another question: So what unique qualities does Temple have that would make me want to go there as opposed to other med schools in Penn?

Has temple rejected anyone pre interview, or do they wait till wayy later?

Last year, no one posted about rejections until the end of the cycle. I also don't think Temple outright rejects people post-interview, though there are plenty of people that don't get off the WL.

interview invite today!

for current med students, i am interviewing at drexel next week and i booked my flight already. if i change my flight, i can arrive at PHL at 10 pm next tues for the interview on wed. do you think this will be too late for student hosts? thanks in advance

I just got my first invite today for St Lukes!! Woo!

Congrats on the interview invites!

I had my interview today at St. Luke's. The educational facilities are relatively new (they're still installing some stuff in the rooms) and staff does a thorough job in describing the benefits of studying medicine at St. Luke's Hospital.

The interviews, as other Temple interviews people have talked about, are in a stress-free environment. Good luck to all you guys!

I got it yesterday morning too (for St. Luke's). I was verified 8/17 and completed 9/27. That was a crazy turnaround of 7 days. First interview too! Scheduled for 11/1.

Interview yesterday at St. Luke's was great! The staff seemed really excited to be expanding the program up there, and the current students talked about how many opportunities there were for medical students to see and work on cases because of the small class size.

I interviewed with the Dean and a fourth year student. The interview with the dean was pretty relaxed, a couple times I wasn't sure where he was going with questions, but the only one that threw me for a loop was "If you could do anything different in your undergraduate career, what would it be?"

I was a psych major, but I don't regret that, so I just said taking Spanish instead of German, and doing a collegiate sport.

The interview with the student was actually just a really nice conversation. Great school, and I'm hoping to hear something positive in November, when they said they would be sending out the first acceptances.

Research opportunities? Paid fellowships? If so, how selective are they?
I've heard some people in my class talk about research but I don't know exactly what they're doing. I know there's some study or another going on pertaining to MRSA, but beyond that, I got nothing. I believe most of the upper floors in the new building are research labs but as a first year, I haven't
looked into any of it yet, really.

Anybody else know about research at Temple? How easy is it to be involved in research as a med student here? Are there structured programs for research (i.e. fellowships, etc.), or do we have to take it upon ourselves to find research opportunities? also, how does basic science research compare to clinical research with respect to funding and recognition?

sorry for the overload, but any and all responses are greatly appreciated!

Apparently Temple is trying to start pushing research at the hospitals and the university (the docs all got letters about this). Until now, research hasn't been a big focus at Temple, but it doesn't mean that there is no opportunity for it. At my interview, I was told that you can basically work with whoever you want (in terms of PIs) because no one will turn a med student down.

As for your other questions, I don't know. I got the feeling that there's not too much else going on right now, but that might change in the next few years.

Temple and Philly were amazing. I think what I loved most about the school were the students the most; they were fun and kind. :xf:

Wow, that's super fast. They must have seen something in your application that they really liked. Good luck!

Finished my interviews here a few hours ago and I really, really loved the school. Everyone was awesome, students were really happy and friendly. My interviewer was very nice. I was a little uncomfortable when he asked about what other interviews I had, but besides that it was awesome. Great school 🙂 hope for some good news around the 15th!:xf:

in terms of scheduling the interview, i see that it shows available slots over next few weeks (tu/wed/thu) and seems to naturally roll through the weeks, does that mean that If I just sit and wait until December comes around I can schedule my interview for then even though I got the invite a week ago?

lol.
still under review.
for those who interviewed, how was it?

Why would you wait? Isn't this school rolling admissions?

Getting an interview at Drexel gave me a little confidence boost so I submitted my secondary tonight. Who knows what will happen. I know it's a little late but whatevs 🙂 Good luck everyone.

There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in research if you really want to, although I could honestly not imagine fitting it in during the year. Summer is when most people get involved, and I've heard it's pretty easy to get involved w/ something. Lot of stuff going on... just have to ask.

Sent in an in-the-area email but no response from the adcom. Anyone else have this experience?

I sent one and got a short response that if it's possible they'll be in touch. They answered within a day, but I sent it on a weekday. Maybe they are just busy, and they will answer when they get around to it. How long has it been?

It took them a while to answer mine, I think they're very bogged down at the moment. It was a "if we can, we'll let you know" type response.

anybody use public transportation (i.e. bus/rail) to get to Temple from Skyview Plaza hotel (or anybody know about the public transportation enough to recommend/discourage it)? long shot question, but just thought I'd throw it out there...

interviewing this tuesday btw.

I got the "we'll let you know" response as well. I'm sorry I should have been more explicit. I meant has anyone gotten a "Sorry can't do it" or "Come on over".

I got an II, but I honestly don't feel like the in-the-area letter had anything to do with it whatsoever.

II today!
I also sent an in the area email a little over a week ago and got a generic response. I'm not sure if the email helped but I was happy to find that I was able to schedule my interview on the precise days that I requested so I guess they did take it into account!
good luck everyone!!

For those who have sent updates/in the area information, did you use email or the Send Us Stuff part of the web status screen? Did anyone get a response using the latter?

I just emailed them directly

II!! does anyone know if it's possible to get from NYC to Temple the morning of the interview?

Sorry if this has been answered but does anyone know when temple will start informing students of their decisions?

Definitely possible. I went to my Drexel interview last year the morning of, and it started a lot earlier. Give yourself 3 hours to get there and you'll be fine.

just interviewed this tuesday and they said late October (i.e. in a couple of weeks).

the interview was pretty nice...awesome new building; students are happy and non-competitive environment; anatomy lab is absolutely baller...no cafeteria though, but I wouldn't worry about that cuz there are restuarants and food carts everywhere!

There is a small cafeteria. Einstein Bros. has good coffee (bring your own thermos and it's cheaper) and yummy breakfast sandwiches, but it's a little overpriced, IMO. The Dos Manos Burritos place is really good. It's like $6-7 for a burrito but it's a pretty big one (hence Dos Manos, you need 2 hands). I've never gotten anything from the third place. The biggest problem with the cafeteria, IMO, is that it doesn't open until 8 and that's when lectures start. :/

But you are right, there are a few cafeterias across the street in the hospital (I like the one on the lower level not far from the scrubs exchange), and lots of food carts. There's one across the street that'll actually give you a really good, big fruit plate for a good price (I hear good things about their smoothies, too, but I haven't tried one yet) and the orange food truck that parks right in front of the entrance is really good, too.

BTW, guys, Temple's kinda sneaky about giving decisions. IIRC, they usually go out on Fridays but sometimes they delay them until right before a holiday. You'll see that if you go through last year's thread. Good luck!

When I was there, they said that if our file went through committee before the 15th, then we should be notified on the 15th (or possibly Monday if they don't want to release decisions on a weekend). Their committee meetings occur every other Friday, and I was one of the first batch of applicants to interview.

I was looking through last years thread and it seems like "correspondence sent" was code word for waitlist. I checked my status around 8:45pm Arizona time (11:45 eastern) and I had that. I'm not sure when it appeared, but is it possible they waitlisted me before October 15th?

I'm a little disappointed because I thought my interview went really well...

Won't it be awesome to hear back on Monday? Well, as long as its an acceptance. I had a griller interview with Dr. Kozera and I expect a waitlist because I was tied up in a couple of weird questions. But, it'll still be good to know that instincts after the interview correlate with the actual response.

I int'ed 10/11 and I'm at:
Explanation for: Interview Complete
Your application is under review with our office.

But that's to be expected.

Not sure when this status was posted for me since I haven't been logging on much. I interviewed 10/5 so this appears to be a quick waitlist/rejection for me🙁

correspondence sent. is this definitely bad news? does anyone have an accepted status yet?

I was complete WAY back in the middle of July and my status is still under review. Is this a good indication that I'm getting a silent rejection?
