Just received an interview invite! I was so excited on the phone I probably sounded ridiculous. I moved to the east coast from Chicago a couple of years ago and my wife and I would absolutely love to move back!

Congrats man! Still waiting for that call...it's officially been a month of "under review" status for me.:xf:

Did you guys list the name of the adviser who prepared the letter packet? Or just the names of the professors who wrote you letter?

Yea, it isn't that big of a deal; Loyola's hold isn't a death sentence (GW comes to mind). If I'm not mistaken, they review your app every month from here on out, so I am predicting an II for both of you in September!

A bold prediction. :xf::xf:

On hold... no big deal tho. Win some you lose some 🙂

Sorry to hear that. On the bright side, the fact that you were under review for close to a month suggests that they were strongly considering you for that first wave of invites.

My MCAT avg is pretty bad, so I'm hoping they'll see my improvement 🙁

I'm just worried about being complete end of August though...

You think?? Well I'm not opposed to interviewing later in the cycle. I like Chicago in November 🙂

Is this known to be true? I was under review forever but I figured the hold was permanent.

It's not known to be true but considering you were under review when others who submitted their applications at the same time were more promptly placed on hold suggests that they were giving you consideration for that first round of invites. I'm sure the people placed on hold are not placed on equal footing.

I hope you're right.

Or, just to shed light on the other side of the argument, that there are fluctuations in the process that we don't know. When files are given to adcoms, one may have reviewed it ASAP whereas the other may have spent 3 weeks getting back to the larger committee.

Motion to change Steve's avatar from MJ to MC (Miss Cleo).

Really hoping I get an interview invite up here. I have no connection other than a few friends in the area from college and I visited last year, but I definitely have the desire!

Chicago is great in October-early November. I find that late November is a little too cold, though.

Haha. I'd consider the switch, but I like my MJ avatar way too much.

No worries, I wasn't complete until the end of August and my MCAT avg wasn't great, but I had a good improvement from my first score (my first score was pretty bad). I got an interview invite in December for the end of January. Accepted in February and NOW, I am here. 😀 So, Hakuna Matata! There's still hope. :luck:

Got a call at 8AM today. Heh I sounded so groggy..oh well yay!! Ahh I'm ecstatic!

Also been "under review" till now

Edit: Not sure when I was complete, though I submitted the secondary July 25th

Did anyone get a status that says tey regret to inform you theycannot offer an interview for this year? Ive only been complete for 2 weeks and was under review.

I dunno if anyone posted that in SDN so far. Most ppl got either an interview, hold, or still under review. Sounds like you got the straight up rejection.
You'll have better luck in others schools, so don't feel too down. Good luck

Thanks it just sucks because i was on their hold until May last year and I went there for undergrad. I recently withdrew from their grad school because of money and wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I will PM you a story. I'm really sorry to hear about this 🙁.

Congrats! I submitted around that time so hopefully I receive similar news. :xf:

"Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in mid-April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail."

lol on hold. -____-

I am so sorry to hear this!!! But if it makes you feel better, I doubt the grad school thing had anything to do with it.

Best of luck!

I am on hold as well. That's too bad.

Yes

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could look at my stats and tell me how competitive I look as a candidate here (for this application cycle), I would really appreciate it! I'm an IL resident btw

MCAT- 29Q PS 10/ VR 10/ BS 9
GPA- science 3.79, non science 3.94, cumulative 3.87

experience:
-shadowed doctor in an ER
-shadowed another doctor
-worked in a medical office
-worked as student research coordinator in a medical research center

And feedback would be great, thanks!

also, I have the opportunity of working with a doctor to do research in Loyola University Hospital and he would be able to write me a recommendation letter in a month, do you think it would look better/improve my chances of getting in?

And feedback would be great, thanks!

Looks great GPA wise... MCAT is a bit below their average. Write a good secondary and I'm sure things will go well for you.

good luck! :luck:

At this point I'm starting to believe that you're correct. I wish they didn't have an online status check because I've been checking my status an unhealthy amount at work.

still under review since the beginning of August. I don't know what that means, but all I can say is that anytime I get a phone call during the middle of the day, I always hope to see that chicago area code haha.

Looks like a lot of competitive applicants have been placed on hold for this school. Weird, considering a lot of you guys received interview invites elsewhere. Med school application process has to be the most random process ever. I'm sure all of you guys on hold (including me) just had a screener who had a fight with his wife that morning and decided to put everyone on hold so he could review them later when he made up with his wife

After submitting the secondary, is there an email confirmation or anything? I clicked the submit/finalize (not the print preview) button and it just took me to a copy of my application. When i log back into my account, it says I have finalized it but I just want to confirm that there was no 'receipt of secondary' email I should have gotten by now?

I don't think so...I did the same as you with the same result 👍

Dear Loyola,

Offer me an interview and I'll be your best friend.

-XOXO, Vandy

Sorry to hear that. Some folks received that status in previous cycles.

Loyola is different. Being on hold here is NOT the kiss of death, by any means. (There is a separate reject status for that). As mentioned, this school re-reviews files all the way until April. They love updates.

It is VERY early in the cycle. I actually was on hold for months until I got an interview invite last March. By then, unfortunately, the class was pretty much full.

I just want to confirm this as well. I was on hold until January before being invited to interview and subsequently accepted. The vast majority of people in the class will have been on hold at some point or another--it is not the kiss of death!!!

For those who are applying this year, I know things seem random, but Loyola really takes it's time to screen applicants they believe would be a good fit for the program. Many schools give lip-service to the whole "we look at the whole applicant" thing, but Loyola really does follow through on this. You'll notice it if you ever interview here--we're a very happy group of people 🙂

I'm still being reviewed but good luck everyone!

Add me to the hold list. I am not having any luck with any of the schools in IL.

Yikes, I'm still in the review process as well. Probably isn't looking too bright for me if you didn't get the interview though. I have implicit ties to the Chicago area, I just didn't have anywhere to put them in the secondary. It is on my primary though, kind've, if a name sounds familiar to them. I would love to live in the Chicago area though no doubt.
