Take whoever you trust and respect their judgement. This is a big decision and the more people you have with you help the better lol. I know many in my class who took parents to this and the M1 welcome in summer.

Actually we have to organizations that parent/spouses may be interested in.

Parents of Med Students group: where they make "care packages" for us with goodies before exams and keep us motivated throughout the year. Love them!

Married to Med Students group: this one is new and one my SO is super involved in! They have monthly meet ups where spouses get to vent and support each other... I think knowing they are not alone really helps- especially the parents! There are family events like pumpkin patch/hayrides in Oct as well as dinners/drinks.

Man, this is all really great info. Thanks!

PS I didn't mean to step on any toes with my response to the "who to bring" question. Thanks for your input.

Thank you both! That is very helpful! I feared I was going to be the only one who showed up with my parents.

I'm sure I'll hear this on Saturday but I am inpatient, so do you know about when we will rank our track preferences and find out? I'm trying to start planning. Thanks!

I think just after Match- like Feb 2nd you are asked to write an essay explaining you top 3 choices. I think they look all the reasons... family, employment, academic advancement/ research wanting to be done...

You find out a month later... March 10ish time what the decision is... so plenty time to organize apts etc Most of us didn't sign leases till May/June time.

For anyone still waiting for an interview, I sent a letter of interest to the dean of admissions. He responded to my email personally and invited me to interview!

Awesome!!! Congrats! Was it Filo? He's always so positive and helpful

Congrats! That's awesome. OOS here (living in TX but not a resident), no interview, and I've pretty much accepted reality. Was one of my top two choices though.

I think I've given up on an interview as well. Also wrote a letter to FILO, but didn't get a response. A&m was in my top 4. I'm glad to have had interviews at my top two choices. My interest was in primary care and my stats are lower so I thought maybe I'd hear from a&m and the techs. Instead I heard from schools that I thought I had no shot at getting interviewed at. Funny how things pan out and how random this process can be.

Yeah it was Filo. I was so amazed that he responded. I'm not sure if it made a difference but I sent it from my A&M hsc email instead of the hotmail account I had listed on my app so I was sure it wouldn't get filtered.

And thanks for the congrats! I am really excited to check out the school! I am a distance public health student so I've only been on campus twice.

Me too! I'm interested in primary care and thought I'd hear from A&M and the Tech schools first. Then got interviewed at schools I thought I had no shot at. I didn't get a response from A&M after my update letter but did from Tech. It's a shame A&M was my top choice. 🙁

Hey how did the meet and greet go yesterday? I'm bummed I couldn't make it!

I thought it was excellent, though I am constantly in a state of euphoria due to the early acceptance. I got a bunch of my questions answers, tour from a current medical school student and just enjoyed the atmosphere. I got to meet another member from SDN which was awesome!

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to let you all know that I received an II on Nov 30, but due to having prematched at higher ranked schools I wont be accepting it.

I hope one of you still waiting gets my spot!
Just fyi, 3.6/32/IS/ non-trad, complete 8/28

Nice! Just received a one-time $5000 scholarship + first choice of campus designation

did you receive this in the mail? ohhh I wish I get something like that!

Oh my gosh that would be nice to receive a pre-match AND money. What campus designation are you thinking Reptar?

Definitely CS 2years + Dallas 2years

I'm at a bit of a situation though... I'm still deciding between here and other schools. I would feel terrible if I accepted this scholarship without knowing 100% that I'm matriculating. What do ya'll think? Should I accept the scholarship anyway?

Even with the scholarship are you seriously considering A&M? I noticed that you ranked it 7th and have been accepted to other schools you ranked much higher. If you have 0 plans of attending I would not take it, however if this scholarship has changed your mind and you have the slightest chance of deciding to go to A&M I would accept it.

IMO, Until you are accepted to a school you are 100% going to choose over this one, you should definitely take it.The only effect you can possibly have on the system is delaying the inevitable - the money will surely go to another deserving applicant later on as well.

did anyone get a response when they sent in that confirmation of acceptance form?

I called in and got a confirmation that they received my acknowledgement. A few hours later I also received an email confirming receipt.

It was a hard decision, but I turned down my prematch offer so hopefully that opens up a spot for someone who really wants to go here!

Anyone know if any more interview invites are going out? What's the last date?

I called yesterday and they said they were pretty much done sending invites unless there were cancellations.

Darn, I was hoping they were still extending a few more interview invites. Thanks!

I see the higher ranked school was UTSA. I interviewed there as well, so I'm wondering what made you chose UTSA over A&M? Did you chose it solely based on rankings?

I applied october 1st and just got an ii earlier this afternoon.

There is still hope. They had openings for Dec 13th and 20th.

Interview invite for Jan. 10! 😎

Did not see this coming. I thought for sure it was time to put away my suit and all my travel gear because my medical school interview season was over. I have been complete since September.

Excited to see this school and grateful for another opportunity to interview!

Interview invite as well today. I turned it down though because I got accepted to a school I would have ranked higher. Good luck to all and maybe someone else will get my spot !

I have been following this thread. Congrats on the recent invites! Maybe there is still hope for me to get one. I am interested in their MD Plus program and I completed a summer REU in 2007 at the main campus. Keeping my fingers cross!

Thanks for being so considerate of others Bolly, congrats on the acceptance!

I have withdrawn my application post interview invite, hope it goes to one of you!

+1

I am withdrawing my application here as well. I was recently accepted by my dream school and plan to matriculate there. I hope my interview slot goes to one of you.

I was very excited to check out this school but after thinking about it, it would be a much more considerate move to give my spot to someone else so that they have the chance to interview here. Best of luck to everyone 👍

I interviewed here on 12/13 and absolutely loved it! A&M is definitely my #1 choice (although, part of this probably has to do with the fact that this is the one and only interview invite I've received )

I thought this place had a really laid back and familial culture. The curriculum is fantastic (it strikes the right balance between the orthodox, modular approach of learning a couple of the basic science subjects at a time and the newer emphasis on integrating basic sciences with clinically relevant material early on). Temple is a really quaint town but I think it'd be great for me as I'd be much less likely to get distracted here than in a bigger city.

I loved the way Leila broke down the pros and cons of each campus. I thought she did a really fantastic job and it'll make my job of choosing that much harder. I had a faint idea that I'd like to do CS/Dallas as my first choice, but I thought Leila did great job of emphasizing the strengths of doing all 4 years at Temple (for example).

Anyways, this is all probably moot because the probability that I'll be accepted to any medical school given that I've only received one interview invite is so astronomically low that I've sort of given up hope this year 🙁, but I'm used to disappointment so this is nothing new. I'll come back stronger 2 years from now and apply again. If that doesn't work? I'll come back stronger 1-2 years from then and apply again.

But, you know, all in all I have to say I really appreciate the fact that I at least have a chance somewhere. It's an absolute dream come true for me. It quite literally brought tears to my eyes (in fact the day I received the phone call that I had been invited to interview, I was heading home from work and had to pull over because I just couldn't stop crying (tears of joy! 🙂)

Anyways, best of luck to all of you going through this process, and congratulations to those holding pre-match offers of acceptance (here at A&M or any Texas medical school)!

Tx med.. I predict you will get especially since A&Ms post interview acceptance rAte is 70 percent. Write a letter of intent/update to FILO that this school is your top choice and I think you will def get in. Rooting for you!

Wow is it really that high 😱? That would be awesome if true! Are you sure that doesn't reflect the abnormally high number of pre-match offers A&M sent out in 2009/2010/(2011?).

From what I understand, Leila said they gave 3:1 prematch offers to the number of seats they intended on filling (150 I believe), and they overfilled the class by 80 or so.

They've increased the number of seats to 200 since then, but they've also significantly toned back on pre-match offers for the 2012-2013 cycle. I believe she said that there are 224 people currently holding pre-match offers of acceptance and that they wanted to keep the ratio of pre-match offers: seats closer to 1:1 this time around.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement! I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

I was in your exact same position, one interview and fell in love with the campus and lifestyle. Luckily I was accepted and I feel you have an excellent chance as post interview acceptance rate is 70+ percent. Keep your head up, hopefully we will be classmates!

How Exciting! Congrats!
I think I need to send a letter of interest to Filo as well...
I have 3 degrees from the A&M System and I havent received an II from TAMHSC 🙁
which is a little disappointing.... If accepted to TAMHSC I would definitely attend, with or w/out scholarship offers!
What is the best way to put it tho w/out sounding desperate?!
Anyone who has written a successful letter of interest please feel free to jump in! :luck:
