me too.....
Does anyone know if pre-interview rejections have been sent out by Stony Brook yet?
Or if they have not...does anyone when they usually send out these rejections?
Hey everyone. I was recently accepted here. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me about whether the school/students are gay friendly or not. Probably no one would say it's not the place to go if you are but in general what is the atmosphere like?
I was complete in November and still haven't heard anything...anyone else in this position?
+1complete since july....still in the dark
I was just waitlisted
Does anyone know if stony brook has a "high priority" waitlist? Or are all just clumped into one??
Has ANYONE received a "high-priority waitlist" status this year?
wow that's interesting. Any idea why schools would not give out HP waitlists until that time? It's only february. From what I remember, those went out in april.

Seems somewhat disadvantageous for everyone who interviewed earlier.
I would suppose it is to give a chance to those excellent candidates who interview late spring?

Look at the bright side, the admin says you have about a 50% chance of acceptance post interview so if it wasn't an outright rejection you are still in the running (you didn't roar to the finish line but rather are chugging along at the speed limit lol)!
Thanks~True. Heard that roughly 20% of waitlisted applicants are offered an acceptance.
The disproportionate number of applicants/people leaving Upstate for Stony Brook due to Probation, I don't really see a reasonable chance of acceptance.
Not really sure what you are referring to so I can't comment, but you are starting to sound like a pessimist. As long as there is hope keep dreaming is my opinion.
II, OOS. Anyone have any idea what time the interview day ends? I'm trying to figure out flying logistics.
congrats on the invite! mind sharing when its scheduled for and your complete date? just trying to figure out if this is the last wave or if there are a couple more invites left. thanks!
p.s. ANNNNNNN PERKINS!

Thanks! no prob, they said they interview people Tu/Th/F. I was given options from 2/23 to 3/2 and complete late October. Hope that helps.
Hey guys,
I was complete here 12/23, but still haven't heard back. I was wondering if there's still a chance I might be invited to interview? I'm an slightly below average applicant with a 3.59/33. Should I send an update letter? I would really like to go here, as it's close to home and family. If you recommend sending an e-mail, do I send it to the [email protected] address? Who do I address it to, and what should I put in the subject line?

less than two months...
it took me over three to hear from them
If you really want to go then definitely yes send an update letter...it cannot hurt at this point.. I do suggest calling them first to make sure you are not rejected (they only send these through snail mail) because you dont want to email your update and be getting your rejection letter the next day...be honest when you call and let them know you want to send in an update but would like to know if you are still in the running and they will tell you.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. I just called and they said there's still not decision on my app. I don't know if the even looked at it yet... Anyways, I'll send that e-mail. Who would you suggest I address it to?
They are ending interviews in March so its best to get this out ASAP...Send it to their email address and address the letter as such: "dear admissions committee"
Thats what I did when I sent in any update letters to schools,. anybody else think it should be addressed differently?
As the subject probably just put: Medical Applicant - Application Update Documents Attached
I was thinking it might be appropriate to address it to the assistant/dean of admissions. I was going to just put the letter in the body of the e-mail, but are you saying it should be an attachment? I will probably send this out within a day or two, so hopefully I can get some more opinions before then.
I was thinking that maybe my low writing sample score hurt me enough to preclude an interview.
.....i hope you see how that's an important skill in medicine and being bad at it might be a problem. you should definitely try to work on honing that skill
I think he was being sarcastic
no, i'm actually dead serious.
you don't really appreciate how crucial communication is until you get to third year and it's way more than just taking quick notes. there is a lot of creativity that goes into documenting patient encounters and presenting to attendings. Having to document and present a patient you have never met before is basically like writing an essay you had no prior information about. you have to communicate this patient's story in a way that is logical, succinct, thorough and maybe even compelling.
Adrdressing it the dean is fine but you have to consider it is going to the admissions committe since you are sending to the admissions email address. Also, in the email I would put something along the lines like... "I would like to update my file. Please see the attached documents..." If you want to put in the email how much you like them thats fine... but include in the letter as well.
Also, I would suggest you attach the letter and not include in the body of the email. It just makes it look more "official" and "professional" and looks better when they print it out to put into your file.
Interesting news guys.... the verdict is in: apparently the writing section does not matter (or does not matter enough)... it got axed from the MCAT starting in 2015. So there you go.
