Got the e-mail today from SSOM... logged on to the LOCUS and viewed my awards for 2012/2013.
All loans.

Does anyone know if this is where scholarships would be listed? I am somewhat confused.... because during the second look day I was told by the dean directly that I had received a scholarship and it would be listed in my financial aid. Did I miss something?

When I logged on and viewed my award, I received something called the "SSOM Scholar Award." $3500 for the year. I would call the office if the dean told me I would receive something and all I got was loans

My scholarship was also on my award. "Stritch Scholar Award" as well.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the "SSM Independent Medical Loan" was? Does that mean its a loan from the school or a private loan in general? Also it says allowance for "Grad Plus"...is that just the loan not sure why it says allowance? 😕

I got an email with LOCUS log-in info yesterday but it doesn't seem my award is available to view - "inquiry access denied". Can anyone shed any light on whether I'm looking in the wrong place or something?

Same thing happened to me. Maybe our financial aid packages aren't ready yet?

Thanks for the feedback. Called the office 2 days ago and got the scholarship listed today. There was a mix up with the office of financial aid.

Does Loyola reject anybody post-interview? Or does everybody who interviewed but didn't get accepted just go on the waitlist?

not sure what the independent loan is about, but the gradplus allowance is the amount that you could potentially take out. It's a credit based loan that you have to apply for outside of Loyola Stritch. I would suggest you call the office of fin. aid. They're great. They spent some time with me on the phone explaining things.

good luck!

Did everybody else on the alternate list get that email survey thing about still being interested?

just withdrew, this one was tough (finances brought me elsewhere), good luck everyone!

Just withdrew my acceptance. Absolutely loved loyola, however I chose a school closer to my family, and one that offered a slightly better financial aid package.

I remember Dean Jones saying that most people will be accepted or put on the waitlist, but some will be rejected (not many). He said this to our group on interview day.

have any others who were rejected pre-interview called on Thursdays to get feedback/advising? I called on the 10th and was told someone would call me back later that day and didn't hear.. I called this Thursday to ask again and was told someone would call by the end of the week and never heard anything. I understand that this is a CRAZY busy time of year with waitlists/commencement/etc, but would really like to get some feedback since it's looking like im going to be reapplying

Hi Everyone,

I'm a current M3 (M4 in one week!) at Loyola. Our landlord is renting out the coach house at the back of the property and it'd be a great place for either a single person or couple. The landlords have been great, and we're only a 5 minute drive to Loyola (we're in the neighborhood south of 290 in Forest Park, two blocks from Des Plaines). Currently my wife and I live in the basement of the front building, a couple and lives above us, and the landlords (a married couple) live on the top floor.

Here's the description the landlord sent me:

Cute, Cozy & Quiet 2 BR, 1 BA couch house, perfect for single or couple (max. 2 people) - in quiet residential neighborhood.
Close to 290 & walking distance to Blue Line El Train, restaurants, boutiques, etc. (downtown Forest Park & Oak Park)
backyard patio & more! No pets & No smoking. $800.00/month + utilities

Of course, if you have any questions about Loyola in general, please feel free to ask. Congrats to all those who got accepted!

Not to be a downer, but rumor has it there won't be any wait list movement this year.

For everyone on the waitlist: don't give up hope yet! I had more or less given up on other schools but, without warning, I was accepted off a waitlist at another school last Friday. I'll be withdrawing from Stritch tomorrow or the day after. I can't speak as to whether they over-admitted, but I can tell you that some students are withdrawing (I remember one or two did so on the facebook page, and I don't think those are listed in this thread). So hang in there, it really isn't over until instruction starts!

For anyone on the fence: I had a merit scholarship (the Ignation one- it was for $10,000/year). If you're trying to decide between Loyola and another school, definitely ask if there are scholarship funds available, because it made their cost of tuition very competitive.

May I ask how you heard this?

I heard they were still over accepted from a few current students. Not like its anything direct, but they seemed to know. 🙁

That is pretty interesting if its true. Does that mean that they accepted too many people initially?

Yeah apparently that's what happened and loyola was still way over accepted (like >20 people) well after May 15th. So it doesn't sound like it there will be much movement, if any. As to why this happened and what they plan on doing if they are over accepted come August, I have no idea.

so I just heard back from the admissions office with my post-rejection advising, and the woman I spoke with echoed what was said above, that they're over-accepted by some 20ish people right now. Yikes my condolences to the waitlist here :/

Yikes, I wonder what that mean's for us accepted people. Maybe they will have to offer scholarships to get people to defer for a year.

Yeah, I'm wondering what will happen as well...Are there any AAMC/AMA rules against over enrolling?...They post the # of acceptances granted on their website in the fall so that will be an interesting stat. Last year they accepted around 350 people. Just guessing, I bet they take ~300 initially and then pull ~50 of the WL each year. This year for whatever reason, that ~300 turned into ~170 instead of ~100. Or maybe they were just more aggressive this year.

One contributing factor could be the State of Illinois/UIC's financial instability. A lot of people who get into Loyola probably also get into UIC. Given UIC's tuition increases/poor fin aid packages, people that would have gone there in the past due to the significantly cheaper tuition are choosing Stritch. With Stritch handing out nice fin aid packages, the cost difference becomes almost negligible or better.

These comments aren't based on anything, just speculating.

I totally agree except I believe dean Jones told us that 350 were accepted prior to second look. But, your second paragraph is spot on. Every person that I know, including myself, chose Loyola over UIC. I didn't get a nice financial aid package though 🙁

The real question is what will happen if/once nobody accepts those scholarships to defer a year? I never understood how a school could just accept over double its incoming class size assuming 200 instead of 180 will withdraw.

How often does this type of thing happen? Has anyone seen it in previous years? Thx.

Is there any possibility that they can pick accepted students at random and say "you can't matriculate this year, we're pushing you back another"? I really hope not :scared:

Haha I don't think it's impossible... but I sincerely doubt any of us need to worry at all. Think about everything Loyola has said... everything we've all gone through to get this far... there's no way they would just pull the rug out from under us like that. I'm not worried at all.

lol I agree. I don't think it's possible, idk how acceptances work (sadly..) but how did you confirm it? sign something? I just can't imagine any scenario where they would take away an acceptance or force anyone to defer

So has anyone even heard of somebody being accepted from the alternate list this year?
