2011 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got mine. Didn't match and completely devastated.

blindchaos, I am so sorry. Many people will be in your boat, so please understand it isn't about you.

Right now I'm telling myself that it's just a year, I can work another year, it's ok, in the grand scheme of things. I'm not assuming you have the same circumstances, but please take care of yourself right now.

I am so sorry. 🙁 I haven't heard yet about my results, but I keep telling myself that if I don't match, there's something important that I need to stay here for

I am so sorry!!! Hang in there!

For everyone, I don't know whether it is true or not, but a friend who didn't match last year told me they send the no match emails first 🙁.

Good luck, everyone!

I appreciate the insight, but we HAVE to have some more confirmation of this. Otherwise, I'm terrified of getting any email in the next few minutes.

Results in.

I did not match.

Matched! Got my second choice. Mixed emotions...LOVE the site but will be moving from husband/cats for the year.

Matched to my #1!!!!!!!!! Can't stop dancing and screaming!

Just got the news:

I've matched to my first pick!, HELLZ YEAHHHH!!!

Matched!

To those who did not match, I'm so sorry.

Good Luck to all those whose results are still rolling in!

Matched at University of Pittsburgh Counseling Center, my #2. 🙂

For the not-matched. Yes devastating after all the work and waiting. Yes AND there are sites who will have places. So find some support and focus on the fact that you will find an internship and finish your degree. You may finish your dissertation and then go on internship next year..or you may find the right place in Match II. Surf the despair and disappointment and keep an eye on the shore.

Matched!

So sorry to those who didn't match, this is such a stressful process. Hang in there!

Matched to my #1!!! California bound... i am in shock.

I am ecstatic but it's really mixed emotions because brilliant friends of mine didn't match and even here....so I am happy but sad thinking about how stupid this system is that it breaks hearts temporarily.

matched to #2!! Congrats to everyone who match. And for those who don't, my thoughts are with you.. Good luck with phase II.

Agreed. It's a crappy system when many highly-qualified students aren't able to secure the positions that they require to finish their training in a timely manner.

Sincerely heartfelt apologies to those who received bad news today, but here's to hoping the revamped Phase II treats everyone very, very well. Lord knows, it's well-deserved.

Blindchaos, and all who are finding out you didn't match - I'm so sorry. I wish I could do something for you, anything at all. Just know that Phase II is still another shot (and thank goodness it's not Clearinghouse) and it can work out. Take the day off to recoup, and get at it tomorrow. My fingers, toes and hairs are crossed for all of you!

I just got my results and I matched to the Univ. of Chicago (my #1). In total shock and no idea how I managed to pull off that miracle, but soooo happy! Will definitely spend the rest of the day being useless and bouncing around the apartment. 😀

Matched to my #1!!!! So incredibly happy!

Good luck to everyone else!!! For all those not matched - stay positive - and persistent!

Absolutely 100% agree that is a very crappy and broken system. I have nothing but empathy for the people who did not match, as I feel that it could have just as easily been me. Best of luck to those going through Phase II. I hope there is good news for you on the otherside.

I am so grateful to report I also matched this morning! To my #3, and while of course #1 or 2 would've been better, I am THRILLED. I feel very lucky. This was my second time around and I am SO glad that it worked out this time. Ironically, I matched to a site that I was rejected from last year 🙂.

To all non-matchees, you have my thoughts. It is a horrible experience, and just know that you are not alone.

matched to #2!! Congrats to everyone who match. And for those who don't, my thoughts are with you.. Good luck with phase II.

Matched (#2) and headed to Florida! I am so excited.
I feel so bad for those of you who did not match- this was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. I can't even imagine how tough it must be to be looking at match 2- I am well aware it could have just as well been any of us.

We are unfortunately not headed back to my hometown, but I did match to a high quality VA that was very impressive upon interview! However, some amazing and very knowledgeable posters here at SDN (I am thinking of one in particular) did not match, and I think this is a travesty! I will not give up my advocey for changing/overhauling this nightmare process that allows top students to slip through the cracks!

Nevertheless, Match 2 is coming and I think these people will find some good sites that will be falling over them. 🙂

Matched! Here I come Hawaii... Goodbye sucky northeast weather.

I matched at DuPont Hospital for Children - I'm SO excited!!

To those who didn't match, I'm so so sorry. I wish you the best of luck in Match II, we're here if/when you need the support.

Good luck, everyone! :luck: I am not looking forward to this anxiety next year.

me too! Wow, some people who started with me are already on their way to internship...good luck, and for those that didn't match, I can't imagine the agony, but I know that you guys are wonderful and will either match during Match II or will be exceptional candidates next year.

I did match, but I can't believe the quality of students who did not.

Best wishes to you guys, hang in there, you'll improve your CV and it will all work out. I know, I didn't match last year.

I matched to my #1 choice (didn't expect that at all!). I feel so relieved but can't be happy knowing how much stress some of my unmatched friends feel right now.
I also want to thank people on this forum; it has been such a great and much needed support for me, especially for the past 3 months..
Congratulations to those who matched and best of luck to those who need to continue through Phase II.:xf:

A national match average of only 76%!

I am from Hawaii... Happy to offer any insight I can if you need. Congrats!

I echo the sentiments by others that I am truly shocked at the amazing applicants that didnt match. It is a sucky system, and there is no rhyme or reason. Sending positive vibes to all.

Match II will consist of 256 spots for 937 Applicants. 72 of the spots are APA accredited positions.

A national match average of only 76%!

That's 76% of the applicants who submitted a rank list--of the people who registered for the Match (4,199), only 69% matched (the primary reason people withdraw without submitting rankings is that they didn't get any interviews in the first place). 69% is the worst since APPIC has been reporting that statistic.

good catch! My bad...

for those of us who have not yet received a phone call from TD, do you think it's ok to go ahead and call first?

Nah. It is a busy day. They will get to you.

Congrats to everyone on a big day. 😀

All my friends & colleagues in the dept matched, so we sighed a breath of relief again this year.

But, then my thoughts were immediately directed to you ladies & gents, so I had to log on to see the status of what was happening.

Congratulations to everyone who matched! It's exciting to see so many place so well

( . . . especially when I recall years in the past when I have personally known many people who did not match and then logged on to see many people who did not match either . . . It's extremely disheartening. Yeah, yeah, I'm such a cheery soul.)

For those who did not match (and some of you do indeed surprise me!), my words certainly aren't going to make it better, but I wish you the best. This whole process sucks donkey balls. :meanie: I hope that some of you are able to pick up on some of those phenomenal sites left during match II; otherwise, maybe you are exactly where you need to be for the next year and you will find an even better opportunity the next go around, as cliche as that may sound.

Congrats again to those who matched.

And g'luck to EVERYONE. :luck:

thanx o Gurl,

so you think i should wait. That's kind of how i feel but the clinical director at my school stresses that we should wait and call right away.
i don't know i wanna begin this process on the right foot, you know what I mean.
