It's weird how some schools' waitlist seem to be moving little by little each day. For example, U-Pitt's Class of 2016 Facebook group gets a new member every day; whereas NYU's waitlist seems to be frozen solid...

Was there no waitlist movement last year prior to May 15th?

NYU's Facebook page has been frozen at 87 people for a while now. I would anticipate some waitlist movement soon

Can anyone who went to second look give their impressions of the school/future students? Thanks 👍

Second look was unbelievable. We started the day with a wine and cheese reception, had a great dinner by the undergraduate campus, then went out to a bar and partied with future classmates. Everyone was clearly very smart but also really down to earth - I definitely think NYU is one of the most well-rounded med schools out there. The next day, we all had breakfast, listened to a few talks about the school/curriculum/financial aid, broke into smaller groups, had lunch, and spent the afternoon in their insanely nice simulation center. We even got to try out their state-of-the-art technology using 3-d glasses to supplement cadaver dissections (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/08/business/the-human-anatomy-animated-with-3-d-technology.html).

P.S. For those that haven't yet, join the FB group!

Also, there's been like NO recent activity on the fb group while other med school fb groups are blowing up my notifications all the time. Hopefully NYU kids are...just too cool to be on fb all day? Or maybe they're just really apathetic? It's weird.

I noticed that as well...in fact, two members left the group a few days ago (yeah I look at the page everyday so what lol)

So... it's going to be May 15th in three days. Has anyone on the waitlist heard back yet? Or heard anything at all for that matter?

Is anyone else in the same boat as me: a bunch of interviews at fairly competitive places like here then all waitlists? The toughest part is that I think all my friends and family have finally started to lose hope and being paralyzed to plan for next year.

*gasp*

may i ask how you were informed?

edit: also, pardon my manners... Congratulations!!!

congratulations-can you please share stats, etc. and how you were notified?

Mid 30s MCAT score, 3.7 gpa...I got an email this morning saying they had mailed my acceptance to my permanent address. I had sent them a letter of intent, an update letter, and two extra letters of rec since being waitlisted. Hope that helps and thanks for the congratulations! I'm pretty damn excited right now.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. So anxious right now. I have no idea what I'll be doing next year if I don't get off a waitlist somewhere.

Congrats kal2210! I have the same stats as you do, but I only sent in a letter of intent and an update. Now I regret not being more aggressive and trying to get some letter of recs 🙁

did your status on the nyu page change after getting accepted?

I contacted the admissions office about wait list movement today. This is what they said "Today is the last day that matriculated students can get their deposits back so we expect waitlist movement to occur in the coming weeks."

God I've been stalking this forum obsessively. Has anyone on the WL heard back yet?

For those on the waitlist, just a bit of extrapolation on my part that hopefully can help:

If you assume that most of those accepted and planning on attending are in the fb group, that means roughly half the class has yet to be included. So, I believe around half the class will be pulled from the WL (80 people), and not everyone is going to say yes to the offer..so for those still waiting, don't lose hope :luck:

Accepted off the wait list today! Notified by email, stats in MDapps. Was not expecting this at all!

Good luck to all those still on the WL!

me three! good luck =) by the way, does anyone know how NYU takes deferral requests??

Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

Just wondering, what were your stats and did you send LOI's or extra rec letters?

My stats can be found in my MDapps link, and I sent two extra recommendation letters in addition to two updates/LOIs.

Just got in today! I'm trying to debate whether to give up my spot at another school to go. My only real concern is about housing. The apartment I saw was blatantly a two bedroom split. I was wondering if all the apartments were like that? And how big are the bedrooms?

There are two main buildings. One has either 2 bedroom or 4 bedroom suites, while the other is most often a 3 person suite. Here are the floor plans for each:

http://webdoc.nyumc.org/nyumc/files/redaf/u20/2012_Greenberg_Info_Sheet_with_floorplans.pdf (3 bedroom)

http://webdoc.nyumc.org/nyumc/files...Vilcek_Hall_Floorplan_2BR_Suite_8_11_2011.pdf (2 bedroom design)

The 4 bedroom design doesn't have a picture, but I was told by current students that the common area per person is much larger in that design.

3.79 GPA, 34 MCAT, and I sent in a LOI and 3 extra rec letters

Sigh... I have the same stats and I sent in a LOI and two updates, but no letters of rec. It seems that everyone who got in so far has sent in letters of rec. I wish I had realized that sooner 🙁 Right now, my profs are unwilling to write letters of rec because they're already busy writing them for the 2012-2013 applicants.

Yeah, what is this with all the bazillions of letters of rec? Haha, is this an insider SDN secret I haven't seen lying around? I feel like people talk about LOIs/updates all the time, but not extra letters. A big disadvantage to nontrads if that becomes a thing.

Oh well, good thing NYC is much too much city for me 🙂

Thanks! That makes things seem much better. The two bedroom in vilcek was the one I saw on my interview day and was not overly impressed with it. The other ones seem much more enticing. One last question: Will my financial aid package be included in the acceptance packet? At this point that's the only thing that would prevent me from accepting the offer.

No, the financial aid package is sent through email about a week later. I just received mine yesterday. Also, NYU aid is based on need only.

Well, I said that wrong. They email you saying your package is ready and provide you with a nyu username for you activate so that you can view your fin aid package. But as I was saying before, if you need the money they are fairly generous, but if your parents make a decent amount youll probably be looking at all loans.

Hey all, I was also accepted off the WL early this week (3.9+ gpa, 32 MCAT). I sent a "letter of interest" back in April (not even a letter of intent) and no rec letters, so there is still hope if you didn't submit a rec letter!

I didn't send in letters of interest/intent or rec letters, so there's definitely still hope if you're waiting on NYU. I am declining the offer of admission, so that's also a spot for another waitlister 🙂

Could someone please give me a Facebook count? Thank you

archer: There currently 87 members in the Facebook group.

Also: I assume the same 2 week deadline applies to students admitted off the wait list? I.E. If I got in on May 18th, I'd have until June 1st to put in my deposit?

Thank you StMFA. Maybe there will be more movement right after the 1st. Sooner would be better of course!!

Just an FYI: ~20 students in the group are Student Ambassadors in the Class of 2015

Also re: housing:
The way the housing lottery went this year, a large chunk of people moved from Greenberg to Vilcek. Vilcek quads are a hot commodity (and there's only 1/floor), so I there there is a low probability of getting these. Some Vilcek doubles will be opened up by graduating MS4s, but I think it will be skewed more toward Greenberg (3 bedrooms) for 2016. Greenberg does feel more like apartments vs. dorms.

If I had to guess they won't be doing another wave until next week at the earliest. Those in the first wave of waitlist acceptances (myself included) have until sometime this week to reply. Once that happens they will probably meet and fill the remaining open spots, however many those are.

Congrats!! When were you waitlisted/when did you find out?

I was waitlisted during the second round of acceptances, I believe. The waitlist hurt because my interviewer all but assured me a seat in the class, but so it goes. I sent in an update in January and nothing since then.
