Both of my schools are running a little later this year than normal, so I'm kind of in limbo here. Waiting for one screened secondary (I'll probably be waiting for awhile...) and starting to work on last year's prompts for my IS school.

I won't be able to include my fall 2010 classes in my amcas because I can't register for another week due to a hold. Should I go ahead and submit my application and update my classes later? I'm in a hurry!!!

first rejection from nebraska! even though i am oos, that still kinda stung.

I got the same thing from a different school. The OOS rejection was the first email I got in this app cycle. Things didn't start out well but 4 weeks later I have 20 secondaries done with a few more expected to come in. I hope I land a seat somewhere after all is said and done!

You can still list them as in progress. By the time AMCAS verifies your app, you will already be registered for them. Unless they've changed things since I applied, you should even be able to list courses you plan to take in the spring on AMCAS as future coursework.

Sorry, guys. 🙁

If it's any consolation, my experience was that rejections come before invites. I got some quick presecondary rejections up front, and in July of my app season I was starting to look at post docs. Then all of a sudden in August, invites started pouring in like a dam had broken. So hang in there; it's way too soon to fear for the worst. :luck:
 
The CCAF finally got my transcript in...now I just have to wait 3 more weeks until my application is verified (assuming they don't kick it back for some reason)!
 
A strange thing happened to me today. The medical director of the clinic that I am volunteering at called me into his office for an hour and suggested that I apply at the local DO school on which he serves on the board. He said that he would give me a LOR for it. The school says that I still have time to get in on the early interviews.

I've been desperately looking for a DO mentor for a year. And now this guy doesn't just agree to be a mentor, he just takes over and starts doing it. I don't know what to say, except, well, thanks.

I've been fortunate so far - only good news. Got a letter request from Mayo, screened in at UC Davis and UIC.

I'm sure I've spoken too soon and my first rejection will be waiting for me - I've got my money on Vandy.

If it's any consolation, my experience was that rejections come before invites. I got some quick presecondary rejections up front, and in July of my app season I was starting to look at post docs. Then all of a sudden in August, invites started pouring in like a dam had broken. So hang in there; it's way too soon to fear for the worst. :luck:

I'm not too worried yet. I heard adcoms judge candidates based mostly on looks anyways so I know I'm a shoe in.

That's awesome! Congrats, sometimes things just fall in place perfectly. It all happens for a reason.

I'm still waiting on one as well. The last piece I need for any applications I'm waiting to complete.

It is very surreal to think how far I've made it. I look back at when I started the pre-med process and it feels like yesterday.

10 secondaries down, 5 to go. So far no pre-secondary rejections, but I'm definitely bracing for impact!

Anyone have any fun plans for those rejection letters/emails? I know a few people from my post-bacc came up with "Rejection Rituals." For example, one girl is going to treat herself to a gourmet cupcake for each rejection she gets served. Another one convinced her husband to dole out a foot rub each time. My lab partner is gonna relax by playing a level of Lego Harry Potter! I'm thinking I may take my dog to PetSmart and let him pick out a treat, which is quite hilarious. Or treat myself to a nice glass of Pinot Noir. 😀

Thoughts? Just thought we could make this process a little more palatable! Good luck everybody!

Why do you think they ask for photos?? That is what they use to pick students for the incoming class. If you think about it, it really is the only logical conclusion.

i've heard that it is to make sure the person who took the MCAT is the same person who shows up to the interview. are the people at schools that ask for photos exceptionally good looking? :laugh:

I thought that, as future physicians, we were all good looking. I thought that attactiveness came with the other altruistic qualities like selflessness, caring, and service. I mean, by shaing my good looks with others I am by definition being being giving and selfless.

My 2x2 was just of my abs. I think they thought I'd make a good doctor because I'd be able to truly empthasize with my obese patients.

We use them because the interview season is long and our memories are short. After a while, all of the applicants start to run together; the pics help jog the adcoms' memories. I mean, there are literally hundreds of interviewees who pass through the admissions office over a period of almost six months. I can't even remember the names of all of the applicants I interview one-on-one, let alone all the people I only meet briefly at lunch or on a tour. You can imagine what it must be like in May when the admissions folks are pulling people we interviewed 6+ months previously off the waitlist! FWIW, residencies ask for pics for the same reason, and they interview far fewer candidates than med schools do.

Before all of you start interviewing, I just want to point out that the admissions process is a ton of work on the med school side, just as it is on yours. Nearly everyone you meet on your interview day, from the interviewers, to the tour guide, to the student hosts, to the students who have lunch with you or sit on panels to answer your questions, are volunteers. Except for the admissions dean, so are all of the adcoms who read your apps and attend regular meetings to consider your app. The admissions office staff are paid to coordinate all of this, but it's a massive undertaking to make sure that your interviewers and your tour guide and your lunches show up when and where they're supposed to, and to find last-minute replacements when a volunteer gets sick or forgets to show up. Everyone working with admissions understandably gets a little frazzled by February, so especially if you're interviewing late in the season, try to treat the office staff gently. 🙂

Anyone have some new app news? Some of you all should start to get interviews soon! On my end, I'm still going through programs. There is no version of an MSAR for residencies, so it's quite a lot of work to research them all.
 
Hey all! I'm a non-trad but I don't come to this forum a whole lot, but I'm sure plenty of you recognize me from PA or the MCAT board. Because of my husband's job I'm only applying to the schools in Philadelphia. My ACMAS was verified 7/2, I got secondaries from Penn and Temple on 7/6. I got Jefferson's on 7/9. I submitted Penn's this weekend and I'm probably submitting Temple's tonight. I am going to finish and submit Jefferson's by Friday.

I haven't gotten one from Drexel yet, but last year they didn't send them out until August. My AACOMAS is still being verified (I submitted that one later than AMCAS) but I only applied to PCOM, so I will only get one secondary from them.
 
Out of the 28 schools I applied to I have recieved 23 secondaries, withdrew from 3, returned 19, and am working on one. Five more and I'll be done with the secondary phase!

(Holds up glass of wine) Here is to the interview season that may begin at any moment!

That doesn't count as a picture. As for updating where I'm at in the process, I have one secondary left and I have received one interview so far. I'm still waiting for more and I really hope I get 2/3 rds of that which I applied to.:xf:
 
Of 22 schools, I've gotten and returned 9 secondaries, gotten the "we've gotten your primary" emails from 3 others, and absolutely nothing from everywhere else. :shrug: Kinda weird. I know it's only been a week, but I guess I was at least hoping for the auto-generated "we know you're out there" email from almost everywhere...
 
So far I'm twiddling my thumbs. Have gotten one automatic "We know you exist, we got your primary" from UCSF, and am waiting for them to screen me out on the secondary so that I can appeal. :laugh:

My in-state OHSU is typically pokey again this year. Haven't heard a peep from them, but that's normal.

These tests are funny. I would have loved a bunch of physics. Instead they threw a bunch of chemistry at us - an unknown reagent is added to solution of blah blah and evolves a red gas, after blah blah is added - what is the solubility of blah blah in the resulting solution...... whaaaaaat

There wasn't a single question with constant acceleration, or lenses. I think there was 1 concave mirror. No speed of light or doppler effect... or periodic motion.... shoot. I WORKED on these things.

And the Verbal - we had a crazy passage about positive and negative conceptions of liberty. What made it worse was that the passage changed definitions in the middle (both were wrong) and the author couldn't quite decide which one he liked. The whole passage had to be experimental because I guessed my way through it and still got a 13, which means I was an extremely lucky guesser or they didn't grade it.
 
Whew! Screened in at UCLA and UCSD. It feels nice to be part of a 2000 and 3000 applicant pool, instead of the 6000/7000 applicant pool.

To date, I've gotten some decent love from schools showing me early favor in screenings - a good sign, and one I was really worried about being a non-trad.

YAY! Going from 26 to 28 should help you immensely! And your ECs are absolutely sick, if I remember correctly.

Thanks 🙂 I'm just happy none of my scores went down and my bio went up 2 pts and writing up 4 letters 🙂

I know 26 to 28 doesn't really seem that big, but I agree with it really helping my chances as on the spreadsheet I went from not really a chance anywhere to having a bunch of go for it and hopefuls 🙂

Also, you're right, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they love my ECs 🙂

Statistically, going from a 26 to a 28 makes a significant difference for your chances of getting interviews and acceptances. Congrats on raising your score. 🙂

I would be eternally grateful if USF and NYMC would send out their secondaries already.

Also, it would be nice if UF just went ahead and sent me the FU letter I'm expecting (I doubt I'll get past their primary screen). Being a UF graduate I know how score crazy they are, and I don't think I even come close to making that cut. :cry:

Not sure if you know this already, but NYMC's "secondary" has no essays at all--you just pay the fee. As another SDNer once posted, "You write a 17-character essay about your credit card number." Then they take 6 weeks to mark you complete ...

Oh, the joys.

Yeah, I know. Still, I'd like my 6 week wait to come to an end sooner rather than later.

Honestly though, I'm plenty busy enough freaking out about hearing soon from UCF or FIU about possible rejection/interviews.
 
At least this post secondary/ pre-interview invite time serves as a eye of te storm for my bank account.

Invite came from Ohio State, rejection came from Pritzker. I really had my money on Vanderbilt for "first rejection" but I guess I can't be right all the time.

28 secondaries received, 13 submitted so far... ahh! 😱
 
i got my first interview today after getting a presecondary rejection from indiana! good luck to everyone else! :luck:
