Just my .02 but I was told by a medical student who was on the admissions board at Baylor that if you express a wish to stay in Texas you have to apply to TCOM as well. 😛

How does Baylor know if you applied to TCOM? Isn't TMDSAS a separate application?

Which my post said I am. I like TCOM. I worked there for a summer.

I didn't apply to TCOM last year and I was never asked about it, nor do I believe it was held against me in ANY way. They seem to be very understanding. You just have to ask yourself, if that was the only place you got in would you be happy there or would you want to re-apply for an MD? Because if you are not happy but you apply anyway and then get accepted, it will look even worse if you turn down an acceptance and will likely hurt your chances the next time you apply. I would have rather re-applied to an allopathic school than go to TCOM, just because I'd like to travel abroad and practice and a DO isn't recognized in certain places, but that's just personal preference.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I noticed on the other thread that you're still "Under Review" at Texas A&M. Even though I was transmitted on the exact same day as you, I'm in the opposite situation - invited to interview from Texas A&M but no word yet from TTU-El Paso.

I was complete and transmitted as of 5/26 and haven't heard back from either school. This whole process is confusing!

We should be friends Bionic. My TMDSAS was submitted in May and my secondary near the same time. Still haven't heard from A&M or El Paso. Emailed them both last week and no replies. Glad we applied early.

Yeah, I've just come to the conclusion that the order is completely random. I submitted my secondary to A&M the same day my TMDSAS was transferred so I was only 1 day earlier than you. In the UTMB thread, I noticed that someone who was transmitted two days after us got an interview invite on the same day when I finally received the "primary complete and under review" e-mail 😕 And UTMB doesn't even have a secondary application!

When I interviewed there I actually met mostly non-hispanic med students. I think there may have been 1 hispanic student, but I'm not even sure of that.

Yeah it kinda sucks that they don't get their student hosting set up and running until September. I'm staying at the Best Western Airport Hotel. It has a shuttle that runs from 7AM to 11PM between the hotel, airport, and TTU-El Paso. If you tell them you're interviewing you get a discount as well. Oh and it looks like we might both be going to Boston soon too eh? 🙂

Sorry for the noob question, but after submitting TMDSAS and getting transmitted etc., do I have to do the Merlin thing for El Paso before they do any interview invitations? Obviously Tech Lubbock has its secondary to fill out, but does doing that effect EP?

No, I didn't mess with Merlin until after I got my invite.

No dont mess with merlin till after you get your interview invite by email.

after that you automatically get an el paso section of your merlin main page which shows your interview time.

Will be attending the 8/18 One. I transmitted 5/20. I haven't heard back from any of the other schools 🙁 I didn't turn in my secondaries for some until mid-late june. I hope that's why.
