🙁 I'm sorry! What were your stats like?
32M, 3.9, MI Resident
Complete on 8/10
rejected today. 28 3.6
on hold or actual reject?
Complete in mid August, In state, 3.6/29Q (Placed on hold today)
Same here 🙁, good luck to all... there is a school that will be a better fit for all of us
To everyone that was placed on hold today: this is a long process, and this will probably happen to you again somewhere else. Just keep in mind that it really will work out in the end and after this is all over, you're going to be really happy (then shortly after that a super stressed and overworked med student haha). Try to remain positive, it can make all the difference in the world.
I can't really comment on how the pre-interview hold system works, but I do know that there was movement on the post-interview hold system last cycle. Hope may not be entirely lost, fight for what you really want. And good luck!

If I were AdCom, I'd accept you based on name and avatar alone.
Epic-ness. Sorry about your situation. There's a beautiful, caring, and quality medical school waiting for you. Keep yo chin up 😎
Screw state for putting me on hold, their medical school is inferior anyways. I've heard from faculty at state that their DO school is better than their medical school... LOL
Pretty sure State is awesome. If you're gonna base it on rankings, then yeah the DO school is ranked higher in primary care, but who really cares?
Your superiority complex is laughable... your florid comments re-affirm my faith in this process. There are other schools. No need to hate on State just cuz they didn't love you back.
32M, 3.9, MI Resident
Complete on 8/10
That's just odd. Good letters? ECs? Could be anything really. You'll have better luck at other schools with those stats. Good luck!!!!

If I were to guess, I'd say it was my ECs. I started research this semester and I wish I could send them an update, but the email specifically requests that I don't. My fingers will be crossed until February though. As you can probably tell from my username, I'm a big State fan 😀
on hold or actual reject?
Actual reject. In state

Why would you apply then? 😕
As codeblu said, this just makes MSU look correct in their rejection.
No news so far here

Hahaha Blizz you've got HAWAII!!! 80 degree weather trumps weather in Michigan.

You sound bitter. Maybe COM will take you instead =D.

This is pretty harsh... I take it you didn't apply to any DO schools. I do however, understand your frustration. I was placed on hold for the 2nd year in a row, despite having competitive stats and MI residency!

Actual reject. In state
I am sorry to hear about the reject. It is odd even though we are all competing I really hate to hear that folks get rejected!
Anyways, did you get rejected before or after interview?
Feels like this entire cycle I've been playing catch up because i took my MCAT late (mid August)
. My app has been complete for only about a week here. I am just curious about how negatively my app will be affected by all this lateness. Any feedback would be much welcomed
1st year EM resident here.
Just finished up my first month of ICU as an intern and must say how thankful I am that I went to MSU for my training.
The administration is a total pain in the ass, its freezing cold, the school seems to do everything in its power to make life more difficult for you, but you get a top notch clinical education during 3rd and 4th year.
Seriously, leaving MSU you will be on the same level as grads from Harvard, Hopkins and the like.

Take my anecdote with a grain of salt, but I was complete towards the end of the cycle (mid October? Or was it November?), and interviewed near the end of the cycle, for very similar reasons as you.
A lot of people have tried to roast me for being "too critical" of Michigan State. All that I did was say something that I heard (that their DO program is actually better than their MD program). And no, I didn't apply to any DO schools this cycle. I'm just a little upset because both my IS schools that are supposed to be relatively easy to get into (Wayne State and Michigan State) have essentially rejected me, even though my stats are well within their ranges and my ECs are stellar. I've already heard from two OOS schools about interviews and both of them are better programs than State and Wayne. This whole process really is a crapshoot.
"Better Program" is a very subjective opinion. Medical school is all about fit. How you conduct yourself when hearing news from a program, that's more straightforward.
So they sent an e-mail for post interview candidates outlining when decisions will be made...

I appreciate the feedback acoustic. I attended a conference at the Sacchia center in april and was quite honestly blown away and would love the opportunity to go back.
But I guess all I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope my app. doesnt fall into that mysterious place between the adcoms desk and wall, never to be seen again 😀

Here's the e-mail.
"Your file is being prepared for presentation to the Committee on Admissions. The committee strives to make a final decision on each candidate's application in a timely manner. The CHM application process is specifically designed so that the time an application is reviewed for a final decision is not a factor in the decision. Seats in the entering class remain available through the end of the application cycle.
When a final decision is made on your application, it will be posted on your Application Status page in CHM AIS. If you check your status on a notification date and there is no change, it means only that the committee has not yet made a final decision on your application. We regret that staff members are unable to provide you with specific information about when a final decision will be made.
NOTIFICATION DATES: You can find a list of notification dates at the bottom of the following web page: http://mdadmissions.msu.edu/applicants/process/process2.php#chmprocess

Not sure that's the right attitude to have? It's a long process and it's still early (I hope).
Anyways, put on "Hold Before Interview" 9/28. Complete 7/14.

How does MSU feel about pre-interview update letters?
They will not accept any letters, of any form.
Everything must be submitted through AMCAS.

No, that isn't what you said. You said their DO school was better than their medical school, implying that DO school is not medical school...
And believe me, if anyone can understand your frustration it is none other than myself. I am 1/7 on interviews in MI for the past 2 cycles and 4/6 in OH. And no, I have no ties to the state of Ohio. Looks like you and me will be leaving Michigan (just like half of the population).

Congrats =D. See you next year if you end up at GR!

Which campus do you like better? GR or EL?
Which campus do you like better? GR or EL?
I interviewed at EL, but personally prefer GR. I prefer the actually city and also the facilities here. However EL has its pros as well. For example, it's much more of a hassle to get to football games from GR! Also, only about 1/4 of our lectures actually happen live here in GR. The rest are broadcast from EL. So if you prefer live lectures, EL may be a better fit for you.
You will get the exact same education at either campus. However, I also love the fact that secchia is right in the heart of the medical buildings here in GR. Walking past the children's hospital, the cancer pavilion and the heart center every day on my way to class reminds me why I'm here.
If you are admitted I would recommend checking out both campuses.

Oh wise PlayUltimate, I have an interview at MSU at the East Lansing site, but I don't know the area and need to get to the airport at Grand Rapids (GRR) after my interview. Is there an Amtrak nearby (East Lansing), and is the station safe at night?
Sorry for the questions, but I've been mugged before (and I was playing it safe so go fig...) and have been at gunpoint. Don't want to go through that again, especially in an unfamiliar area...

There's an Amtrak station right on campus, but it's over a 30min walk from where you'll be interviewing. The campus is huge. CATA buses run on campus though. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful! (If you're ever back in the area, I'd recommend using the Lansing airport.)
Best of luck on your interview. 🙂

The amtrak station is actually along the campus border.. But busses 20 and 39 do pass by it from campus. The only problem is that you would have to walk to the bus station from where you interview which is about a 20 min walk or so. So walking to the amtrak station might be better despite the distance.. Also, yes it's safe at night.

Look into renting a car at GRR. I have used rentals from GRR to go up north and out of state, and the cost wasn't that bad at all even for the bigger cars.
Does anyone know what percentage of the people who are interviewed are accepted to the medical school?
