2011-2012 Psychology PhD/PsyD Interview Invite thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone here receive a rejection e-mail from UCSD/SDSU?? I just saw this on TGC:

University Of California San DiegoClinical Psychology, PhD (F12)Rejected via E-mail on 18 Jan 2012 27 Jan 2012

I don't wanna get excited about not getting a rejection if this is fake...

I have reason to believe the post might be fake. Because I applied to SDSU/UCSD too, but there was a problem with my graduate transcripts...so my application was not even reviewed by the clinical psyc joint program faculty. So if they sent mass email rejections, I should have received one too. But I have nothing.

I would be careful with interpreting that unless they gave more information. They may have called admissions and received some kind of notice regarding their status or others' status that they summed up to be rejection.

I know that we have discussed for a while the possibility of applying multiple years and how it gets better each year.. but I had a question..

I know where some of my faults in my application may be (GREs) for one. But I do already have two publications accepted.. likely in press before May and will be able to submit two more by May. I have 4 posters at large conferences and there year I am conducting a workshop and have another poster already accepted.

I am coming from a small school without opportunity for paid research positions.. do the people who wait multiple years have research positions? I think I am worried about support for the next year while waiting to apply again.. I'm concerned if I have to get a non-research related job that it will reflect poorly on me from going from a very motivated researcher to having to make a living. I also don't have the most amazing relationship with my advisor so I am not going to stick around where I am for another year.. especially when I can save rent money and live with my parents (if it's the only option).

Is there a point where people pick different professions? Has anyone considered a masters in counselor ed? (that wouldn't work for me because I want to do research.. however even I have thought about moving on with my life)

Hey! Someone posted on TGC that they have an interview with New Mexico. Has anyone here gotten an interview there? If so, could you please message me your POI? Thanks so much, and good luck to everyone!! 🙂

Thanks for the heads up. I had a feeling it was fake, but wanted to check anyway.

clawless23, Congrats! Was your e-mail a general mass e-mail for the invite or was it a personalized e-mail?

all invites have been extended for PhD/PsyD applicants already?
My understanding is that if invited for PhD, the invitations have gone out. However, it appears that if one is invited for PsyD only (regradless of whether one applied for PhD also or not), these have not been sent out. This comes from emails I have had with a clinical PhD student.

Well, suffice it to say that some of us are well past the point of being able to take on a full-time research position (when one becomes available) and/or live with our parents--if taking a job (even...GASP...a clinical one!) in order to make a living is looked down upon, then so many of us are screwed. And, quite frankly, if that is reflected poorly, I don't want to be a part of such a profession.

Thank you! It was a personlized email from the director of admissions. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!

Hey! Someone posted on TGC that they have an interview with New Mexico. Has anyone here gotten an interview there? If so, could you please message me your POI? Thanks so much, and good luck to everyone!! 🙂

I second that! New Mexico is my top choice. Did you get the POI?

Has anyone heard from the following schools:
New Mexico
Missouri Kansas City (counseling)
St. John's University (clinical)
C.W. Post of LIU (PsyD)
Marquette
DePaul
Missouri St. Louis (clinical)

I have 2 interviews next month (UVM and VCU - both clinical, and I am beginning to think that those are the only bites I'm gonna get...)

I spoke to someone from St. John's Clinical yesterday-- they are just doing the initial screening of apps, the apps haven't even gone to specific faculty yet. There will be 2 interview days in March, one on March 6 and one later in March. So don't give up hope on that one!

I want to know too!! I dont understand how there was a posting on TGC for NM when on the last page here someone said POI's havent even begun reviewing applications?!

Maybe its just me but i am starting to find true meaning in lame pop songs such as

"Quit playing games with my heart"- Backstreet boys

"Fighter"- Christina Aguilera

and

"BYE, BYE, BYE"- Nsync

😱

University of Missouri has also just begun reviewing applications a week ago. It would probably take them sometime to send ivs. So hang in there!

When you say University of Missouri, which campus are you referring to?

In response to Nova Southeastern Inquiry:
I applied to both the PhD and PsyD program so what the user below you said makes sense that PsyD only have another interview date?

So people are saying they got Psyd interviews with Nova. I didn't get one 🙁 yet? But I got something about the registrar and all this other info. Did everyone get this? What am I supposed to do with this information?

I just called LSU and FSU. LSU said that she believes some faculty are still reviewing applications and FSU said that the rest of the invites should be out in the next few days, hopefully by the end of the month!
There's still hope!!

I'd appreciate clarification re: campus and program (counseling vs. clinical) for Missouri as well. I am waiting on Missouri-St. Louis clinical and Missouri-Kansas City counseling

Hey guys, has anyone heard anything about Northwestern (Evanston) or Wisconsin-Madison clinical programs? Seems like nothing's come out of either dept yet, just wondering if anyone's been brave enough to call or email either program 🙂

To everyone who was talking about New Mexico earlier - I just spoke to someone about their admissions department making sure all my materials had been received (there was a glitch on their status check website). Apparently my application is still in the process of being reviewed by the school (for GPA, GRE, etc.) and has not even been sent to the psych department. He said review by the admissions office would take 3-5 days, and so my application should be sent over in the next few days for review by the actual psychology department.

Still worried since I saw someone posting about an interview on grad cafe... but it sounds like no one should start to panic for another week or two at least. I think. I wasn't able to get anyone at the psych office to verify, but I might try again later.

This happened to me yesterday with Catholic U. I got a snail mail letter saying they hadn't gotten my psych GRE (after I self reported and they said that was fine a few weeks ago) and that my app was being sent to psych --- worried since they sent out a bunch of invites already - i hate technology sometimes

Anyone who applied to University of Maryland, College Park PhD check your supplemental application--found a rejection letter attached (though they did not send me any sort of email notification).

I just received an email from my POI at New Mexico requesting a phone interview. I am excited, but please note that this contradicts what I heard from the department earlier today (I was told the above as well)...so there is still much hope to be held.

Anyone heard from URI? Saw it on TGC but it didn't indicate whether or not it was a mass email or personalized via POI.

Congrats on all these interviews and keep the updates coming! I just want to thank those of you who post in the format I provided in the first post, it really makes updating A LOT easier. Here's a recent example:

School: Ryerson University (Canada)
Program type/track: Clinical Psychology PhD
Date received: 1/26
How were you notified: Email from POI
Interview dates: Schedule a mutual date with POI

Look at that. No abbreviations, includes program type, interview information. Simple and easy to update. If you get a chance, try to put your invite in this form. Makes my job a lot easier and I'm less likely to miss something.

Thanks! 🙂

Hmm, was this when you clicked the link "Check application status"? Mine is still just saying that they're reviewing my application. Was this for Clinical? I'm 99% sure I'm rejected but still curious! 🙂

Hello everyone,

While I have been terrible at posting on the student doctor network, I have been obsessive about reading post written by everyone else posts. Given that I have seen some very good suggestions, I was wondering if anyone could help with this:

I applied to 15 clinical psych programs and have not heard from a single one. I have over three years of research experience and have presented at two conferences. I have a high GPA and I did decent on the GRE.

Now the real question:

Since I applied, my abstract for a presentation at a national conference was accepted and I have been working on two papers for publication. I want to update my POIs to see if this increases my chances of interviewing but I fear that I may annoy them and it may reflect negatively on my application.

Any suggestions on how to do it and if is a good idea to e-mail them about this?

Your input is very much appreciated!

I would also like advice about this- I'm in a similar situation. I was recently awarded a grant that was not on my CV. Should I send updated CVs to my POI's?

Edited to correct a typo

apparently pitt has extended all interviews, do we have any confirmation that boston univ is done?

Just got a call inviting me to interview at the Virginia Consortium! 🙂 yay! Got the choice of two interview dates.

Anyone heard anything from Rutgers Clinical Psych? I saw someone posted they will send out invites at the end of the week but its the end of the week and i havent heard anything. 😕:scared:

Hey - I spoke to the secretary today who said the invites haven't gone out yet but they had a meeting this week so they should go out very soon. Don't know what the TGC post was about.

1. Suffolk University (Clinical PhD): personalized email receieved on 1/20 from the psychology department.

2. George Washington University (PsyD): personalized email receieved on 1/27 from the director.

HAS ANYONE HEARD FROM RUTGERS' PSYD PROGRAM? NOT THE CLINICAL PHD. THANKS.

Update about SDSU/UCSD JDP--

They are meeting today only about the Experimental Psychopathology track
The other tracks are meeting next week. So invites should be sent out if not next week then by the week after.

( I am an RA at UCSD and work directly with someone on the admissions committee)

Thanks for this information, I had been trying to get in touch with someone over there with no luck. With an interview date of 2/13, I imagine invites are coming soon.

I just got an interview invite from University of Missouri - St. Louis! They're one of my top choices, so I'm really excited 🙂

It was a call from the program director, not my POI, so it sounds like they might be sending out invites through the program as a whole and not a specific lab.

Just received an email from my POI at the University of Massachusetts-Boston Clinical Program to schedule a phone interview early next week. This is probably to decide if an invitation to the in-person interview will be extended to me, since previous emails said we wouldn't hear back until after 1/31.

Drats! Mass email = No luck for me. I guess this saves me the worry of choosing between two interview dates.

Congrats on your invite though 🙂!

It seems like people just like to screw around with you ... that or the secretaries don't know what's up. Thanks for the update though!
