Applied to ~100 schools
Submitted AMCAS in September
Submitted secondaries September through December
GPA: 3.2 from top 5 UG university
MCAT: 30
Interviews so far: 1
No committee letter (although individual LoRs should be good)

Is this the right thread for me?

Never thought I'd say this but I can't wait for break to be over! Really want some good news, and excited to graduate this upcoming semester too.

Seriously?? 100 schools? That's insane. 😱 How'd you find the time to finish all those secondaries?

My weekends and weeknights were definitely hell for about a month and a half but I got through them. Writing is probably my strongest skill, and after a certain point I ended up recycling certain material (adding school-specific stuff as appropriate) so it didn't take a totally unreasonable amount of time.

You didn't seriously turn in secondaries for 100 schools? Why did you apply in September instead of waiting a year?

You spent $10,000 on AMCAS primary fees and secondary fees?

Even with an AMCAS fee waiver that's still well over $2500 in AMCAS primary fees alone...

That wonderful feeling when you admit to yourself that you should start preparing your application for next cycle. :-/

Believe it or not, I'm in a position where I could have covered the fees myself, although the folks were nice enough to chip in.

Must be nice! All things considered, I've spent about $7k this cycle and I'm still $3k in debt from it.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

Yikes that's a lot of essays you wrote there. Good luck.

Hey panic peoples,

If you feel that you will likely be reapplying next cycle, feel free to take advantage of the opportunity in my sig... I'd love to help in any way that I can.

Is this for real? I applied to 30 schools, and I felt burned out after all of those secondaries. Not to mention the expense.

Got my first post interview rejection 🙁
It was from a school that I was luke warm on but had a location that would prevent me from doing the whole long distance relationship.

Jan is going to be brutal. I am hearing back from all my schools that I interviewed at last year this month. I'm a terrible interviewer so am just bracing myself at this point and hoping that one of them takes me.

Same here, it's a weird feeling of beating myself up over not doing better and feeling helpless.

Definitely for real, and I have the application receipts to prove it 😀

I've gotten rejected from about 1/3 so far, silent treatment from the rest except for the one interview that will be happening very soon.

More power to you! Whatever it takes to get in!

Still no II, January sucks! lol It sucks that I am banking on 1 II to a school to only accepts like 25% of interviews :/

I just looked at your mdapps. We have similar stats and EC. I didn't apply to as many schools as you but you applied to most of the ones I did. I find it interesting that we have silences and rejections from the same schools. When did you complete most of your secondaries?

Late September through Mid October with a 4-5 in late October

ahh, Jan 5th has passed. historically, its around this time that all interviews have been given out.

oh well, always next time.

No, I predict this will be a very busy week for invites.

Guys, no!! We're supposed to be neurotically anxious, not depressed! 🙁

Anyways, I checked out the school specific threads from last year (because I'm neurotically anxious) and they still give out waves of II's in Jan and Feb. I think there will be about 2-3 more waves of invites for each school, judging from the patterns of the schools that I looked at, so keep your hopes up! :xf:

Starting the 1st of 3 MD interviews in a few days. I feel like I'm interviewing for WL.

...The new panic is: WL/reject instead of purely rejection.

Why is it I think I'll be reapplying? :/

come on don't think that you'll be interviewing for WL, you're interviewing for an acceptance!! gotta come in there confident. feel as pessimistic as you want after you're done. good luck!

DFTT :troll:

given my post history, I beg to differ.

Think about it, its 1/7 today, and most schools stop interviewing by 3/5. Are you telling me that schools haven't booked their interview schedules out already for the coming 2 months?

I agree you are not a troll. But I do know plenty of schools that only schedule one month at a time. So while some schools, possibly all the ones you applied to, may be done passing out invites, I do believe there are still going to be at least one more round of invites from many schools this month.

Don't give up just yet 🙂

no news =[ im starting to cope with the real chance i may not be in medical school next year... its not every anxiety now... its just sadness

I've actually become quite cynical towards the whole application process and towards medical schools in general (except for one school). I see so many qualified people here on SDN who haven't gotten interviews (or only a few), and then I see all of these top applicants who have a dozen interviews. To me, it kind of seems like a waste of time and resources for schools on a select few applicants who can only choose one school in the end. I feel like the system could be a lot better somehow. Even some sort of ranking system like for residency applications. I'm just annoyed at the whole thing.

Another rejection from Drexel haha :/

actually I think its a hold-donno

"Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed by a member of our Admissions Committee. While we have decided not invite you for an interview at this time, we would like to re-evaluate your application again in the spring should interview spots remain. We have many completed applications to review and wish to hold on a final decision on your application until later in the cycle. Again, thank you for your interest in Drexel College of Medicine. "

The application process is a buyers market. Schools can do whatever they want with relatively few reprocussions (if any at all). Take a look at the general feelings about Georgetown on this website and then notice that they don't seem to be having any problems meeting their quota.

I agree that the system could be better, but I think we all know that schools have no incentive to change (ignoring the handful of schools that work to make this process less painful). All in all we need to keep reminding ourselves that this is all a game we are playing to get where we want to be. By this time next year (I hope :luck:) we'll be able to look back fondly on the end of this process.

Have to vent... longtime reader of this thread, first time poster. I am Interviewing at CCLCM tomorrow... my only 'good school' interview of the cycle. I am getting dry heaves in my hotel room right now because I am scared out of my mind if I blow this interview. I worked so hard on putting together a good app, but have almost zero love from anywhere else. If I don't get in here, the only other interview I got was NYMC. :-/

Yeah edited, but I think it is considered a rejection as it seems they put everyone on hold rather than reject outright

I love that program so much, I wish I was in your shoes. 😳 Just relax and be happy that you're there and your positivity will surely shine through!

Just checked my status and I have been put on hold as well. :lame: I didn't get an email though. 😕
