Anyone else feel like these are some of the most difficult questions. Usually I feel I can cut and paste at least a little bit from old essays, but not for this one. I'm working through them, but they are pretty different.

yea it took me a few weeks to get this in
you could try setting aside a day or two to brainstorm some answers to the prompts, then write it all out. rest a day then come back and edit all of your sentences so you can submit it in a timely manner. this is a great school so it's definitely worth the time to submit an application.

👍 exactly, +1. I definitely took some time between drafting and editing, to make sure I said everything I wanted to say AND say it in the best way (succinct + clear).

ya it is, if you looked at last thread everybody looked like it took about a month. i submitted 7/25 and got complete email 8/28 so probably you'll hear fairly soon...

+1 exactly how i feel. also because it's my very last secondary so of course i'm taking the longest on it haha

i applied last cycle to stony, and i totally blew off this secondary. i looked at the questions and decided not to apply in august because i was so burnt out. then in december, i was starting to regret my decision so i pumped it out on December 30th (the day it was due ha) and submitted it. i got an interview invite about 3 weeks later for march, and got accepted in may. so i guess if you apply very very very late in the cycle, it can still work out!
my advice: DON'T DO THAT haha. it's an annoying few questions, but just set aside an afternoon/evening to do it and don't give yourself an ulcer like i did

I am re-applying to Stony Brook.
I want to re-write each of the three secondary essays:
Do you think they will look at my old responses in addition to the new ones?
and if I write a new response to "the most intriguing aspect of medicine" would it weaken my new essay to know that last fall, a different aspect of medicine was most intriguing to me?

Sooo does anyone have any idea how this interview day works? All I got was a confirmation email saying that the time of the two interviews will be sent a week later. They also mentioned dietary restrictions..... soooo is this a comprehensive day or two separate interviews and a lunch?

HAHA that was my exact thought... Best NYS school. ...
I did look at last years thread and they said they didn't let them know until the 21st... because the ADCOM was out of town. haha. anyways goodluck!!

I personally would not hodl that agaisnt you. afterall people change. whats intrigues you one day may not the next. personally i will write a different essay (partly because I lost my old essay and partly because i blieve my interests ahve changed).
oh and glad to hear i'm not the last one to apply..i feel so late 🙁 I will try and finish all 3 essays today!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
out of curiosity, how many people thought that question was asking about what specialties interest you or rather what general things about medicine you are interested in (such as physical exams or patient interactions). Just curious because I'm planning to answer it mostly int he form of what specialty I'm interested in.

It's like two sepearate interviews and a lunch. like One interview in the morning. then afternoon tour+questions+lunch. then another interview.

Got an invite for the MSTP interview today. MD and MSTP interviews are on the same day, 19 October. The message implied that this was one of several groups of students to be interviewed, so there may be more MD/PhD invites to be sent yet.

You will probably be interviewed twice, one might be a medical student. They will send you an e-mail telling you your two specific interview times. Last year, I got someone in the undergraduate sciences faculty and a physician in the hospital. Interview times aren't as concrete because students are fit into the interviewer's schedule. My interviewers came to the admissions office to come get me, which was awesome. I interviewed with one person for about an hour, then had lunch, tour, financial aid presentation, etc. for another hour and a half. My second interview started after that--and then I was done.

Don't worry! I submitted on 8/3, my letters were on AMCAS 8/12 and I got my compete email on 9/14, a full MONTH after I was complete. And within a few weeks of this... a wild interview appeared! 😳
