I'm thinking about applying to
Maryland, USC, Columbia, Michigan, UPenn, UNC, NYU, Case, Tufts, Temple, Boston, and Detroit Mercy
for 2011 entering cycle

Also I have no shadowing experience but have other jobs related to dentistry... Do I still need some shadowing hours???

thank you in advance

I think you should take the American DAT to increase the options you have for applying to schools. You would be considered an international student where the competition is very fierce. I have a 3.2 and a 23 aa 23 ts 23 pat and i do not have an interview. if you do the dat fine, with a gpa like that, they would be crazy not to let you in.

you need shadow experience
Many US schools have minimum dentistry shadow hour requirement

i think you should definitely write the american dat. you can do it anytime you want.. so itd probably be easiest to write it as soon as u can since im sure all the dat stuff from nov is still fresh.
i would also recommend applying to a few more schools. you never really kno what schools look for, so as a canadian its safer to apply to a few more.

I have absolutely no chance of getting in at UofT or UWO [canadian dental schools in ontario] with gpa of 3.6

Should I retake my DAT?
I wrote Canadian DAT [so no Orgo,QR]

Take UNC off your list. Take Penn and Columbia off your list unless you take the American DAT and do better on it than you did the Canadian DAT. Add Indiana, Buffalo, Pitt, Nova, Western, Midwestern.
