2012-2013 Panic Thread

Yup, I am, I just took a shot, I know my chances at JHU, HMS, and NYU is almost zero. So you think I dont have any chance at these school I applied to? and I guess CU is the only state school I could have applied to.

I think you might be ok at CU and Creighton. When I was compiling my list back in May there were people saying that AZ was starting to increase its OOS rate so perhaps you're good there too. I don't know much about the others though. As someone with low stats I also considered Toledo, but I didn't like how high their OOS tuition is.

Well I guess there is nothing I can do at this point but hoping for the best. Thanks for your response.

Applied to 13 schools: 3 interview invites, 1 rejection, 9 silences.

Complete at all schools from 08/08 to 08/30. 37 / 3.97 / decent ECs.

Yay.

You shouldn't be panicking if you have gotten 3 II's already.

*sigh* another week, another empty inbox. Thank you Boston U. for having the decency to reject me at least.

I've gotten to the point now that I expect every week to be quiet. 🙁 I know everyone has been saying "don't panic, it's still early," but at what point can we start panicking?

I heard it's okay to panic in october :|

I posted on here earlier....I have >3.9 gpa, and 32 mcat. 3 rejections and 3 IIs so far. complete at most places in midjuly. No word from the 17 other schools I applied to. Should I assume silent rejections? How can I be silently rejected from17 schools. That's a lot.

On the other hand, I may be on hold. But then again, doesn't it seem a little ridiculous that I've been put on hold at 17 schools...that's a lot of schools.

I haven't even heard from my state school.

I guess no news is better than good news...but the wait is really grueling and discouraging. I don't even know what to think.

I'm in a similar position...complete everywhere by end of July but haven't heard from 16 schools. Really hoping those aren't all rejections. I wonder if its bad to be complete so early 😵.

This process is really getting to me =\

That's a good thing.

I think it has slowed down across the board, fellas. While I was fortunate to get a healthy dose of II's, they were pretty much all in July/Aug/Early Sept...it's been quiet for quite some time.

Looking at mdapps for our fabled 40+ MCAT scorers on sdn, it seems things have become more sluggish even for them...

For those that have been complete for awhile, I think it's prudent to expect II's to just "trickle" in (at best) from here on out...that being a function of A) schools being bogged down with the bulk of the cycle's apps, B) schools giving II's more conservatively/deliberately as the open spots are filling up.

G'luck

2 IIs, 5 rejections, waiting on 14 schools. Last II was like 2 or 3 weeks ago...not really panicking, just sort of annoyed like everyone else at the general quiet. would love two or 3 more IIs, I guess I'm fine with 2 right now but i'd be a lot more confident with 5.

good luck everyone

I just wish there was more transparency on the part of schools telling us what it considered late or unrealistically late in the app season. Most of my things were complete in mid September and I was under the impression that it wasn't 'early', but it was still far from 'late'. But as time goes on, and I see the completion dates of people who are only getting IIs right now in mid-October for dates into December and January, I am feeling more and more that anything after early August is almost a death-sentence for many rolling schools.

I would prefer schools just set a hard deadline in August or July for submitting secondaries instead of the ambiguous system they have now. Each school would have fewer apps, and everyone would be able to feel they have a shot regardless of submission date.

That feel...:scared:

Not exactly panicked. Still, hoped I would be farther along by now.

Nontrad, 35-37, 3.6-3.7. Complete late Aug-early Sept at most schools. 1 II (IS applicant) / 2 rejections (reach schools) / 13 silent.

Looking back at 2011-2012 threads for my non-reach schools, it looks like applying late is not a true death sentence. It does put you in a position of having to be extra-vigilant in terms of LOIs, phone calls, etc. I had hoped I could apply mid-cycle (pending MCAT score release), sit back and watch a decent number of IIs roll in... Which could still happen. But more likely, it will be a long slog through end-Nov, at least, for interviews. Then through next Spring and beyond for waitlists. It will come down to positive mental outlook, hustle and luck.

My plan is to learn all I can about the ~5 schools where I can really see myself going. Getting more in-depth than the info. for a secondary essay. Nothing groundbreaking, but "Why _____?" seems to be the all-important question. Good luck!

Just want to chime in about the "late" app thing . Last year I took a late mcat and was complete at most schools mid Sept to early Oct, I got 3 late interviews and waitlisted at all 3. This year I pre wrote secondaries and was complete at all schools by mid July. The difference has been staggering. I have 5 interviews and all are before I even had my FIRST last year. At this point there's nothing you can do if you applied late, but I believe the early app makes all the difference in the world. Good luck everyone! I hope everyone who is panicking gets some reassuring news soon! I detest this process and feel like I've been constantly stressed for over a year now, I know the "panicked" feeling even tho this year is going okay for me.

How late were the three interviews you considered late? Past December?

2 in december 1 in march, the march one was specifically a "wait list only" interview

my designation of them as "late" is based mostly on how early I got them this year. just a comparison, i'm sure people who interviewed in jan/feb or even later got acceptances last year.

That's what i'm always hoping..but now i'm scared that the interviews I get are going to be too late in the cycle. Agh..

Almost Monday guys! New week, new news?

+1 haha, I was going to post something exactly like this until I scrolled up.

I just hope that I don't get a rejection for my birthday this week 🙁

I'm looking forward to this week. Really hoping for my first acceptance on Tuesday!! Not exactly sure if the school will be calling this week, but since I interviewed on the 20th, I'm really hoping that they do 🙂.

I've actually started to panic that I may have a bad LOR or something. IDK why, but i've just been struck by this idea that I'm not going to get in because of a bad LOR.

I am a reapplicant, and if I got 4 interviews last time, does that mean my LORs are "good enough."

edit: I know it's a stupid thing to worry about, and I do have interviews this cycle, but I am super panicking about this for some reason.

I have this feeling too, because my PI (med school block director) was busy when she wrote it, despite asking her over the course of 2 months.

You know, I had managed to steer clear of the panic almost entirely, up until now. I watch these amazing applicants get acceptances left and right on the first day and I just get this sinking feeling...

Time to hit the bars..😉

I had been sitting on two interviews for the past month, but on Friday I finally received a third. So as of right now I have 3 IIs, 1 R, and 20+ waiting to hear from... :scared:

If I was complete at all my schools in early/mid September and I only have one II so far, is hope lost for the others? Are invites starting to wind down yet or are we still in the peak? I am starting to feel like nothing is going to come of this year. 🙁

If anything you should be confident with your application! LizzyM said that people who are complete in September shouldn't be expecting interviews until November!

Good job! I have no II so far

Anyone know the thread where LizzyM mentions when to expect interviews based on when you're complete?

I need to get off this forum. Now i'm worried any interview I get will only be for a waitlist spot.

Another gap year anyone?

Yup. Absolutely no news for me in October. I think it has been a rmobth since I've heard anything. 10ii so far though so I cant complain.

Panicking about no phone call yet today though......

Got waitlisted today from a school where I thought my interview went really well. Now I'm panicking about the other interviews that I thought went well but it may have been the complete opposite. Add that to the fact that I feel like I should have applied to more than just 11 schools and now I feel like I blew it with my applications.
