this may be a really weird question, but is it appropriate to send post-acceptance updates/transcripts? and if so, how would you format it?

the reason I ask is because in previous years, applicants have been given merit scholarships to NYU. I'm not delusional (I'm not the best thing since sliced bread lol) and I understand how competitive these are, but I really loved NYU and may have to decide between it and a much cheaper option, so I wanna do all I can to be considered for one.

Curious about this too. Also, I haven't received any notification from NYU since the acceptance call/brief letter... is there any specific procedure we should be doing for financial aid/updates/etc. besides the matriculation fee? The silence is a bit unsettling.

I don't think there's anything due for financial aid until March (there's a financial aid sheet in the folder we received during our interviews).

On the website it says they finish Jan. 27th. So that's pretty short notice. The real question is: When are some more acceptances going out? This "rolling basis" is very slow rolling.
 
I took the last day-I live in the city so short notice is no problem. I am shocked though that I even got an invite.

agreed +2. the last batch of people who posted about an acceptance were interviewed before 11/21. has there been anyone since????
 
ugh i know it's pretty much hopeless at this point, but i'm REALLY dying for an II here... come on nyu!! 🙁 how much love do i need to give you?

I spoke with someone from admissions today - they said they still have a few slots available for next week. Slim chances, but we still have some hope!
 
eeep. i sent them an in the area email. it's super late / on short notice but at this point, i have nothing to lose 🙁
 
Does NYU give out "silent rejections"? It's pretty rude that they haven't given the rest of us any closure. I guess after January 27th, I can consider NYU to have rejected me.

Why do people think "in the area" requests are O.K.? If I were an ADCOM member, I would be SO put off. Don't make assumptions about how great you are because you have "decent stats".

With all due respect, I think you are very off base.

Adcoms understand that the interview process can be very expensive and interviews can conflict with other significant engagements. If they were going to, in all likelihood, give an applicant an interview, they will try, if they can, to accommodate. This is evidenced by the fact that MANY people receive positive responses to their requests

Also, you make the assumption that people are "assuming" they are great. Most people who make in the area requests, especially successful ones, make it clear in their request that they do not feel entitled and would appreciate the consideration IF they were going to be invited to an interview anyway.

From NYU's twitter: "You may email the admissions office if you are going to be in the NYC area. Please include your ID and the dates that you will be here."
 
So I'm pretty much set on going to NYU at this point. Anyone else?

I can't wait till August!
 
I'm set on it too. Now I'm just waiting to see if they want me back... :scared:

In last year's thread a couple people posted that they received acceptances around this time. Maybe they'll have some more coming soon?
 
I interviewed in the last week of October and still no word from NYU! I'm getting sadder and sadder as each day passes. Anyone else in the same boat? My status has been Final Decision Pending for the longest time........I wish they'd just let me know if I was rejected.

Early November for me.. I have no idea what's going on. I don't think their admissions are truly rolling, since it appears that no one has been accepted since that first big round in mid-December. If someone has been accepted in January, let us know! I'm thinking that there will be a second round of acceptances after interviews finish. I don't know though. 😕

Please do correct me if I'm wrong! I just think that it's potentially unfair for applicants at schools with rolling admissions. What if I live in NYC and NYU is about to send me an II, then Joe Schmoe from Alaska calls up and gets my early spot instead?

NYU interviews almost a 1,000 students and probably accommodates a limited number of students. I doubt anyone's chances are materially affected.

I don't think the OP was feeling entitled. I admit I have had similar ponderings before and I really don't have an answer as to whether or not it is fair. The problem is if two people are equally qualified, but one is farther away geographically, then they have the option to send an in-the-area e-mail. The other person does not have that option unless they want to look entitled. That said, I think generally schools will not use in the area e-mails to bump someone off an interview list, but rather it just gets a sooner invite that would have come anyways.

Speaking as someone who had to pay for rearranging cross-country flights several times, I don't think this is unfair at all. They won't "bump" someone else off who would have gotten the invite before. It's just to help with people who are juggling a lot of flights (and flight costs, eeeeep).

I completely understand that part as I have a lot of friends in that type of situation. At the same time, I can't say it is fair that people who live closer to a school should have less flexibility in scheduling an interview purely because they are closer. I mean in all honesty, how I might travel to a school played a small part in the decisions I made about which schools I applied to. In any event, I'm fine with it; it may be unfair but I do think it is a kind thing to do regardless and not something I would ever argue against.

I've been fairly fortunate 🙂 Although that said, the reason for that is also my tip to frequent flyers (perhaps coming a bit late...): miles. Take advantage of them. I've been able to use them for a flight to/from the midwest and many train trips up and down the east coast. They've saved me (and my family) at least 75% of my travel costs this application cycle. If you have a credit history, 50k miles can be yours for a little bit of time after a year to cancel that airline miles card. That's two domestic roundtrips right there. Although perhaps I am now going too off-topic...PM me if you have questions in that case.
 
Anyone volunteer to call admissions and ask when the next round of acceptances is going out?
 
Primary and secondary June/July OOS no news--still under review. What does a guy have to do to get some attention NYU?!
 
I cannot think of a single reason why NYU could not have the courtesy to send a pre-interview rejection once they had stopped giving out IIs.
 
Had my interview today and I was told that we were the last group to be interviewed. They told us we would have decision by March 1. They also made it clear that just because we were interviewed late that there were still spots left.
 
He didn't say how many spots but told us all to relax. Easy for him to say that!
 
Pretty disappointed NYU didn't respond at all.
 
^ i agree. and if they are out of interview slots, at least they can notify the rest of us for the money we paid and the time we waited.
 
i'm really disappointed because i sent nyu updates, an in the area notice, and repeatedly told them that i loved them/ they were my top choice. and i don't even get the courtesy of them rejecting me (yet at least) on my app or notifying me. i literally was checking my email first thing every morning before i got out of bed this past week, hoping that nyu would invite me up. even on the 26th (the day before the last interview date), i was still waiting because i would get my butt up to nyu in a heartbeat if i got the II.

NOPE.
 
Several schools have stopped interviewing and have yet to send out rejection emails (including a few schools that I'm still waiting on). At least NYU lets you know when they stop interviewing, as opposed to hearing it from a med student on sdn. They're probably swamped deciding who to accept after the first batch and will send out emails for everyone soon...
