Got it too man, I don't know if I should. On interview day they said the program is super intense since its so short and they have to cram so much in a short period of time. Let me know what you think about it. Another thing is that I would have to move there early and I kinda want to enjoy my last summer before my life is over 🙂

On my interview day they said they only have 40 spots and they give preference to people who have had time away from school and non-trads. I talked to two students who did it, and they said it made the year a lot more tolerable. One was married and said it made the adjustment far smoother. They both mentioned that it was fairly intense.

Whats this about Suny Upstate being a knock off ivy? Like this school but have never heard this before..?

Someone a page or two back said this. Notb sure what the basis for it is..

Any thoughts on prospects for people put on hold for this school? On hold since early September. Can I consider myself rejected?

was on hold since early september, rejected friday evening. 🙁

Hello everyone!

I'm in a predicament. I was accepted to SUNY Upstate a few weeks ago. It's my top choice school, mainly because I was selected for the Binghamton Campus.

Yesterday, however, my dad got a job closer to Syracuse. This has caught me off guard because I really want to go to Upstate and stay close with my family.

Does anyone know if there is a process for switching? or if you know anyone that would want to switch campuses?

I hope this was the right thread for this question. This is my first post on SDN.

I appreciate your help!

🙂

I believe you can trade places with someone who wants the Binghamton campus

Not for me. Krystal said she would call those accepted and send an email when the meet. My thinking was that this was this week sometime.

Just got the call from Krystal about 45 minutes ago! Accepted!

Congrats! I left my phone and got a missed call from Upstate around the same time but no voicemail. I'm going crazy! Did you get an email? I tried calling the office but got her voicemail..it was after 5 though..

She told me that she actually was on her way out when she called me and that e-mails would be sent out tomorrow, so hang tight!

OK that's slightly reassuring. Hopefully I'll hear back form her in the morning. Thanks!

She called me back this morning: accepted! First acceptance so I'm thrilled!!

Does anyone know how they handle MD/PhD applications that don't get accepted initially? Will I be getting a waitlist/rejection letter or is this one of the places where I won't find out where I stand until much later?

I'm not sure how easy it is to switch. I've experienced both campuses and I would caution you or anyone else from choosing Binghamton. If I had to do it over again, I would not in a million years choose Binghamton. Don't believe it when they say that the experiences are equal. The campus removed from the rest of the school, the teaching is not as good and you are driving a huge amount from hospital to hospital. PLUS, most people move back their fourth year. That was my experience at least. Talk to current students if you want to know what it is like now (and try to switch).

How long on average for post interview decision :O

Does anyone have an idea when the adcom might meet again? I interviewed towards the end of December and I'm dying to find something out!

Has anyone called to ask about where they stand on the HPA list? I'm wondering when they can start giving out that information. I'm getting antsy.

Has anyone heard anything recently? and when did you interview?

Rejected. Have been on hold since early September.

Finally rejected from this lame excuse for a medical school! Pre-interview hold in mid-Sept.

Than why did you pay money to apply?
I would hope we are past the immature blame everyone else mindset by now.

Hey guys.

Summer anatomy isn't cramming. You still have the same lectures and enough time for dissection. It's just that you go to lectures 4 or 5 days a week in the summer instead of 3 days a week in the Fall. It is intense, but you only have that one class to study for. And you'll appreciate it a lot more in the Fall when your other classmates are jealous of you not having to take Anatomy class.

Anyhow, if you really want to have this summer off, then don't take it, but remember you'll have to work harder in Fall with a full course load.

If you have been out of school for a little bit, and need to get your feet wet again before diving into intense studying, then take summer anatomy.

Anatomy has 4 units with 4 unit exams. Summer runs from beginning of june to end of july (2 months). Fall runs from mid august to end of november (3.5 months).

Here's the link to 2012-2013 curriculum to have an idea of how classes spread out in blocks/units

http://www.upstate.edu/com/curriculum/courses/12_curriculum_orientation.pdf

If you're accepted to Summer anatomy and decide not to do it, please please let the school know asap so they can fill the spot, giving other student filling your spot enough time to arrange their housing and moving situation.

Thanks, I am considering taking summer anatomy so this was really informative.

Do you know the average class size for summer anatomy? I heard from some that people who take summer anatomy are isolated from their class bc they don't "bond" with others as they are taking anatomy in the fall. Any truth to this?

Summer anatomy has same lab with PT (physical therapy) and PA, though we usually just work with our own section of the lab because different colleges have different objectives. There will be 40 med students in summer anatomy.

I guess there's some truth in the not bonding part, but not because summer anatomy kids are not well accepted in the general population. It's more because summer anatomy students form pretty good relationship with other classmates during summer lab already and usually are satisfied with hanging out within their own small groups. If you're the type of person that likes expanding your friend circle, you won't have any problem hanging out with the rest of the class. And I think most of the "bonding" is kinda happen during outing events and partying (won't be lacking of that, thanks to your future class officers) anyway. You can't be friends with every single person in your class. You'll find your group or groups of friends quickly.

That makes sense. Thanks for the insight!

Good to know 😀

Does anyone have any idea when second look is?

I was thinking about taking it too, but I agree about the isolation part, that is my one concern too since you are not with about another 110 students of the class

Hey let me know how second look is if you go, I am too far to travel all that way, but want to know what other information they give that day

I will definitely be going seeing as I only live about an hour away. Just don't know when it is haha.

Hey everyone this is my first post on this. I got accepted to upstate about a month ago and will definitely be attending. Does anyone know if/when we get a list of materials we need to buy for medical school?

+1

Not that it matters... I'll be attending Upstate for sure. Just wanna go see the school again 😀

Woo! My decision comes down to Upstate and another school. So there is a good chance I could be attending here. I will know for sure in the coming weeks when I finally get a decision for my other choice.
