I was transmitted on 6/20. Could I log into BAMF (why do they call it that?) and fill out the secondary now? Or do I have to wait for correspondence from TA&M?

Fill it out now. Same goes for other TX secondaries.

I was just wondering...It says true for primaries, secondaries, and fee....but I take the mcat on 7/16. Do you think they will even look my application before my mcat scores are posted which probably wont be until mid august....

Your application is PENDING.

This status either means that we are missing one or more of the following application components (secondary application, secondary payment, primary application, MCAT score or letters of recommendation) or, it is possible that we have all the components, but are still conducting our own internal audit of documents and have not yet sent the application to review. This system is able to alert you to the status of your secondary application, secondary fee and receipt of the primary application. However, we cannot report receipt of MCAT scores and letters of recommendation. For verification of MCAT and letters of recommendation, please log in to the TMDSAS website to verify if/when your MCAT scores and/or letters were sent to the schools.

Letters of recommendation must be verified, not only by TMDSAS, but by our institution as well.

Looks like they wont from that description. When i talked to some of the adcoms last year they said they would look at it but not do invites until everything is received?

That makes sense. It's good that they might look at it though....I understand not getting an invite until my mcat scores post...

By the way, I took a trip there a few weeks ago. Just to test out the drive from my house. It took about an hour.....but I am not sure I actually saw the medical school...is it right on campus or is it off A&M campus somewhere else???

The new medical school is "off campus". Its actually kinda close to riverside campus though. If you continue on Farm Road 60 then go north on FM47 you hit the HSC and riverside. Its a brand new building so its really really nice

cool, thanks for the info. I def did not see it then. You are very helpful! Thank you. Are you an A&M grad? I bet A&M grads get preference when it comes to picking spots???

So if you get accepted and you can only see your self doing the four years in bryan...but they want you to split it up between temple or wherever...is it bad to turn it down...i mean, I can only see myself doing the 4 years in bryan...do they work with you?

Yea just google maps Texas A&M HSC and you get where it is. Alternatively if you follow my directions its hard to miss since its like the only building in a 4 mile radius

I'll be a senior this year. I have no idea about the preference. I think the class always has a good amount of A&M people but im sure they get no preference

I'm not sure how it works. I think they give you a preference? So i guess you could stay in Bryan/CS. Honestly though, Temple(albeit boring) is a great teaching hospital. Plus there are the places in Houston and Roundrock. Also coming soon is an opportunity for a Dallas rotation since the HSC is getting more partnerships and affiliations there.

Just ask someone who is at TAMUHC to see how they do the rotation preference

Thanks. I live in North Houston. I really don't want to move...not yet at least. Thanks again for your time!

I met an incoming first year student a few weeks ago who is deferring until 2012, and he said that he and many others he talked to had no problem getting their first choice of location. He said they were extremely helpful and cooperative about ensuring that everyone got their first (or second for some) choice.

which location is the best in terms of clinical experiences?

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but just to put things in perspective, I and many other people I know got their second or third preference and the admissions office didnt give us a very optimistic view about whether our tracks could change. I personally was assigned my third preference and was pretty unhappy about it. But I withdrew shortly thereafter so I don't know how the track waitlists worked out. I do know that some did get placed in a higher ranked track later in May though. More people got assigned less than their second choice more this year than last because many ranked the CS/Dallas track number one which only has 25 spots.

Keep in mind that those who deferred to next year (2012) were guaranteed their first choice track as part of the agreement.

Do you have to release the MCAT to TA&M from the thx system? Or does TMDSAS release them to the schools? It says my primary is "true" but all the other forms are blank.

read the quote that i posted from BAMF. They wont say they got it. ur status should quit reading pending after they get it in i think.

You send it TMDSAS. There is a delay though.

Yeah that's true. Do you know if that program or the 4 year in CS/Bryan was the most chosen location?

You want to commute from Houston? That's going to be a fortune in gas.

It took me an hour to get there....actually a pretty mellow drive from Tomball....I am used to driving all over for my job. Closer to me than Galveston. First choice would be medical center.

In order of decreasing popularity I'd have to say: CS/Dallas, CS/Temple, 4 Temple, 4 CS, and lastly the Round Rock tracks, but that's my judgement...

which city has the better clinical experiences?

Why don't people like the Round Rock option?
Hell even temple. Its like one the best teaching hospitals in the country... With all of TAMUs choices its hard to pick a wrong one.

which city has the better clinical experiences?
Temple's Scott and White hospital and Baylor University Med center in Dallas are the best clinical options. While the former is a very well established, HUGE hospital and nationally ranked in many specialties, BUMC is also ranked high and centered in a metropolitan area. Personally, I would hate to live in Temple, just sayin.

As for Round Rock, I wouldn't say people don't "like" it, but the whole goal for clinical rotations is to get a very broad exposure to diseases and conditions. So basically its better to rotate at hospitals with a very high patient volume and one that caters to the underserved (you're likely to see more advanced stages and rare diseases in these populations). When I drove through the RR campus/hospitals, the parking lots were empty and the area around it was pretty well developed, so it seemed to me that I wouldn't be getting as good of an experience at RR compared to Temple or Dallas. That's just my opinion, I don't know what other students' reasoning was behind their rankings but it was pretty uncommon to hear that someone ranked the RR options very high unless they lived around Austin or something.

Of course, any track you're placed in will provide you with an accredited education, this is just my two cents on what I thought for y'alls benefit 🙂

I have a question about the secondary. I have an interest in primary care but I am not locked in certain in what I want to do. My parents are worried if I mention my interest, I'll be held to it. Is this true? I really do like primary care but I havent been to medical school yet and cannot state with certainty that is what i want for the rest of my life.

I dont think they hold you to it. In interviews some big percentage of people say they want to do primary care but alot less actually become PCP. Just mention that you have an interest in primary care but you want to experience the other paths as well

Most med students change their mind 5 times before they pick something. You won't truly be making an informed decision until you rotate through them anyways, and the med school knows that. I wouldn't worry about putting primary care as an interest if it really is.

I look forward to meeting yall in the interviews hopefully!

I hadn't heard of the cs/Dallas track before. Does anybody know what the experiences have been like? BUMC is a HUGE hospital, I've gotten very lost in there multiple times! Lol. I'm sure it's great experience there, I would just be worried about feeling like an ant in the anthill.

Second question, has anybody thought about the MD-plus program? Would love to hear your take on it?

The CS/Dallas track is a new one. The first batch of med students will rotate in BUMC starting this summer, and there are only 25 seats available for this track.

I kinda want to do the MD plus program.

When I log into BAMF, it says my primary, secondary, and secondary fee are complete but my MCAT scores is blank. I transmitted my MCAT scores with primary app. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks.

I called and they said it can take 3-6 weeks to fully process everything. I've got the same issue.

just submitted the secondary.. the waiting begins.. and i still can get over the fact its called BAMF

hopefully our pending status goes to in review this week

So every field for me is true, however it's still pending. Guess they are still looking at letters...

My MCAT score and Secondary fee spots are still blank. When did you submit your secondary? And they get the MCAT score from TMDSAS stuff right? I think they just have to download it from them.

In the same state as you are. I think we'll be under review sometime this week. Good luck!

every field went to "true" for me today
i submitted the secondary as well as my online payment on june 30
still says "pending" for me on my overall application status, but it sounds like that's normal

My MCAT scores still has no true next to it but they have had my primary for a while and it has been marked true. Not sure what it means except they probably haven't reviewed my app yet. Sent in secondary almost a month ago, had primary app completed also about a month ago.

When did you guys get your Primary app sent?
