2012-2013 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
3.71 Overall and 30 O MCAT... applied to 16 schools and have 5 interviews so far (two of which came in today and yesterday). No rejections yet. Does anyone know if this is decent for this time of year with my stats? I was super panicky at first and didn't think I'd get any but now I'm just panicky about bombing the ones I have......

+pity+

+1

Either oblivious, trolling or just plain mean.

+2 Okay so I keep checking complete dates of people who are getting IIs and freaking out because I was complete before them....aaaaah!!

So is it at all known which schools generally go in order of complete date and which ones are random? Or is the only way to guess by looking at complete dates of ppl who are posting on SDN?

complete at 23 schools for a month now.
was placed on hold SUNY upstate.
macallan and i have become the best of friends.

On hold at Upstate as well ... *sigh...* I really hope that being On-Hold =/= Delayed rejection.

another week gone, no II's, no rejections...i'll take it

You realize that if that continued through the cycle, you would end up going nowhere, right?

Just helping support the panic. 😉

Have you guys noticed that II's tend to come on Wednesdays? Or is that not a thing?

That would be true from this point on....

But, I have 4 II's to date, so hopefully I'll be going somewhere!!!! :meanie:

I have gotten 1 on a Friday, 1 on a Saturday, 1 on a Monday, and 1 on a Tuesday. 0 on Wednesday lol

Yet another silent week for me... Hoping to get some good news next week!

I'm at 1 rejection, 0 II. I'm hoping one of these weeks in september I'll hit the megaload 😀.

Guys! I know this isn't particularly panicky, but since I've definitely been in the panic boat recently I figured I'd mention that I got my first II today (CWRU). When it comes down to it we all have a lot of time and a lot of chances to get more IIs. Wishing everyone the best!

Congrats on your ii! I just wanted to join in the panic. My friends are getting iis to Harvard, Temple, Boston U, and everywhere else in between. I've only gotten rejections. Sucks to have super smart friends during this cycle...

Having a July complete date and zero interviews from my 'lower' schools is pretty disheartening. :/ Anyone else in this boat?

👍 Digging the new map.

Haha, thanks! Hopefully it blows up in blue and green soon, because I'm starting to get anxious.

If you want the .psd file I'd be happy to share. I made it in about 10 mins though, so it wouldn't be hard to replicate.

Haha, I didn't expect all this attention in PMs.

For those of you interested, the link for the psd file is below. It's easier than figuring out how to email a bunch of different people anonymously. 🙂

If there's any trouble downloading it (I had to find a random filesharing site to do this) let me know and I'll figure it out. Enjoy!

Okay, I'm joining this panic thread. Neither of my state schools have gotten back tome. I went to go see my adivsor and they made me feel even more pessimistic about getting an II from my state schools.

All hope is not lost yet/ I have 2 OOS interviews and 1 private school interview. Too many rejections to count.

Why won't my own state show me some love. :scared:

When were you complete? I think three interviews at this point is very respectable.

Pretty early. Early enough that I have more than a few rejections racked up already.

Three interviews leaves you a pretty good shot at least one acceptance. You're sitting pretty

Wut??? 😕 3 holds and 4 rejections in September? That's nuts.

Wut??? 😕 3 holds and 4 rejections in September? That's nuts.

Depends on the schools... for all we know, he's putting schools like Drexel, Tulane, GWU, BU, and Mayo under group "B". Those schools whittle down their numbers very efficiently. I'm at 0 rejections, 0 holds, and 1 II at this point, so I have none of those holds/rejections since my schools don't generally do such things so early.

It should make everyone feel better to know that I finished the Rush supp a month ago and didn't realize that I had to finalize it separately. just technically "submitted" today after wondering why i wasn't complete. 1 hold. 0 ii. 22 schools.

I've had a pretty successful season in terms of interviews...but I am paranoid that I am a terrible interviewer and will screw up this whole process at the last step. :meanie:

At 3 rejections, 1 II and a whole buncha nothing else. y u no love me, med schools?

That's great and I'm happy for you!!!! - Start another about Interview paranoia!!!!. There's a whole magnitude of difference between not having a single II to hearing about someone who has many, it doesn't make the "have nots" feel any better. We want to be patted on the head and telling us "it will be okay"!!! Sorry my Panic monster is growing! I will trade places with you in a heart beat

The thread title misled me. I definitely expected this:

Much more apropos after getting a II.

Widespread Panic offer listeners the sonic equivalent of a dip in a cool mountain stream. At once bracing and cleansing, invigorating and soothing.

Seriously... While indeed a panic... I think your panic is waay different from the thread intent

DAE feel really tired of hearing about the progress of fellow premeds? I wasn't like this before but ever since I started this damn application cycle, hearing about anything related to applications is just so suffocating. I literally feel physically labored whenever the subject comes up. I can't even stand to be around these people anymore because hearing about their interview invites or whatever clinical experience they're getting just makes me want to run myself into a wall. 😡

Is this appropriate for the panic thread?

Feel better. Paranoia, insecurity, depression...it's all part of this process. Wouldn't be a true premed if you're not anxious about whether your life might change in a year or not.

Now now now, none of you guys have the right to panic as much as I do.

The tl;dr:
Rising senior at top 5 university
cGPA: 3.15, sGPA: 3.0
Missed my chance to get a committee letter, but have 6 individual LoRs instead (at least those should be decent)
Took MCAT earlier this month
AMCAS submitted a week ago, still awaiting verification
Ample volunteering (clinical and non-clinical) ECs, and research experience (2.5 years)

The GPA and late app can't possibly be good, but we'll see. I'm applying very broadly...I'll probably be submitting apps to just about every medical school, with a good mix between MD and MD/PhD.

Will keep you guys posted 😀

1. Didn't get a committee letter when the option was available
2. Low GPA's
3. Late AMCAS submission
4. You do realize there are more than 100 medical school in this country right? So what do you mean you will apply to just about every one?

I would honestly, for your own sake, save the money on all those secondaries (which by the way you will end up submitting late as well since you wont get most of them until after verification) and just bring your GPA up first. The odds are stacked against you, but hey what do I know, weirder things have happened in this process, so best of luck to you

Hopefully this doesn't come off as condescending, but I have a lot of IIs while my friend has already attended his only one thus far. He has a > 35 MCAT, > 3.8 GPA and pretty good LOR/ECs, but has had no luck with IIs even though in mid/late-July right around when I was (2+ months ago!) I don't even bring up medical schools around him because I feel like an ass. 🙁 It doesn't feel fair, because he's a really good kid and should have a shot anywhere. Anyone think this cycle will start picking up? I would honestly think he'd be littered with IIs by now having applied to over 20 schools over a wide spectrum of top/mid/safeties...

Yes, this sounds strange especially with a broad range of schools, early app and great stats. Perhaps there is some sort of red flag in his app that you are unaware of? From what I am told, a great applicant WILL end up somewhere when this is all said and done. So I think he will be fine.

Still panicking. Applied to 14 schools, 1 interview, 2 rejections so far. How are you doing?

Doing a little better. 4 II's so far, one per week. 1 rejection - from Indiana, your school. But I applied to like 34 schools so, and only like 2 reaches.
