2012-2013 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
+1 But the wait....the wait is the worst part. I don't have a data plan on my phone to check my email, so whenever I step out the house it's usually like:
Restaurant- "Hey do you guys have WiFi?"
DMV- "Hey do you guys have WiFi"?
Walmart- "Hey do you guys have WiFi?"
Work- "Hey do we have WiFi?"
Friend's house- "Hey do you have WiFi?"
Gas station waiting in line- "Hey do you guys have Wifi?"

And the worst part is, if I don't check my email for more than 10 minutes. I swear I received an Email from some medical school 😱 Then rush home to see the same thing I see in my wallet everyday....NOTHING 👎

Your wallet has wifi?

BTW CONGRATS ON DARTMOUTH!!

That was the rejection I was most sad about out of my 5- I will live vicariously through you!

Maybe someday I'll be big and strong and cool like Shaker and get invited to cool schools like Dartmouth. Congrats Shaker 😀👍

😀😀 Thanks guys! I was hesitant to say anything about it on this thread but I'm super excited! 🙂🙂🙂

Does that mean I'm no longer allowed on this thread? I'm a terrible interviewer, I swear! 😳

You're always welcome! The panic train doesn't stop until you get that acceptance

Sure, I'll bring two bullets- I call first though- I don't wanna back out!

edit: totally didn't see bearstronaut's post afterwards... GMTA I guess 😛

I'm actually really excited to see that movie! I love Anne Hathaway so yeah... 😍 too bad her part probably won't be very long 🙁

I haven't seen this musical and have no idea what happens. So I am excited to see it when it comes out. It is something to look forward to I guess.

I'm falling in love with your username 😍

I'm probably not allowed in this thread, but I want to support everyone 🙂

Can I just say? This is the best thread on the entire internet. I read the whole thing and now I can trudge onward.

(Yes, I do have invites, but I also have special circumstances that may have me waiting until the very very very end for news. All I can say is thank God I did not apply in undergrad or anywhere near undergrad. Such a bunch of tools that no one should ever have to be exposed to. Every single commenter on this thread WILL make a better doctor than my undergrad schoolmates. Adversity makes us better able to understand our patients! No joke.)

Fight the good fight...

On a bright note guys.... I got my neurobiology test back and am ecstatic! I did average which curves to a B-/B... Why am I ecstatic?

I haven't gone to one lecture and it tested >1 month of material, I went to vegas before the test (thinking I would study there) and didnt start studying/learning until 9 pm the night before (test was at 11 am)- I spent a few hours and got through about half the material
(not even really studying it... just learning it.... and fell asleep), Woke up and went to my test not knowing NOR even ever being exposed to half the material (also the more significant material).

Took the test and felt like the golden retriever "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM DOING MEME"

Thank God It was multiple choice- I knew the answer to 7/ 38 questions... the rest?

MCAT STRATEGY PICKING/GUESSING THE RIGHT ANSWER WOOOHOOO!!!!

got a 69% on the test- average was 71% :] I thought I would completely fail. and this would be my first ever D/C in a course.

SO WHAT IF I DONT GET ANY MED SCHOOL INTERVIEWS, ATLEAST I CHEATED THE SYSTEM!

Well there's your problem.

But yeah, this is why we take the MCAT, to learn to game MC exams!

I hope you're looking forward to your medical school class being composed primarily of people who literally JUST graduated from undergrad.

NO INTERVIEWS stillllllllllllllll

Empty Friday inbox...we meet again! :beat:

You claim you're not supposed to be here....why is that? Where did you get interviews?

Also I'm still only at 4 and 1 (4 rejections, 1 II.) Haven't heard from a school since Monday. Patience is a virtue....sigh....

So...we're allowed to panic until we have an acceptance?
Because if so, I have 1 post-interview letter pending and an upcoming interview (first MD school!) :scared:

October was completely silent. And November has been silent as well, so far. 2 MD interviews.

Still no rejections though. I'm bracing myself for a string of rejections.

still no II here 🙁 stupid silence.. grr

yes 🙂 LOL  bearstronaut is my idol

No pressure! 😛

Anyway, with the AAMC meeting this week, I'm not too surprised it's been quiet. But the week before Thanksgiving? That could be a big week. Then probably little to no word over Thanksgiving (it would suck to get rejected right before you give thanks), with things picking up in early December.

I feel like a weather forecaster with these sometimes. Someone should make a Eddard meme that's all brace yourself. 👍

Silent rejections are the bane of my existence, though.

Sorry to intrude, but Bearstronaut, are you a Brad Neely/Creased Comics fan? Cuz if so, you might be my new best friend 😀

AGLB

At this point, I'd rather start getting a few rejections rather than blindly wait. @_@
I completely agree! I've been ready to throw in the towel for weeks now and figure out what I can do to be more competitive for next cycle

P.S. I was feeling pretty depressed about apps today, but then I read this thread and I was dying laughing! Thanks guys 😉

I'm actually debating whether to bring up (at my one and only interview next month) the fact that I'm currently studying for a pharm tech certificate so that in case I don't get in this cycle, I can attempt to get a retail-related job that I'm not 'overqualified' for during reapplication. :bang:

Most interviews will actually end up asking a variation of what you will do if you don't get into medical school this cycle so its not that bad to end up talking about it. In fact I'd personally see it as a plus since it shows maturity and the ability to see ahead (as well as the ability to accept the fact that reality can suck at times). I know I talked about my future plans in my one and only interview 🙁.

PS I know I had an interview already.... But no word back at all from any other schools (especially the Texas schools whose last interview invites are going out these days) is killing me... Especially since I'm a reapplicant :scared:.

Yes, I get that. I was saying instead that a regular person with a regular life--like many on this thread--may very well make a better doctor than an entitled Ivy League type who is choosing between Harvard and Hopkins. Not talking about age. I was digging at my classmates from back in the day. That may not have come through, sorry.

I love how on SDN, "panic" means OMG I ONLY HAVE 1 INTERVIEW FML!!

This website. :smack:

edit: not exempting myself. I originally came on this thread to encourage people but then kinda got sucked in.... :/

1 interview only is not good odds of making it in

Well the pressure is on because everything you've worked for comes down to this ONE interview.

Even with multiple interviews, you're not guaranteed a spot. Many people may have multiple interviews, and end up getting wait listed everywhere. I had three interviews last cycle, and got rejected everywhere.

On the other hand, there's a lot of people like Irish, who get only one interview, and get accepted.

So you never know.

so true....7 interviews, 1 post-interview rejection, 3 wait lists, and waiting to hear back from the other 3 schools 🙁

TX res. applied to to all TX schools, plus 6 AMCAS schools, 3 rejections (Rosalind Franklin, IU, Tulane) no ii's
3.12c 3.06s 31Q (12 BS, 10 PS, 9 VR) , non-URM and meh EC's

I didn't have high hopes for this cycle to begin with, but the wait is just killer

🙁

Hi All,

Haven't been on SDN in a while since life has been pretty busy. Always fun to read up on the panic thread and start panicking myself. Hoping for the best for everyone on here. I get more and more nervous as the days go on and more of my friends get acceptances while I keep hoping to hear from more schools and even become complete at a few schools. Hopefully all of us will get a chance to look at these posts one day and laugh once we're in medical school about how neurotic we all seemed when we didn't know if we'd make it.

Best wishes to all of you and hopefully we get some good "presents" for the Holidays.

👍 Pharm tech is an awesome gap year. 👍

I don't know about your state but the MO pharm tech exam is super easy. Many pharmacies here hire without prev. work experience (ie with no certification) and reimburse for the exam fee.

being a pharm tech kinda sucks in ny/nj...but you get a decent amount of clinical exposure
