For at least the past 3 years, Houston hasn't sent invites until the 1st week of February for interviews late in February or March

I received an interview invitation from SMU on Friday 1/13 from an admissions committee member. The interview is on 2/18.

Hey all, This appears to be a very stressful time for everyone. I think it is best to take what is posted on here with a grain of salt. One POI might call their interviewees 2 weeks before another. With that being said, I received an invitation for an interview.

The University of Miami (Florida)
Contacted by the POI via phone
Very short, informal set of questions
Interview weekend is Feb 9th to 11th.
Would mind PMing me your POI?

Me too! I had one yesterday that was about 45 minutes. One thing I didn't expect is how much the POI does the talking. It takes some pressure off though, and it makes it easier to ask your questions later. They want to know why you're interested in their research, in less formal terms. My POI also asked me if I'd be comfortable with the weather in that state (since it would be a big move for me). Make sure you have a lotta questions to ask them too, and read some of their studies so you can show that you understand their lingo.
I've had 2 pre-phone interviews. Both were about an hour. The first one was a bit more free-flowing than I expected. The POI actually asked some questions about things I put in my statement of interest, wanted to know what my ultimate career goal was (although it's stated in my application, I'm a non-traditional student so I think he just wanted to make sure), and then we talked a while about my interests and how that might fit in with his lab (I had originally named 3 potential POIs). Early on, though, he asked me what questions I might have, so the conversation became much less structured than I thought it would be. I think he was very interested in getting a sense of who I was personally, so a fair number of questions were more personal (what do I like to do for fun, how would I describe myself, etc.). The second phone interview was a little more formal, with the POI asking more questions. Again the focus was on my research interests, my goals, and what he was working on currently. Definitely have some questions prepared - mine usually focused on current projects, how much collaboration goes on in the program/lab, and other stuff that came up while we're talking. Oh, and both POIs asked where else I was applying.

Someone posted a rejection from Nebraska-Lincoln on TGC. (mass I believe)

I didn't get an interview invite, but also didn't get a rejection? Anyone know what this is about?

Also, I am an undergraduate at Marquette University.

Heard from my professor that I work with that they aren't meeting to start reviewing applications for the clinical program until next week. So don't expect any invites for probably a week and a half or two!

i saw notre dame was posted on the first page, but i didn't find an individual post. would you be comfortable PMing me your POI? thanks & congrats!

Just got an email from POI in Utah for a pre-interview talk.

What do you usually discuss about during these pre-interview talks?? Also she didn't mention if this was a phone or Skype discussion...do the others that got contacted by Utah POIs have more insight into what to expect?

I also just received an email from my POI at University of Utah wanting to schedule pre-interview via phone, so all hope is not lost if you are still waiting to hear from Utah! Good luck, everyone! 🙂

Ditto re: it would be GREAT if the lucky Vanderbilt invitee could PM me his/her POI. Thanks, and congrats!!

Can the person with the Vanderbilt invite PM me his/her POI as well? And of course, congratulations!!! 😀

I didn't get an interview invite, but also didn't get a rejection? Anyone know what this is about?

I answered my own question by e-mailing someone.

Response:

"You are part of our "round two" group. What that essentially means is we are interested in your application however there are others who we have invited to interview. I will update you on the status of your application as offers are extended and spots either fill up or become available. I wish I could be more helpful but this is really all I know at this moment. Thanks"

"Round two group"? Basically wait-listed?

Me either! I wish I knew! Though, I applied to the psych/law program so maybe that accounts for being in limbo...?

Does anyone know if it's a good idea to stay with grad students during interview weekend?

I apologize, the post about sending them out by the 19th was for George Mason.

Thanks for contacting! I wonder if this applies to law/psych applicants as well. I suppose I could email the coordinator but I always feel bad hounding for answers. :-( Oh well... I'll take limbo over a rejection any day.

If you read through the forum, there's a few posts on this topic. I think the consensus is 'yes' because it means that the department (i.e. a grad student) has more opportunities to get to know you.

I know, I felt bad for inquiring, but Jamie Longwell opened himself up for questions in his e-mail. 🙂

Limbo is a crazy place to be in! (at least it is making me crazy)

Simply, it depends.

For me personally, I will be taking advantage of it to maximize my exposure to everyone, get a better feel for the program, and save some cash while doing so. Conversely, I could see how you may feel like you are never not in an interview, and may just want your own space for a while.

Hey guys. I know Drexel has been brought up on here a few times already but its not over. Just got a call for interview invitation from a grad student. I Applied in the neuropsych branch, not in forensic.

Thanks, I think I'm going to go with it, as well, although it is indeed somewhat uncomfortable.

I'm waiting on UNC Chapel Hill too. On their website, I *think* the info has been updated - it now says we will hear by Jan 25, where previously (a week or two ago) I think it said Jan 20. If anyone has any info about them it'd be great, though!

I'm waiting too! Keep me posted if you hear anything 🙂 Good luck!

I PMed the person who posted about Vanderbilt in this thread, but if any others also have received Vanderbilt invites, I would really appreciate a PM as well (with POI information). Thank you so so much and congratulations!!

I didn't see a post about Vanderbilt Clinical but if someone did post that they had an interview, can you send me your POI too please?? Thanks 🙂

For everyone keeping score 🙂 Emory Clinical Psych just hit TGC. Phone call invite to interview. Congratulations! Also if you are out here, can the person who received the call PM me their POI? Thanks!

I would love this info too! Thanks and congrats 🙂

I would also like to know POI info for Emory, and if more invites will come!

Has anyone heard from Auburn yet? The wait is killing me!

Also, I know some people were wondering about Michigan, I got my rejection email this morning (clinical).

Do all schools send out rejection emails, or do they let you wonder forever?

I applied to Auburn too. No news here. I don't think we'll be hearing from then until next week though - just based on their past history.

And to answer your other question, yes, all schools are supposed to send out rejections but the things is that most of them don't formally reject people until months after they have already done interviews.

I know this has been requested several times already, but could the person (people?) with the Kent St. clinical interview and people with NIU clinical interviews PM me your POI? Thanks in advance, and congrats!

Just saw UT Austin go up on the list, email from POI on 1/13?

I would LOVE if whoever this was could PM me their POI!

Oh, the craziness has begun...

Last year, someone got an invite Jan 20th to interview on the 19th of February. It seems they send out rejections via e-mail around the same time, which is certainly better than being left in the dark and receive a letter in March...

That's both good and bad. I figured I would get most of my emails this week so I have been checking my phone non-stop.

Auburn and LSU are my top 2 choices so I have to keep reminding myself that LSU's deadline was Sunday, it's getting rough though.

I would like to know this too!

Samesies! When I last spoke to their clinical admin person late last week, several of the professors hadn't begun reviewing applications yet, so this is news to me...so, yeah, if you've been emailed re: an interview at UT Austin, I'd be very grateful for a PM with your POI!

School: Drexel
Interview: 2/10 or 2/20
Notification: Call from POI (Dematteo)

Has anyone heard anything from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill? I read they were suppose to start calling today, but have not seen anything.

It says on their website that everyone will be notified by the 25th. Just wondering - where did you see that they start calling today?

That was my error, it was Emory that began contacting today 🙂 Sorry it gets a bit confusing when you have applied for 18 programs.

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on interview invites from Miami University in Ohio? It would be appreciated. Thanks!

ooo man if I got this email I would have been freaking out they make it seem so positive and then pull the reins back in on you. I guess a lesson to learn is keep a level head when reading emails.

for UMich

But yeah, here was the waitlist email:

The Graduate Program in Psychology at the University of Michigan congratulates you on your outstanding academic achievements to date! You are among our top candidates for admission for the Fall of 2012. The quality of this year's applications was unusually high, reflecting the Department's standing as one of the nation's best Psychology graduate programs. Even so, your credentials stood out within this highly competitive pool of over 700 applicants. Congratulations!

Because of budgetary issues, however, we have been forced to be more cautious than usual with our admissions. As a result, your application is currently on our waitlist.

I know this situation is less than ideal. We continue to wait for the latest funding updates. It will likely be late in March before we will have additional information for you. Please feel free to contact me with questions in the meantime.

We hope you are still interested in our Department's program, and will wait to hear from us again before making the decision to attend another program. We will be in touch as soon as possible!
