I believe it is the number 50, but double-check when you are there. Map says it is 50 too. But there was something really counterintuitive about it, I forget exactly what, so double-check. (Map on PDF.) (Main CENTRO site.)

To get from the transit center to downtown a/o Upstate proper, take basically any bus from the transit center. There is not a huge hurry there and the driver, etc. can advise you.

I strongly recommend staying in the dorms/apartments if offered. They opened up this possibility after I had already booked my motel. I like my privacy and the bookage was not refundable. How bad could the cab possibly be, I thought? A few miles away, etc.. Turns out the cab was another $40-$45 both ways to and from the motel. Should have gone for the dorm even with the booking already in place.

That said, I used Salt City taxi, (315) 476-2772, and they arrived on time with zero stress (not a small thing in a non-densely-urban cab company).

I suggest the Maplewood Inn. It was 80 for a night, and there is a complimentary shuttle that picks you up from the airport, takes you to your interview, and back to the airport.

I scheduled yesterday.. but i didnt read the sdn page before so I called the office today. One person told me it should be ok.. but then i had to speak to another women whose directly in charge and she said that it wont hold in the system till you get the official email.

Does anyone know how many II's were given out this year? In the past its about 600 in state interviews granted, but I'm wondering if our post interview acceptance rates are going to be lower this year due to more interviews being granted as a result of the new MMI style interviews.

Maybe you should call admissions? During my interview, they said we should hear back in 2-3 weeks and if we didn't hear back by the 4th week we should probably check in with them.

To Trisphorin and others...this sounds like the way to go to me. IMO at least an extra $30 is nothing if it means a room to oneself. I'd be happy to chill with other interviewees, but not the night before! 😀

Also, as a general note about the area, prepare to be pleasantly surprised by Syracuse. The press is just awful, but if you can take an interest in any other East Coast college town, why not enjoy Syracuse as well? It is a small city, in fact, not a college town. I had a couple of good meals, checked out a cafe, all that. Everyone on the street was really mellow, gave a genuine hello, etc. This is the alternative paper: http://www.syracusenewtimes.com/ The major impediment to a really great experience seems to be grocery shopping without a car. They do, however, have a Zipcar lot right by campus.

And I went to a standard nothing-special weekday talk (at one of the science depts.) and they had a MONSTER assortment of beer. Not a colloquium, not an endowed seminar speaker...I'm just saying.

Can a current Upstate student elaborate on the effects of the recent LCME probation? I didn't feel it was adequately addressed at the interview. I understand that this was a result of administrative issues rather than curricular, but will this have any significant bearing on residency placements in the future?

I think their 2012 match list looked fine. You can google it and look at it yourself.

For both. Even if you didn't interview yet, you don't need to complete them. Apparently it's an error from last year

Not that I don't trust you specifically, but there are viscous people on these websites who might say to disregard the essays just to screw over others and gain an edge. So i thought the responsible thing to do would be to call myself. For those of you who are concerned about whether the info is accurate I stand as a second voice confirming that the essay questions are indeed a glitch and can be disregarded.

Hey Guys,
Just want to get your opinion on this. As most of you know SUNY Upstate is in Probation due to some minor irregularities in their curriculum.

They assured us on the Interview day that there is nothing to worry about and that the problem has been all but resolved.

I was just curious if anyone else is thinking about how this is affecting their admission process. Do you believe less people are applying because of this? Do you think they will offer more people admission because they think many will hesitate to matriculate at a school which is on probation?

I have absolutely nothing against SUNY, I'm not posting this as hate-propaganda or anything. On the contrary, I actually want to study at SUNY and am just trying to get a better understanding on the issue.

Lastly, just for my knowledge, on US News Medical School rankings, SUNY is listed as "unranked". Is that because of the probationary status or is it because it is literally unranked?

Any input will be greatly appreciated 🙂. Best of luck to everyone in this cycle I hope everyone gets what they want 😛
