This may be redundant info., but I just wanted to make it clear to any student who may have applied to MSU CHM or who may want to apply to CHM . . . while good stats are important (MCAT and GPA), it is most definitely not the most important factor. In fact, I would go so far to say that the CHM adcom will not automatically rule you out based upon either a below average MCAT or below average GPA, as long as you can show that you are a great fit for their school in terms of a good matching between your personal portfolio and their mission statement. With that said, it may not always be helpful to compare one's personal stats to the stats of others because each applicant's personal portfolio is very different. Just my two cents worth 🙂

I'd second that. In general that's true for many medical schools. It's important to show that you can handle the workload (with the scores showing only one part of this), but it's also important to end up at a school where you'll be happy (fit).

Rejected after being on hold as well - good luck to everyone else on hold! They are definitely going through our applications now.

I just got the acceptance call about an hour ago! It really took me by surprise since I was on put on the alternate list in December. I didn't think I had much of a chance, let alone to hear this news so far before May!! 😍

Congrats! I got the acceptance call at 7:15, too. Interviewed 12/01. We are feeling the CHM love here in Kalamazoo tonight!

Accepted today. Interviewed in late Jan. 😀

me too! I've lurked on this forum for a few months, but this is my first post 🙂 I'm SUPER excited about MSU and congrats to everyone else who was accepted!

Quick question- how long did it take for those who were accepted to receive the email with acceptance details? And do they assign you to a campus, or can we choose? Thanks!

I got a completely unexpected call from Dr. Maurer last night. I interviewed in Oct. and was put on the alternate list in Nov, so I had resigned myself to waiting for May. I recieved the acceptaance email around noon today. Horray!🙂

Anyone have any info on the ABLE program (other than what is posted on the website)? Like how many people are referred vs. how many are accepted? Or if anyone has gone through it and is willing give their insight on whether it was worth doing? Thank you.

Hi,

I looked through some other threads on SDN and from what i understood is that they accept only 8 students to the ABLE program each year. I would like to know approx. how many students are referred to the program as well. The program sounds great but i am a bit nervous that a referral to the program does not necessarily mean an automatic admission to the program.

Is there a Facebook group yet for the class of '16?

Anybody here planning on going to second look day?

I am planning on going to second look day! Looking forward to it! 🙂

Would anybody be able to provide any input on housing for a 1st year student in E.Lansing? I would highly appreciate it! Thank you!

:soexcited:Accepted Class of 2016 :soexcited:

Lots of great applicants today! Remember that CHM still admits this late in the season and does pull people off the waitlist (usually not until May I've heard, though, but it looks like there was an exception above).

For those who recently came off the alternate list, did you submit update letters or letters of interest ?

I did not send in anything after I was put on the alternate list.

Does anyone know if MSU actively rejects people pre-interview? My secondary application was considered complete on 9/22 and was subsequently submitted to the review board...and since then I have heard NOTHING. Is anyone in the same boat? Do they actively reject people, or should I assume that because I was not put on any kind of alternate list or interview waitlist that I have been silentely rejected? Someone just give me your blunt and honest opinion!!

I'm in the same situation, but I was complete about a month later than you were (10/28).

I sent you both a message about ABLE. I did not go through it myself, but it is a great program with an awesome group of students that tend to be leaders in the class.

Rejected post interview ... What a waste of time. Feeling bad right now.

For those accepted, how long after releasing the results of your background check did it take to get a "formal acceptance?" I released mine six days ago and have yet to hear back. Not worried about it, just want the word "conditional" removed from the equation.

Just got the email for the ABLE program...I've heard nothing but good things about the program so I'm pretty geeked 🙂 Hopefully, it turns into an invite :xf: :xf: :xf:

It took 11 days for me after releasing my background check to go to full/formal acceptance.

I released mine on the 9th and it's not finished yet either. I had about 8 or 9 addresses, half of which I couldn't remember the complete addresses for. I'm guessing the more places you live, the longer it'll take. I feel the same way though- not worried, but I want to see the "formal acceptance!"

Thanks for replying. I've seen my completed CBC and am not worried, but my acceptance feels too good to be true and I want it to be formal. Looks like I'll have to wait a while longer for that satisfaction. No big thing.

Awesome, congrats! I just got the email today that put me on the alternate list unfortunately! I guess it's not the worst possible scenario, they made it seem like at interviews that there's still a good chance you can get in even after being on the alternate list. If you don't mind me asking, did you send an email to the admissions about your continued interest in MSU CHM with any updates on your activities, grades, recommendations, etc? Thanks!

When did you interview, if you don't mind me asking?

I had my interview and visit 1/26 and it couldn't have been a better experience. There was so so much positive energy all around and coming from a smaller city around East Lansing, it was great to be back at MSU. The interview was very stress-free, and my interviewers made it seem like I'd be a great fit at MSU CHM. Unfortunately I got the email today saying that I was put on the alternate list, but I guess that's not the worst case scenario right? Ahhhh! This is pretty much my first choice/last chance, I really really want to get in to MSU CHM! Ha, pray for me! :xf:

Thanks, good luck. Lets hope that they take you off.

I'm also complete early Sept with no news. 🙁 Any info about pre-rejections would be appreciated!

I did not, but I would still recommend doing so.

Released it this past weekend and got a formal acceptance on Monday.

Good luck. I interviewed on the same day as you. :luck:

Nine and a half weeks. Felt much longer, though. Hopefully you won't have to wait so long. Best of luck 😀

I interviewed in late January and heard back in early Feb. I think it varies. Just don't lose hope! :luck:

Hey candidates...to those accepted this week- CONGRATS! To those still waiting- hang in there...as mentioned above the return time varies dramatically from applicant to applicant. Your applications are reviewed by a handful of randomly assigned people on the committee which could take days/weeks. To those interviewing today in EL- GOOD LUCK! To those coming to the 2nd look- I will see you there!! Cheers to everyone and remember...it is a long, lengthy process.
