being May 15th! Is anyone else waiting as well?

I think this is like a final decision, because when I spoke with Ms. Walk, she mentioned they had everything they need. So it will be either an acceptance 🙂 or a rejection 🙁 ... I really hope it isn't a rejection! I love this school and this is where I want to be! I hope the committee likes me too. I don't know of anyone that got rejected right after the interview. and I hope it ain't me either 🙁

Continue to have faith, that good news is coming your way veeery sooon!!!
