I've sent out almost all of my applications, just a couple more to go.

I've already started to anxiously check my emails. I know of a couple of people who've already received rejections (from the same site). This was within a day or two of applying... I guess it's good to know early on, but I am very happy I haven't received any such emails!

Do you know which site they received rejections from?

I am in exactly the same boat. Three more applications to go and today starting to check emails. Wow just moving from one anxiety to the next. 😀

Wow, had no clue they'd start sending rejection emails out so quickly, although I agree--it's definitely better to know sooner rather than later. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, at least that way, you can send out a few extra applications to late-deadline sites if you see fit.

Three more apps to go myself and I'll be finished. Glad to hear most people are in the same boat and seem to be handling things well.
 
I know of one site that has rolling rejections. Even if you apply in late Oct, they will let you know if you are not still a candidate.
 
On a slightly more optimistic note, anyone have ideas/knowledge as to when sites with late-Oct/early-Nov application deadlines will begin sending out interview invitations?

Most of the programs to which I've applied thus far list Dec 15 as the "hear by" date, so I'm not expecting that notices would go out much before early Dec, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.
 
Based on the posts of the last two years, it looks like the majority of sites begin sending out invites the week after Thanksgiving. However, it seems a few start rolling out about two weeks before Thanksgiving (i.e., this week) and a few more the week just before Thanksgiving. I'm not anticipating any until after Thanksgiving.
 
Every site is different so don't make yourself crazy with inferring anything. Some, especially those with large applicant pools, have distinct cutoffs about certain things (eg: number of test batteries) and send No letters promptly to those who don't meet their particular cutoff criteria, even before a closing date. Other sites will wait until they close and send a wave of letters. Some have the first cut done by one person; others convene a committee--so that adds time. Some do "rolling" review; others wait for the full applicant pool before even starting. I think the main thing to do is to find some really distracting activity. I recommend doing anything and everything you can on the dissertation because the further along you are the better when you get to the interview phase and they ask you about that. Hang in there

Omg! I just got a call from Vanderbilt inviting me to interview with them for the counseling center site. I wasn't expecting anything this early. This was just for the counseling center site.😀

Excellent news, congratulations. I'm sure that helps alleviate some of the anxiety to have your first contact thus far be a positive one. Good stuff.

I have 8 applications sent out, 9 more to go. Hoping to submit 2 tonight/tomorrow, and finish most of the rest over the weekend.

Thanks for the congrats. I am still in the process of applying to sites myself. Now I have to get into interview mode since the interview is in less than a month. I am still in a state of happy shock! Now to finish my applications....

I'd *STRONGLY* recommend buying a calendar and listing the possible interview dates of your sites. Not all of these dates will be listed, but many will be available in the site materials. Don't freak out if you don't know when some sites offer interviews, but the more dates you have, the better informed decision you can make about interview date selection.

It will be very helpful to know which sites may have conflicting dates and which sites will have unique interview days. For applicants who receive 7+ interviews, it is particularly helpful because many sites will have MON & FRI dates, and there are only so many Mondays and Fridays in December and January. As a general rule, if your site interviews mid-week, I would recommend taking that date if you can swing it. Less sites offer mid-week interviews, so you will be less likely to have conflicting dates. Mid-week dates can also help save on travel if you can fly destination to destination because the cost of 1 night at a hotel is typically less than a RT flight and less wear and tear on the interviewer.
 
I dont understand how some could be willing to spend money to fly, get hotels, and rent cars in 7 different cities. That would have to be well over 3k dollars, no? I have set aside money for 5 interviews...about 2k. Im really unable to spend more than that.
 
I used priceline for my hotels and flew city to city for most of mine. I think I spent about 5k for 11 or 12 site visit. I could have saved a bit if I looked at multiple sites within a city like NYC, but my sites were spread all over the country. ii'm still paying off that debt. 🙁

This is a great idea. I have noticed that the cost of rental cars is much more expensive M-W, but there's not much to be done about this. I know when I applied to grad school I flew destination to destination and this did save me a lot of money. I am getting my calender together- although I may not get enough interviews to warrant its use- at least it will be a move in a positive direction. Thanks for the advice.

Do most sites call or will it be more likely to get an email? If they try to call and I'm not able to pick up, would they leave a voicemail, tell me to call back, or just call again at another time?

Having started to obsessively check my phone/email, I'm worried about weird calls. I got a missed call today from a number I didn't recognize and they didn't leave a message...However it was from a state that I didn't apply to. I doubt it was anything, but if this happens in a few weeks, I think I'll totally panic!

Thanks for the congrats Psychovsky. It seems like some sites call and some email based on what I've heard. I had just changed cell phone numbers and forgot to update it in the APPI online, so apparently they called my old cell phone first (which a family member has) and then they called my home number. They did leave a message on my old cell phone because the family member called and told me that someone had left a message for me. Luckily I was at home so I got the call that way. Needless to say I quickly changed my cell phone number in the AAPI. So I think they will leave a some sort of message if you miss the call or will try and call again.
One site recently emailed me and stated that my application was complete and that interview invites would be given out by phone on December 13th and 14th (and rejections would be sent via email) That was nice- at least I have don't have to worry about that one until then.

Ok, well it's not APPIC, but I had my one and only internship interview yesterday... If all goes well, and I hope it does, I will find out that I have been accepted to the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center Internship (which will hopefully get APA accreditation in 2011.) on November 15th or so.

Good luck to all of you going through the match process. Even though I had a 60 page application, I think I'd rather that than APPIC.

Well I have finally finished all of my applications. What a relief. It felt like a marathon at the end. Now if I can just wait patiently.
 
Anyone else finding, after investing so much time and energy in the application process, that you just don't want to do anything now? I have zero motivation.

Absolutely- I am so in the same place. Just want to watch BBC movies or read a good fiction book. Perhaps I will as a reward for getting through it. I imagine we all need some down time to take a breath before we head into interviews.

Most definitely. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I'm pushing up against my university's upper-limit for time in the program, so I now have to immediately return to working on my dissertation. At least the data's already collected, so that's a plus.

I am also in this place, and it is awful. I feel guilty that I haven't done more on my dissertation or other projects. However, after going over a month without a day where I worked 10 hours, I just had to take a break. I am still not back to 100% productivity. I hopefully will be soon, but not yet.

Totally in the same boat. I almost wish I had more applications to work on, as I'm finding it really difficult to switch back to dissertation mode...

hey nononora, when did you submit your app to SUNY upstate? congrats on the interview! i also applied there (because I loved their website and their funny pictures of students/faculty...), but i submitted my apps on 11/1 (even though their deadline is 11/16). thanks!

Congratulations Existenz! It's exciting that people are starting to get interviews. I totally hear you on avoiding the cold, although several sites I fell in love with are in "cold" states.

Cornell and Long Island Jewish/Zucker Hospital were the ones I have heard from already.

Yep, it was for the NP track there. Best of luck to you, and congrats on the two offers you've already received. I must admit that it was a huge relief to realize I wouldn't make it through the process without a single interview (can anyone say "catastrophizing?"). I also don't blame you about the cold--I grew up for a few years in Boston, and think I saw enough snow in that short period to last the remainder of my life. I did apply to a few sites in Mass., though, so we'll see.

And psychgal, no problem; best of luck to you as well with the UF counseling center.
 
Anyone have the additional information on this site's application requirements? I'm still finishing up my cover letters for all my sites and never got around to requesting it, which it says can only be done via email. The program description is quite brief on the APPIC directory page.

I am trying to get back into dissertation mode this morning and struggling. I feel like I should check to be sure that I haven't missed some site I should have applied to that's due on the 15th even though I know I carefully checked my list and completed it. On top of that I keep checking my email. At least a month from now we will pretty much know where we have interviews.
By the way, LaLuna123 I love your avatar with Domo in the background.
 
Hi all,
Not sure how many child people there are here, but interviews from Minnesota Children's Hospitals and Clinics have gone out. I also know Nationwide Children's has sent out some interviews to people in the Dev. Disabilities Track.
