2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know the status of George Washington (GW) Psy.D. interviews? I called today and the person who answered the phone said all interview offers had already gone out. I asked if that meant I was getting bad news (since I've heard nothing), and she repeated what she had already said. Obviously, I can read between the lines, but confirmation either way would be helpful. Has anyone heard negatively from GW?

For UNC i emailed the department and they let me know that all applicants had been notified for an interview. A few days later i checked my application and it said I had been rejected.
I did not receive an invite or rejection per applyyourself for UNC. Thoughts?

Having done my undergrad at unc, I can tell you if you are not invited to interview it is EXTREMELY (as in it doesn't happen but I don't to squash hopes) unlikely to be admitted. I've never heard of them doing more interviews. Sorry guys, that's why we troll the forums, to know when to scratch schools off.. I'd strongly recommend doing that

Also, I used to have an application checklist when I logged into the Fordham VIP page but it's not there anymore and I haven't heard from them. Fordham's my top pick but should I just assume rejection at this point? =/

From what I've been told by faculty, Fordham sent all their invites out in one mass email, I'm not sure why some ppl were told otherwise. Sorry 🙁

Very strange... I was told yesterday that they were in the process of sending out invites...

QWERTYABCD3, I talked to the secretary and she said all offers will have been extended by today. I haven't heard either way, but I am guessing that means if we haven't gotten one then we are out of luck. I am not sure if they do a second round of interviews.

This is my second year applying. Last year I had several interviews, one wait list and one acceptance.

I turned down the acceptance.

This year, I have had zero invites. And this comes with more research experience, a much improved LOR, a publication, and 4 presentations.

It's January 31st. I'm going to go ahead and consider myself officially rejected all programs.

You sure you're out? I got an invite or two in February for some programs with late deadlines. Including one program that kept calling the wrong phone number...and only figured it out 2 weeks later. Also check your spam folder.

I did not either, there is no decision link within my application. Most likely, they have not all been updated yet. It helps to think I might at least have a chance at a wait listing though! Let me know if a link goes up in your app or if you hear anything 🙂

I at first thought, "Great, I'm still alive!" But does "no final decisions have been made" refer to interview invites only or to admission decisions?

I framed my question in terms of figuring out if all the invites were sent, so I would hope that it meant that not all have been yet. From the people I know who have gotten invites, it has been one professor who contacted people relatively quickly. I definitely re-read the e-mail too, because I had your same thoughts; however, I think that they are still waiting on some professors to make their decisions.

Hey has anyone heard from U at Albany? I spoke with someone in the office a couple weeks ago who said that apps were still being processed and interviews will be early March. Anyone hear back? Got rejected (aka havent heard back) from 4 schools. Even though I considered myself a pretty good candidate I kind of expected it.. but it doesn't make it any less painful!

I just e-mailed the Director of the Clinical Program at GW about PhD interviews and this is what he said:

We had a record number of applications this year, so we are still finishing our first round of reviews. We should be letting people know in the next few days about interviews, which we plan to schedule for the end of February.

So there's hope!

Hi all I got an interview to Lehigh University Counseling Psychology PhD today by email. The letter was attached to the email, interview is February 20th.

Personal email from Coordinator, Department of Psychology on 1/19/2012

Is the person who got an interview invite for Spalding University's PsyD program on TGC on here? And if they are, would you mind letting me know if it was a personalized e-mail or a mass e-mail that your received for your interview! Congrats on your interview!!!

I got a personalized email from Elizabeth Simpson 1/25 for an interview Feb 17th. 🙂

I'm fairly certain. All of my deadlines were December 1 or December 15.

I don't have a spam folder, so no hope there. Plus, almost all of my sites have shown up on here. I guess there is always hope, but I'm doubtful.

I'm not sure it will be easy to forgive myself for turning down the one school last year.

Hey, does anyone in this forum claim the TGC interview to University of Kansas Clinical PhD? If so, please PM me your POI..(and Congrats!)

This was asked a number of days ago, and someone in the counseling program said that they would be meeting today and extending invites I think starting tomorrow. However, I'm not sure if they were referencing invites for the clinical or counseling program. That being said, I had some issues with my application in December, and spoke to someone there. They said the committee wouldn't be meeting until "the last week of January."

I'm in a similar situation. I rated for four interviews last year, and was waitlisted twice. Now I'm a stronger candidate, and haven't received one invite, with most of my schools having extended them already. Note though, that my earliest invite last year came at about this time, and some came weeks later. You might be still alive.

I spent nearly all day checking TGC and SDN for Umass Boston invites which were due today. They have not been extended yet, or am I mistaken???:scared:

I think the original e-mail said that interviewees would be contacted after January 31. Don't fret till tomorrow 🙂

Heyyo!
Lucky to say I got another interview.

University of Colorado, Denver
Clinical Health Psychology
Email from POI on 01/31
Interview days: 02/17 or 03/02

*Still no word from U of Alabama-Birmingham, U of Houston, and Washington State?

I posted about the UAlbany counseling psych doctoral interviews a few days ago. I'm a student in the program and last I heard from faculty (last Friday) they were going to make final decisions on interview invitees at the faculty meeting (which should have happened this morning) which means phone calls for interview invites will likely happen this week. Interviews are on Feb 24th and Feb 27th.

Here's hoping.

To the school psychology applicants out there (minority I know), anyone hear anything from the university of Maryland school psychology phd program?

Some of the updates on this site are so wrong and misleading.

I called New Mexico State University, they are still reviewing applications. (COUN PSY)

I'm the one who posted about an interview at NMSU. They may very well be still reviewing applications, but I was invited to the interview--how is that wrong or misleading?

Hi, I've never posted before, but I've been reading these posts for a while now. 🙂
I thought I saw someone post on here that they heard back from CW Post, and I noticed on the gradcafe that someone posted that they heard back. I was wondering if the person who got an interview would mind posting or messaging me about when they submitted their application. I'm a little surprised that I wouldn't get an interview there, and I'm wondering if I haven't heard back yet because I submitted my application very close to the deadline.

Sigh, time to cross off my top choice.

I emailed the head of the Rutgers Clinical Psych PhD program. He indicated that all interview invites had been sent out.

And for the record (there's been a lot of talk about number of years applying): This is my third time, i did 12 apps every time. In the meantime, i got an MA from a well regarded MA program, first authored 4 papers, had a masters GPA of 3.93, high GRE's (760Q, 600V, 4.5W) and have banging LOR. I've gotten 1 invite this time, it will be the first interview I've ever been to (i've had a few phone ones)...

My point is, this is a really difficult process, but I've spoken to plenty of people on the other side who tell me it's worth it. Hang in there and try to keep your head up and just be open to options. I'm interviewing at a Health Psychology program at East Carolina, not at all what I expected to do, but what sounds like a good fit.

Getting a Master's is also an awesome awesome option for those of you who are coming out of undergrad. It will really give you a taste of what it will be like in a PhD with a little less pressure. Plus I hear (hopefully) quite a few courses will transfer.

Have fun and good luck 🙂

I havn't heard either but got an email that said that the interviews were an ongoing process over the next two weeks. So I wouldn't worry. We still have more waiting! I know, it's torture!

Yeah, I was wondering if this was referencing the counseling or the clinical interview invites. I gather it's for the counseling program.

Has still no one heard from UVA Curry?

I still haven't heard anything from UVA Curry....the website says that invites would be extended in January (interview dates are supposed to be Feb 17th and 24th I think), but no one seems to have heard either way....

:scared: nerves!

No, I haven't heard, either. I heard from a grad student on the 16th that invites would be extended "within the next two weeks".. so I sort of assumed that they would be out by now. I haven't seen anyone post an invite on here or TGC.

I really thought that yesterday would be the day, but, yeah, I didn't see anything on here or TGC either (and I was monitoring it like crazy!). Have you been in touch with the grad student throughout the process?

Are you all talking about the combined program at UVA or clinical? I havn't heard anything from the combined program and havn't seen anything posted. But it had a very early deadline, as I recall........

We're talking about the combined program. And yes, the deadline was December 15th!

Hi all. I heard from Lehigh on their Counseling Doctoral Program on 1/31 for a 2/20 interview.

Schools I am still waiting to hear from for Counseling:

Teacher's College, Columbia (I've read on here that people have been e-mailed for interviews)
NYU Steinhardt (I've read on here that people have been e-mailed for interviews)
Louisville U (I've read on here that people have been e-mailed for interviews)
Southern Illinois U Carbondale (I've read on here that people have been e-mailed for interviews)
Colorado State (haven't seen anything on here about it)
Boston College (haven't seen anything on here about it)

Bah - So it's not such good news if I haven't heard from those first four schools, is it? Thanks guys =/

You're going to want to check the front page of this thread. That's where all the invitations are archived (by program type) so you can see definitively if someone has reported (via PM) an invite. I'm pretty sure Boston College has sent out invites too. 🙁 Keep your chin up though! It only takes one.

Anyone else get a "status update" email today from University of Missouri - Kansas City? It was framed as not an invite but not a rejection.

Anyone heard from University of Arizona or University of New Mexico Clinical yet? Haven't seen either really mentioned here or on GSC.....

Got an e-mail from University of Missouri- Kansas City- Clinical PhD Program.
All interviews have been sent out to applicants and if you have not recieved one, you may still be contacted in the future. Another email will go out when the entire process has been completed.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it - That first page is super helpful. I have to admit it's a little hard to keep my chin up with those potential (possibly definite) stats. 🙁 Has Boston College sent invites out? I do see that on the front page. That's strange - I actually called them to see yesterday, and they said applicants would first hear mid February, but maybe the girl on the phone actually meant applicants who were rejected would hear mid February.

Man, that's a lot of pressure for one interview. I guess there's still Colorado.

I received an invite today to University at Albany via phone call. The interview dates are Feb 24th or 27th. This is for the Counseling Psychology program. 😍

I called Ferkauf yesterday and I was told they are not done with interview invites. And, they have multiple interview dates in February. Does anyone else want to take a shot and confirm this?
