I'm not sure if the situation is much different from last year, this is the HPWL email they sent in 2011 (from last years thread)

"I am writing to inform you of the status of your candidacy for Stony Brook University School of Medicine. You are one of a select group of individuals (High Priority List) whose candidacy generated a great deal of enthusiasm with the Committee on Admissions. However, at this point in time, we have accepted significantly more applicants than available seats. We anticipate that by May 15, 2011, some of the multiply accepted candidates may withdraw their acceptance to Stony Brook. As those seats become available, we will likely be making offers to those on the High Priority List. Please let us know by May 1st whether you are still interested in attending Stony Brook and want to be considered for the High Priority List.

Jack Fuhrer, MD
Associate Dean for Admissions
Stony Brook University School of Medicine"

Lol! They don't even bother changing the wording from year to year.
Thanks for digging this up. Gives us all a bit more hope.

Is anyone else in this boat? I interviewed back in the beginning of February and I still haven't gotten a decision from Stony Brook. I called today and they said my application is still with the committee, and I should hear by the end of May. This seems unusually late, and I can't think of what the hold up might be.
Same here. Interviewed in March, still waiting to hear heads or tails.

Does anyone know about how to register for summer classes at Stony Brook for biochemistry?

I have been getting anxious to hear so I called admissions today, they said there hasn't been any movement on the waitlist yet and that there won't be any movement until after this week. They said we would be notified when the waitlist begins to move, and it sounded like movement is likely to begin in the first week of June. I didn't want to press them for details but I think we can be optimistic that some movement will occur.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the update LD. This is a big help.

Can a current student speak about the first year schedule at Stony? I'd like to know the order of the blocks and maybe a rough idea of a weekly schedule in the first block. Thanks!

Also to a current student, preferably one who works out: Do most students who workout go to the SAC? Also I heard they recently remodeled the SAC and that the gym is a lot better now, is this true? Is it conducive to serious weightlifting?

Don't know if it's going to change for your year, but this was our schedule and don't expect it to change:

A lot of us have our own private gym memberships. The SAC can get crowded with undergraduates. The SAC has a disappointing gym in my opinion, but maybe I was spoiled by my undergraduate college. They're supposed to be opening a new recreation facility, but we'll see how much progress they make on that.

How are the rates? I'm definitely spoiled at my current location - 99$ for a year membership. The place is a bit dirty and kind of smells like a shoe, but it has tons of equipment and only gets crowded during peak times.

there are a lot of options. some gyms (nysc, la fitness) are about $50/month...others, like planet fitness, are closer to $10/month...powerhouse is another popular option, not sure what its monthly fee is.

So just making sure I understand this correctly - there is a regular wait list, and a high priority wait list? I was wait listed and I just want to make sure that there is also a high priority wait list (so I know how hopeful to be...)

It seems like being put on a regular wait list if there is, in fact, also a high priority wait list means that I should pretty much give up hope. Does that sound about right? (You can be brutally honest - I've already been admitted to a school I like, although I don't like it as much as Stony Brook).

i believe that people do get off the regular waitlist but stony brook accepts double their expected class size so they take few people off of the waitlist. a lot depends on how many applicants have multiple acceptances and what happens at other schools

I wouldn't count on getting in off the regular wait list but I also wouldn't count myself out if I was on it. Check out the last few years application threads and you will see that for at least two of the years they got through the HPWL pretty quickly and accepted people of the regular list after that. Supposedly the HPWL is pretty small.

I will be withdrawing my acceptance this week. It is really hard to say no to Stony! Good luck everyone!

Edit: Withdrew today! Best of luck to all the wait listers and accepted students. Stony Brook is truly a great school.

Current students, do you know if we have to get CPR certified on our own? I know Buffalo and Downstate requires it.

Withdrew just now. Stony Brook is a great school, with a great plan for the future. I hope everyone on the waitlist the best. I was given a scholarship, so maybe it will open for one of you as well. Since it is late, they probably won't get it until tomorrow, so hopefully in a day or two, I'll see someone come on the boards excited for getting an acceptance.

Past years didn't. I wouldn't worry about it unless it says otherwise in their summer mail correspondence with you.

I am probably over analyzing this, but I have been reading through the last three years threads and the majority of people accepted from the waitlist between May 15 and June 15 were hearing (phone and/or email) on Wednesdays, with a few on Thursdays. I don't know if this means a committee meets on these days but I am hoping that a bunch of people get offers tomorrow or next Wednesday.

It looks like in past years, the wait list had already been moving around this time, starting around the 2nd or 3rd week in May. It's much more quiet this year. It's very possible that not as many spaces have opened up. I'm not saying give up hope, but we need more info about wait list movement. Has anyone heard a thing about any movement this week? This was the anticipated week 😕

Feel exact same way. June 7th already. Hmmf.

Nothing on my end, you can always call and ask if there has been any movement but they told me we would be told when it starts to move. I have been on a lot of wait lists and i have never seen one that didn't move.

You were right. I got off the HPWL yesterday, but I decided to keep my current acceptance. Hope one of you guys gets the spot. Best of luck!

Thanks for the update good to know something is happening. I've been following the other SUNY threads and there have been acceptances at the other programs pretty regularly so I hope people are starting to withdraw from SBU

If you don't mind sharing, how were you informed of the WL decision?

I can't speak for Meg, but judging from the last few years threads it looks like a lot of people got calls and an email, some people just got an email. Also there was one person (IS) who found out about being accepted from snail mail, but I don't remember if they were waitlist or not. So this information is probably unhelpful, just check everything.

I got accepted off the HPWL last Wednesday and decided to accept and go to Stony! I got a call in the early afternoon from Ms. Agnetti and then an email later in the day. There are about 120 member on the Stony Brook SOM Class of 2016 facebook group and there seemed to be a lot of students at pre-orientation. Hopefully there are still some spots left and some people still getting accepted into other schools and will withdraw. Best of luck to everyone. I know the waitlist sucks but try to stay positive!

Can you post a link to this facebook group? Thank you!

A lot of them are Class of 2015 making an effort to get connected with first years--don't sweat the group's enrollment size, enjoy your summer or you'll regret it.

Did anyone else get calls from admissions? They called me to ask me to clarify something on my application, I am not sure if this is a good thing or not but it sounds like they are at least reviewing applications.

Not yet but man that must be terrible~

Getting a call from SB, anticipating good news. And only hearing them ask a question.

Haha I'm jealous! That must be a good sign that they called u to ask about something. I really really hope to get into SB too. Good luck!

I got accepted off the HPWL this morning! Stay optimistic everyone!

Thanks! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you all. I'm not sure where they stand now but I was told they had about 70 at pre-orientation earlier so maybe that is a good sign

LieutenantDan, Congrats!

Just wondering...about what time did you hear from Stony Brook about your acceptance off of the HPWL? And was it via email?

So here's the thing, I am thinking that they still try to contact people on Wednesday as I got a phone call on Wed trying to clarify some things on my application. The committee was given this information and they must have made their decision Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

I got an email on Thursday morning (6:16 PST, or 9:16 EST) telling me to call them because they had news for me, so that is how I found out.

Hope this helps and good luck, I know how fun it is to be waitlisted.

Oh I forgot to mention, they called me at noon PST, so 3 pm EST on Wednesday.

Do we still have others waiting to hear WL results?
