Two interviews down! The anticipation is definitely scarier than the actual interviews.

Has anyone heard anything from St. John's in LA? I don't think I've seen it mentioned.

I don't have a lot of experience to draw on (3 interviews scheduled), but all of mine have been confirmed within 24 hours.

I've had a few take 3-5 days. I'm pretty sure it's because 2 out of the 3 days they offered were super popular days and everyone (myself included) requested the third day.

The email was personalized and the dates are Monday and Tuesday, January 17-18, 2011 and again January 24- 25, 2011, 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. I applied to their Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy Track.

i applied to 16 sites, received 1 interview (Henry Ford Hospital- Consultation Liaison Psychology), and 4 rejections (Loma Linda VA, UIC, Uof Chicago, Jesse Brown VA).

Not to raise anxiety levels, but I had a supervisor at a top VA tell me that he automatically throws out applications if he doesn't receive a thank you email. His reasoning was that he sees sooooo many qualified candidates that he is looking for ways to whittle it down, even during the interview process. I'll be doing this since I think it conveys interest in a site and I want them to see my name as much as possible in the hopes that they will remember me amongst all the other applicants

I find it hard to believe that after the interview process, one person can have that authority without running it by or at least consulting other members of the committee/faculty. I suppose I would argue that since all TDs know that they are not the only one getting a thank you note, they also realize that their site is in fact no more different or special than all the others. Much like Jerry Seinfeld, I would like to take a stand against all this over thanking. I mean, maybe they should be sending ME thank you notes for traveling to their site (unfunded) and for potentially providing a years worth of labor for $12/hour, right? Seinfeld said it best when he said, "If I knew I had to give the guy a million thank yous, I wouldn't have taken the hockey tickets in the first place."

Hang in there! Lots of us are waiting to hear from quite a few sites too. As they say, it isn't over until it's over, and for most sites, that's the 15th. There's still time for the tide to turn. 😍

Got invites today from Napa State Hospital and Mendota Mental Health, both via email. I can't believe that my last interview is now on Feb 1st. It's going to be a long marathon. I have one week in Jan where I have 4 interviews scheduled in one week. Kind of concerned about getting exhausted and losing my energy, even though 2 of them are in the same area (all 4 out of state).
I have enough interviews now, but I still can't say no - because of this unpredictable process you can never be sure, that's what I am telling myself.

Thank you, T4C, for sharing your interview travel story and tips. That really helps to know that people do travel to over 10 interviews 🙂

Congrats!!! That's super exciting!!! I'm waiting to hear from Miami Children's, but for the neuropsych track. Thanks for posting the dates. I wonder if they're sending out all tracks or just Child, Ad, and Family Tx today?

So I'm 6 (with 7 tracks) and 4 so far, waiting on La Rabida, TCH, & Mailman (which I know have made some notifications) and University of Tenn St. Judes and CHOP.

Oh yeah...and I successfully defended my dissertation!!!!!

Also...kinda glad to hear that others are waiting on UT-St Judes too! A classmate and I both applied to that track and neither of us have heard a peep. On their website, they say their deadline is Dec 15 but they also note that they try to contact everyone by the 15th but that it's not always possible 🙄 Here's to hoping they are on time or early this year!!!

However, I've only gotten rejections. Too many to even say on here (it's embarrassing). I still have 11 sites to hear from, but 7 of those have already contacted some people, so I'm freaking out.

I guess I am just curious if I'm the only one who's application has gotten no bites yet (aka some support, advice, positive thoughts, whatever you all are willing to give). This process is becoming almost traumatic!

No worries - you still have a lot of sites left and there are quite a few sites on here that seem to be staggering their invites so not everyone gets an invite at the same time.

A classmate of mine is in the same situation - receiving only rejections thus far but still waiting on quite a few. My classmate is a fairly strong applicant and I think the biggest factor is that a lot of the sites they are still waiting on are university counseling sites. It sounds like a lot of univ. cc sites are waiting til the semester/finals are over since they are swamped right now. Also...a different classmate was stuck at one interview for weeks but then got four invites in the span of about 24 hours. It's not over til you get a letter/email/phone call - hang in there! You can still get *plenty* of interviews from the 11 remaining sites!

Oh man uniquepsych hang in there!!!! I have two classmates who've gotten one interview offer so far and a bunch of rejections. They have 6 to 7 sites to hear back so I don't think your situation is too out of the norm. Did you check if your other sites have the 12/15 response deadline? Some sites offer interviews/reject on a rolling basis while other sites send out their offers/rejections on the last last possible date. Its crazy because ppl do get notified on the 15th or later for interviews!! (Check out last yrs thread around that day) so echoing everyones comments there's still a chance if you haven't gotten a rejection notice.

I feel your pain. I'm in the same situation as you and I'm totally freaking out. I have 10 sites left and one has contacted people, but a few I'm waiting on are college counseling centers and I have no cc experience 🙁 But some fair experience with adolescents and young adults.

Argh. I'm seriously considering some Plan B options.

I'm still waiting on Lenox Hill as well. According to the APPIC website, their notification deadline isn't until the 30th!! I don't know if that's a typo or if it's accurate. Either way, I guess they'll be one of the last we'll hear from.

For those who heard from Jesse Brown VA, what tracks did you apply to? I'm still waiting on them and 11 others. I didn't hear a peep today! I thought it would be busy- I suppose some sites are holding us in suspense till the end! (cue final countdown music)

I'm off to see Tangled to destress and take my mind off all of this... I think this process has taken at least a year off my life!

I just want to echo what everyone else said. Besides the Navy I only have 1 invite, and 9 rejections. But I also still have 15 to go so I am A-ok. I just wish things would roll in one way or the other, so I'd know! It isn't over till it's over!! Keep your head up 🙂

I hate that this ridiculous system has turned a group of intelligent, driven, hardworking adults into a bunch of quivering blobs of self-doubt.

I just keep reminding myself that no matter what this process brings me, I'm always going to make it work in my favor and learn something from it.

Wow. That sounds very petty on his part. I'm also shocked that any site would allow him to make such a unilateral decision. But on the other hand if a site really ranks based on schmoozing and prejudice against people who are too busy interviewing all over the country to send them a personal note then do you really want to end up there? Later on will they assign rotations or choose post-docs based on who kisses butt the most? 🙄

I matched just fine without sending notes and in fact I do not personally know anyone from my class or before who did. I really think it is a matter of personal choice that is very unlikely to effect your chances at a site without raging narcissists at the helm.

I have a feeling they will send out rejections if they aren't interested. Who knows, though. I don't think things make as much sense as I would like them to.

I wound up getting an interview at Andrus, but the dates were different: January 5, 6, or 12 were offered to me. All of which I have interviews scheduled already. Boo!

I agree to the millionth degree. The system is pretty insane. I don't think any of us would be applying for APA internships if we weren't pretty darn awesome... This process (and all its sequelae) is just so ironic, given our field... Who would think that there'd be THIS kind of a process/stress/acceptance of straight up rejection for PSYCHOLOGISTS (to-be)??

I do have to say I love how supportive this forum has been. It feels really warm and helpful, even when hearing about other sites I applied to who have yet to contact me. See, we are good at giving support and being empathic... we ARE all pretty darn awesome 😀.

I am almost in the exact same position as you, with 2 invitEs and enough rejections to be : about it. I also received a rejection from st. Johns today 🙂() and from au cc. Like you I also applied to cc with little experience, bad choice!!!! Buttttttt we have a few more to go!!!!!
