Do they only begin accepting people off the waitlist after May 15th?
I believe this number of acceptances is pretty standard for Yale. Think about it this way - the same top 5 (or however many) medical schools all accept pretty much the same group of students. Like I said above, I would not be surprised if 70-80 of these students matriculated and they go to the waitlist for the remainder. How much of a change is this number from previous years? I think earlier in this thread someone mentioned the adcom would make 180 offers initially. Are they hoping to use the waitlist less this year?
Here's a half hour documentary on Yale Med. Pretty cool!

To current YSM students, do you know the academic calendar for next year? When do classes end in December, begin in January and end for the summer? When is spring break 2013? Many thanks!
(I found the 2012 enrollment website, but it was just a placeholder page.)

For first year students, class dates are as follows:

First semester: August 29, 2012 - *December 10, 2012
Second semester: January 2, 2013 - *May 17, 2013
Spring break: March 5, 2013 - March 18, 2013
*in addition there are exam periods after the last day of classes in December and May
Anyone know what the unit loan amount is for next year?
I asked this at the luncheon this past Saturday; they quoted the unit loan at approx. 24.5K.

Do we know approximately when we can expect to hear back from the financial aid department?
Thanks for checking!
Wow, those look like really generous winter and spring breaks. How long are the exam periods, typically?
Exam periods are usually all of break. Most people usually take their exams during the first few days, though.
Are you saying that the exams (qualifiers) are taken online?
Yes, ALL exams at Yale are taken online. You can take them whenever you like during the exam period (usually 2-4 weeks, depending on the time of year). That means you can take your qualifier in the Caribbean while sipping on piña coladas if you want.
Interesting. I see Yale is really trying to minimize stress for students. But what about anatomy practicals? Are those also taken online?
Financial aid report came- can't afford to go here! Withdrawing... good luck to the waitlisters!
To people who have done the financial aid forms:
Where do you find your "Yale ID Number"/ what did you put there?
Does anyone know when we will find out about our Tier?
waitlist has started moving! so happy! i love yale~~
Does anybody have any insight as to why there are hardly any hispanic students at Yale SOM? According to the demographics for New Haven, it would seem that there would be a larger hispanic presence at Yale. Any current students have any input?
In the most recent classes that seems to the case, as far as I can tell. However, in 2010, there were 38 matriculated Hispanic MD students (8%) across all class-years, according to AAMC data. There were 36 matriculated black MD students (7%). These numbers are slightly lower than Yale's peer schools, but not remarkably low.
The 8% seems OK. I guess it was just the the last 2 incoming classes that had maybe 2 hispanics each, which seems really low.
I saw a lot of hispanic people at the second look.
Maybe this year they took more because the last two years were so low?
I can't imagine that it's more than 100.
