I wish I knew what it is...seems like some kind of hold...but I doubt they are notifying applicants of waitlist at this point. We'll see!

Just fyi, I got the same letter. I emailed the admissions director saying that I was on "active review" and she replied that I was on the "wait-list". Sorry to be the bearer of bad new but looks like we are indeed on a wait-list.

We, as in yourself and Billiken and perhaps others who have received that letter? Or...

we, as in that set of miserable souls who have been toiling in "active review" purgatory for 5+ months without receiving said letter?

I'm in the second group, fortunately. But I am still wondering... :scared:

ha don't worry I mean those of us that received the letter. I'd much rather be in the purgatory crew than the sad letter bunch.

That blows....oh well. So be it!

Good luck guys. Vandy accepts almost 200 applicants annually for a little over 100 spots

Also checking out match day 2011 pics. I'm curious as to why there is a jar of money on the podium during match day at Vandy? ANy current students want to weigh in? Swear jar? is it an i-got-into-my-number-1-choice jar?

It is a tradition at Vandy on match day that they each have to drop a dollar into the jar and announce where they are going and what specialty. The last person will take the jar of money as a gift.

 so who determines who the last person is?

Are there students on the admissions committee at Vanderbilt? Or involved with interviews, etc?

Yes, there are several second-year students who are on the admissions committee here.

Match envelopes get pulled out of a hat randomly and people announce one at a time - last envelope left is the person who gets the cash! There's video of last year's match day online somewhere if you're interested...

sounds like fun!

Waitlisted here too. It's the short interview that most likely screwed me over. I even sent an update three weeks ago. Does anyone know the odds of getting off the waitlist and is it ranked? I guess my hope now is Dartmouth.

Also got the wait list letter but will be withdrawing! GL to everyone here

So what does it mean if you don't receive the snail mail waitlist letter? I hope that doesn't equal rejection...

I would see this as a positive. Last year rejections were only given out to people after they were waitlisted via snailmail. I know I am hoping that I don't get any mail from Vandy today!

Relieved to go to my mailbox today and not find anything. Hoping that's a good sign and hoping even more for a phone call this weekend, but after almost 7 months of waiting, I'm not holding my breath.

I have a feeling that their tongues were dry from all the waitlist envelopes so they're taking a break before licking the rejection ones

Do students need to have a car or is it easy enough to get around by bike?

Accepted!!! Interviewed feb 10 just got call from dr. Zick!!! Ahhh!!! I'm going to med school

Guys, when is the last time that people did interview? Is it Feb 10th?

I'm not sure if feb 10th was the last day but I do know that they are done with interviewing for the 2016 class

5 months??? oh my goodness. I'm sorry, that sounds awful. Maybe you can call them? You probably deserve an answer at this point.

Less than a week away from sitting on 7 months, but like Cinclus said, supposedly getting decisions soon. I just hope it's good news after this unbearable wait. I can't stand the thought of being wait-listed and having to wait even longer.

Well there should only be one more admissions day after this one. Yesterday should have been the 9th one.

If they were going to waitlist me, they could have done it from the get go. This whole drawn out emotional roller coaster was just unnecessary.

Would you please elaborate on that? How were you notified?

I'm assuming it was mail, since that's how people were notified last week. 8 months though? Really? That would mean they interviewed in July. I thought interviews didn't start til August.

Just checked my mail. Joining the waitlist party after 7 months of waiting 🙁

This waitlist letter sounds nothing like a waitlist. It seriously sounds like another active review letter.

Hey didn't you get accepted already long time back? Why are you keep checking this thread?

because i know a couple people on here who are waiting to hear back so i check in on them plus relevant info gets posted once in a while that i like to read

waitlisted. By their wording, it sounds like maybe the waitlist is not ranked? anyone know for sure?
interviewed jan 31

waitlist letter today

come on vandy, did you really need 5 months to decide that

.This is Dr. Sagen's response to my inquiry. "You are on our wait list but we do not reveal placement. By the second week of June we will release many on our wait list to let each know that it is no longer possible to matriculate at VUSM."

Her second response to another email was that "
.being on the wait list means that when we invite we include the wait listed as well as the most recently reviewed applicants coming out of the ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE MTG."..

.So I am not sure what to make of it. The first makes it sound as if they do rank but they just don't tell us where we are. But the second makes it seems as if they do not officially rank but simply re-review the applicants at each meeting.

Thoughts? Or has anyone else asked the admissions office this question?

.
