Probably forgot to press "submit application" on AMCAS... after allll this time....
It hurts to repeat this from above but:Probably forgot to press "submit application" on AMCAS... after allll this time....
lol joking aside, when were you complete? What are your stats?
It hurts to repeat this from above but:
"Submitted AMCAS on 9/7. Applied to 12 schools. Outright rejected from 6. 3 others I know are definitely done offering interviews (rejection implied). 3 others silent, and of these three others, my applications were complete on 12/16 (Tufts), 10/14 (UVM), and 10/31 (SUNY Upstate). Tufts is done offering interviews unless spots open up from people dropping out of interviews. UVM is still a slight possibility, but I haven't been small pooled there yet (which needs to happen before getting an II). SUNY's last interview date is 3/6, and so if they were going to give me an II I'd probably get it today...haven't gotten it. So yeah...sad violin music."
Stats: MCAT 29Q, BA in Biological Sciences from Cornell, GPA 3.5, SciGPA 3.1
According to a woman I "debriefed" with a little over a month ago (post rejection meeting to discuss future strategies)...I'll not name the school..."I would make an amazing doctor...older, more mature, and with wonderful experience that shows real interest and not just 'resume padding'...but your numbers just aren't good enough." Oh, and her suggestion was to take another 2 years off...(I've already taken 2 doing a job that I really like in a field related to my interests)...do a MS...hire a private tutor...retake the MCAT...$$$$$$$...and still no guarantee of getting in two years from now.
Oh yes...yes...thanks for telling me what a great doctor I'd be...but too bad, right? If you think I'd be that great, why not offer me a freaking interview? The day of that damn meeting was a very bad day. I realize she was trying to help...but I took a half day off work to go in and hear about my weaknesses...things I already know.

Hey everybody, first time poster on this thread. I'm a reapplicant so the word "panic" is near and dear to me. I applied pretty late (around Sept) last year to 15 schools and had 3 II's, I got WL at 2 and rejected at the other. This year I applied ASAP to 20 schools and have had 6 interviews so far with another one this week. Unfortunately I've been WL at FIVE SCHOOLS and waiting to hear back from the last one. I'm still holding out some hope for that last deciison and my upcoming interview but I've also kind of resigned to the notion that I will find out my fate only after May 15. I was just wondering if you guys would happen to know how much WL movement there is at SUNY Upstate, Penn State, Tufts, Temple, Albany, SUNY Downstate, and SUNY Buffalo. I do my due diligence looking through previous years' sdn threads for the schools but it's always hard to keep all that information straight and I figure sdn is a good resource for neurotic premeds (myself included) who would know these sort of things. Anyways, I just wanted to gauge what my chances are, any help is much appreciated! Good luck to all of you!
YESSSSSS!!!!!
No rejection emails today! Empty inbox- so happy right now!
Hey people, we need to find something to celebrate.
Absolutely no signs of life on my end either!!!![]()
Thanks for your encouragement/advice...but...Aww man. Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll make a great doctor but yeah, she's absolutely right. You NEED to retake the MCAT to make up for that GPA. It might have been fine had your GPA been like 3.8. But you don't really have much in the way of numbers that compensates.
Your cGPA is fine. I have the same cGPA and I had 4 interviews despite applying superlate. Your sGPA is highly problematic. If I were you, I'd do an MS and take upper level science courses to make up for your sGPA. My sGPA is in the 3.3-3.4 range, but below 3.2 most schools don't even look. Also 12 schools is a very low number, at it seems to me you applied a bit top heavy.
Honestly, I'd retake the MCAT and apply again this summer. An SMP or MS program would be a good idea. Apply early, and choose more wisely. Choose more nontrad friendly schools, your state schools, and schools that tend to forgive low GPAs. None of the schools you chose really fall into that category. I'm sure that with your life experience you'll ace whatever interviews you get. You probably just didn't pass the screening process at many schools. With your stats, an MCAT of over 33 will put you back in the running to make up for the 3.1.
Best of luck!!
Sorry about this dude...and sorry if I sounded ungrateful toward your advice...I'm just going through a rough time and a lot of disillusionment with this whole process. I sincerely hope, though, that something works out for you. Thank you, and stay strong! Best luck.I can't say this much. Rejected from Columbia today, NYU yesterday. Not like I expected much. Still haven't heard from NYMC. I know a student there who said I'd probably get an II with my app. Aw well....
With 5+ waitlists, I imagine you have a good shot at getting in somewhere. I would check the school specific threads from last cycle to see how much waitlist movement there is. I am waitlisted at Albany as well and they typically had large waitlist movement. However they changed their interview format to MMI and were able to interview a lot more people this cycle so it is difficult to say whether their waitlist will have typical movement or not.
SUNY buffalo I was told that nearly 70% of the class comes from the wait list. If you are on the middle or top third usually both those third completely get in. Check out the SUNY buffalo wait list thread from last year for some encouragement!
I hear that there is a lot of wait-list movement at SUNY Downstate, SUNY Upstate, and SUNY Buffalo. I think you will have a good shot at getting into Upstate if you are on the HPA list based on previous years. But this year Upstate also moved to using the MMI so I"m not sure if they ended up interviewing more people than intended. Albany generally sees a lot of movement. I'm not sure about Penn State. I know that with Tufts, they don't wait-list people until they email the deferred people if they would like a seat on the wait-list... But I think you have a good list of schools that see a lot of movement in May. GOOD LUCK!!!
I do not know how many months/years this application cycle/ lurking on this thread has taken off of my life..but I can officially say it is now over! FIRST acceptance yesterday to UF College of Medicine. The day before I received a last minute interview with FSU COM.
The best advice I can give (this is how I got all 3 of my interviews) 1. email to show interest - and don't just email the regular admissions..email the COORDINATOR. 2. make the email awesome -specific reseasons why you are best fit there (maybe they have an awesome research/community outreach/student pipeline program) 4 to 5 sentences top. 3. Call and inquire on your application. With luck they will write down your name.
By the way I am a reapplicant after not completing my secondaries last year due to DENTAL illness! Damn those dentists taking all my mula, but it's all worth it and that much "sweeter" 🙂
Accepted a few days ago. No more worrying! Best of luck to those still waiting it out! 😀
Probably forgot to press "submit application" on AMCAS... after allll this time....

Why not DO? I heard NECOM is great, among others. Thanks for your encouragement/advice...but...
1. I applied to all 9 medical schools in New England, plus my alma mater (Cornell), plus 2 others suggested by a mentor (Penn State and SUNY Upstate). In my opinion, I DID choose wisely for what I want for my future. I didn't compromise. In doing so, I realized when I applied, of course, that my list was short, compared to most applicants, and that it was, as you say "top heavy." But I want to stay in New England and establish myself here because I want to settle here. Also I live with my boyfriend, and he's a grad student at Tufts, which is another factor which encourages me to stay in New England, obviously.
2. I applied to MD/PhD programs wherever possible (long shot, but huge financial upside and I enjoy research...so what is there to lose, because if they reject me I'll just get dropped into the MD only pools...). My interest in research also makes me flexible, as far as moving forward. I know that the field and career I want to someday be involved in can be approached from multiple paths...not just MD.
3. I am never retaking the MCAT. I've done it twice already...and the more you do it the worse it looks on applications anyway.
4. The only shot I have left...sort of...is UVM at this point. If that doesn't work out, I'm going to grad school. I'm ready to MOVE ON with my life. Things happen for a reason. I am proud of my undergraduate achievements, and if medical schools can't get past my "deficiencies" in that area to give me a fighting chance then maybe I don't belong there anyway. I don't like being made to feel that I have to "compensate" for something...or that my GPA is "highly problematic". I have the potential, as I am now, to make contributions to my field of interest, and to pursue higher education.
5. I know I will make a great doctor. Just maybe a different kind...
#endquasirant
Maybe...I still have time to look into it. Thanks again. We'll see what happens. Why not DO? I heard NECOM is great, among others.
Crickets everywhere for me (UVM, Tufts, and SUNY Upstate)Have seen a flood of interviews in some of the school specific threads for schools I'm still waiting to hear from. It's awesome seeing SDN'ers get these IIs, but panic-inducing because I'm left thinking "well that's the last wave, oh well"
+1as an aside, i would like to be accepted so that i can stop confusing my amcas number and my ssn
When does AMCAS application open this year? Early may?

Sorry to hear about the rejections. Come to grad school with me, buddy....haha...kidding...sounds like you're determined for MD. If so, best of luck. My only hope left is UVM and I have no idea what my chances are there. And even if I DO get an interview, they could keep me on that damn wait-list until right before school starts...beginning to question if its worth it (esp. for the price tag). Oh well...sending my 2nd letter of interest/update letter tonight, and I still haven't even been small pooled...we'll see if anything comes of it.Rejected from Einstein. AND from one of the schools I just interviewed at that is known for never rejecting people post-interview! I wish people didnt care so much about sparing my feelings and just told me what's wrong!!! I wish I knew why people clearly saw me as a (maybe more than a little) off? I was confident about that interview too!! And my latest interview only lasted 30 mins whereas most of the interviewees' lasted an hour so not much hope for that either.
In light of my lousy interview skills (where do people learn them anyway? Not even a coach worked!) I am pretty much resolved that I am not getting in anywhere this cycle.
Lets hope that I'll get better results mext cycle when I'm complete in June versus late October.

20 applications. 15 rejections. 2 silences. 3 post-interview silences, each persisting over three months. Nobody likes me 🙁
Sorry to hear, I'm in the same boat. Hope you hear good news soon! As for me, I'm currently writing a paper on SSRIs and I'm starting to feel like I might need 'em 🙁
My last interview tomorrow, nervous as hell! Trying hard to remain confident, but the negative responses from my other interviews are scaring me for this one as well
Good luck!
In other news, Mac Pages crashed while I was trying to save and I lost a day's worth of hard work on said paper. More reasons to panic!!!!!!!

going to jump in on this thread. 2 post interview decisions so far and both waitlists. i feel like this late in the cycle, most of my decisions are going to be waitlists 🙁 waiting on 4 more decisions but i feel pretty discouraged as of now.
I totally get your feels. We all cope differently with nervousness and anxiousness, but I found that really socializing with the fellow interviewees in the holding tank helped take my mind off of the actual interview(s), and it helped drop my guard down. By the time you get to the actual interview, you're feeling sociable/excited/enthusiastic and this energy totally translates to your interviewer.
Just my $0.02 🙂 Good luck dude. Kill that ish.
I believe their last interview is somewhere around the second week in April, usually. This year it might be April 18th? Where are you getting your information? I've been stalking the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 UVM thread like crazy lately and I haven't heard anything like this yet. (But trust me, if you know that they're probably mostly filled up for interviews now, I'd like to know/hear more details!!!! Bad news is better than no news for me at this point!) THANKS.I believe the chances at UVM are slim to none. They should be all booked up for the next month. Not sure when they interview till, but even with an early interview your chances are only 1/3.

Thanks! Just you wait, all the bad luck will suddenly reverse in the next few months. Panic->Chilling

Haha dude...if you read my earlier posts you would realize that I am MORE than ready to be done with this and move on. And, NOTHING makes me think I'll get an II!....nothing at all...quite the contrary...I have no false hope of getting one...I'm not stupid. I'm just trying to see whether or not there's actually a prayer or not, because this last decision is, realistically, the only thing between me and moving on with figuring out my future...but I don't want to jump the gun on that whole moving on and changing the course of my life thing. And I know that 1/3 statistic already. And yes, if I were going to do the medical school applications thing a third time I realize I should already be getting ready, obviously. BUT screw that noise! Time for something new (AKA Grad school) if UVM doesn't give me an II.I interviewed there earlier this year. I booked my interview around 1 month in advance- by the sound of it, most people did.
They still interview till mid April, but if you haven't gotten an interview so far, what makes you think you will suddenly get one now? It doesn't seem likely. And even after interview, only 1/3 of the interviewee are accepted (MSAR stats). Plus interviewing later tends to decrease your chances even more. Not trying to hate, but I would get prepping for a reapp.
