...i hope you're right bearstronaut.
There's absolutely nothing untrustworthy about a bear who snuck his way into NASA.
😀
In all seriousness, though, I had the same doubts myself, then saw some of the older school-specific threads. Had a bunch of people reporting IIs in January and some even in February. I imagine that around New Years the people who have heard back from most everywhere already withdraw from a bunch of places, opening up potential spots for everyone else.
Every year's different, but there's nothing wrong with hope
🙂 It may not feel like it, but we're only at about the halfway point for the application season (not even halfway if you think of the season as going until May).
Ummm.... I haven't heard back from 25 schools. I just got my complete message from RFU even though my last LOR got in two weeks ago (she was a supplementary LOR so most schools didn't care).
Because of ONE LOR, whom I'd been kindly asking to finish since May, my app only got complete for many schools on 10/26. (She was my volunteer coordinator, so supplemental, but still)
It could be worse.... I mean, at least I got an interview!
Friend of mine just asked about this - got a letter from somebody important to his app (PI maybe?) just a few days ago, wondering when/how to send it in. Guess it'd suck if it reset his application or something.
Another no interview Monday. 🙁
I know beggers can't be choosers but, I have been really down on myself, because I am seeing friends that studied just as hard as me, made the same grades as me in all of our college classes, get more interviews/acceptances to top 25 medical schools because they scored 3 points higher than me on the mcat. I have way better EC's and a slightly better gpa (.1), but their mcat score is three points higher so I guess I won't get into a single mid-tier medical school (ranked 25-50 medical school) but they will get into high-tier (top 25) medical schools. 🙁🙁 I know that I need to get one acceptance first before I can focus on tiers of medical schools, but with 4 Texas interviews, I should be able to get into one low-tier medical school.
Starting to wonder where I went wrong in life.
People with top MCATs on this board like to deny it, but (speaking as someone with a decently high MCAT): the MCAT categorizes people at a lot of schools. You're mostly competing with people who got the same scores as you, and not with the people 3 points higher, who will all get interviews first. I don't know if it's because that's the easiest way to do things, or because schools are ranked in some ways by how high their MCAT average is, but there it is. Comparing yourself to them is only going to hurt you mentally in the end, because even if statistically there's no difference between you and them intellectually, that six hours of your life will echo throughout this process.
I suppose it's good preparation for the boards. That being said, there are many schools, at the top, middle, and bottom, who are very holistic about how they take candidates, and you can see it in their school-specific threads.
You also have to remember that your ECs may be great, but other people may have similar ECs already, and no school wants a class composed entirely of Carnegie-level piano players. If someone got there first, well, that's the luck of the draw in this process.
Harsh truths aside, keep your head up!
🙂 There's a TON of time left, and if you applied late there's a great chance the schools you're dreaming of haven't even gotten to your application yet.
Starting to worry. Applied to 39 schools (mostly MD, about 7 DO). 5 rejections. 1 interview invite at an MD school. 1 hold. 2 small pools.
Focus on the II you have, not what you haven't heard back from yet
👍 If you got an II somewhere, it means an adcom somewhere thinks you're good enough to be a doctor. Even if they're the only ones and it doesn't work out this year, that's a huge vote of confidence in your dream. You'll get it eventually!
