Does any one else have weird (html?) code (like below) showing on their secondary after submission.

mine looks like that too, not sure if its supposed to

Y'all using internet explorer? Or Firefox? Mine did something like that when using Firefox. It seemed ok on both internet explorer and chrome though.

I'm guessing you copy and pasted the text from a word document? I was told not to do that for the risk of formatting errors.

^^Did you apply early decision or something? My application has been complete for nearly 6 weeks and I have not heard anything from this school yet 🙁 I am OOS so I thought maybe that was the reason, but I guess not

Like others I loved the school as a well. The interviews were interesting, and more like discussions. Really enjoyed.

I'm interviewing at Texas Tech in October. I'm OOS, and Lubbock seems like a pretty dead place but the school seems great. What did you like about the school? Also, what are some good things about Lubbock that I can sell to my wife?

Do you guys think --current student feedback very appreciated---- that a doctor LOR would help any? if so, I have a DO LOR so far and an MD is in the process of writing one...should I send both, wait for MD, send DO now? dunno, maybe DO is not taken much into consideration since this is an MD school.

BTW, if you ask me, a physician is a physician regardless of letters, but you never know with ADCOM.

Input appreciated!

cbas,
with a disclaimer: I am older than most applicants, married with 2 kids. So I am seeing things from my own perspective.
1) The location wouldn't be ideal if all I wanted was to go to bars, drink and pickup chicks. However as a father of 2 kids, with my kind of responsibilities, I think the place is ideal. For one thing, cost of living is low. I will have to borrow more money that a traditional student, and this money will go further over Lubbock. Secondly the weather is nicer than many other places in Texas. Cool evenings and mornings. During my stay, I enjoyed that, even if it was for 2 days only. So I would definitely want to live there. The location is very "conducive" to the pursuit of my own goals. And the cherry on the cake: No traffic! For me, it is a huge plus.

2) The school is great. Facilities, students and faculty were all great. The sim lab is very cool, with surgery stuff, Harveys and 3D displays. Buildings, student center, gym are simply great. The interviewers I had were very kind, and the students extremely helpful.
So for me, all around, it clicked really well. It is more a feeling than a rational reaction. I just enjoyed being there, and discovering the place.

Now the truth is that I interviewed at UTMB as well and will interview at UTSW. I enjoyed UTMB and I am sure UTSW will not disappoint me. For me, it is kind of the big meeting to come. If anyone of these school accepts me, I am lucky. Of course financial burden and feasibility will weigh quite a lot (and being a father of 2 kids, you can imagine).

Good luck for your interview. I bet you will enjoy it.

I think the DO letter will be fine. I would pick the letter that is strongest/the doctor who knew you the best.

I just interviewed here yesterday. The school looks pretty great and everyone there seems to love it. My interviews were very casual and I think they went well. Only negative, in my opinion, is the location. Lubbock is okay, but REALLY far from any big city. I also witnessed a dust storm! haha
Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!

For those of you that have already interviewed, did you have any trouble making it to the airport afterwards? There's a 6:15 flight that would be really convenient for me, but I'm worried about missing it and being stuck without a place to stay.

Also, did they have any place to keep luggage during the day?

You'll have plenty of time! I had a 7:30 flight & I waited over 2 hours to board. & yes they have a place for your luggage & they"ll take you to the airport after.

Lubbock airport is so small, you won't have to worry about security and the day was done by 415 basically. You'll have plenty of time, the airport is about a twenty minute drive.

For those of you who are flying out straight from the interview:

What do you do about clothing? I don't want to fly in my suit. I think it would be strange to change at the school before catching a shuttle/cab. I also think changing in the airport is weird.

How do you all handle this?

I changed at the airport. It wasnt that weird.

There were a couple MD/MBA interviewees on my interview day. One of the MD/MBA 2nd years basically made it sound like MD picks first, and then the MBA school chooses from those accepted.

I believe that's how it goes. Some people think that picking MD/MBA gives them an advantage somehow, but my understanding is that getting accepted to both is two completely separate processes.

I believe that is what they mentioned last year. You have to get accepted into both programs and then they work out the schedule or something.

Seems like there hasn't been any activity in the admissions office for the last week. I wonder if they will be sending out invites this week.

How long did it take to get a confirmation email after turning in your secondary?

Pretty sure they don't do confirmation emails. But rest assured your application will be complete by them as soon as TMDSAS receives everything and when your secondary and fee is paid.

Just got in EDP!

Nice, gratz!!!

I just got an II today. I submitted my secondary July 23. This was their first communication since i submitted, so for those asking about confirmation emails, no they do not send an email until IIs.

Interview invite today for 10/26/12.

Awesome, thanks. That puts it into perspective and allays much of my neuroticism.

Mind sharing stats and whether you're IS or OOS? Thanks!

Science GPA 3.33
Non-Science GPA 3.30
MCAT 11B 11P 9V PW
Volunteer activities at two organizations.
In state

-GPA a bit low :\ , however an upward trend is shown.

Tech is so awesome. I believe they are more holistic regarding the way they do apps so that generally leads to a really awesome bunch of interviewees and incoming class. They stress the student camaraderie over and over again. The students there don't compete for grades and are encouraged to work collaboratively - just like how real world medicine should work. It's an amazing atmosphere. 😍

That's what I like and expect at a medical school.

Submitted my secondary today! Time to play the waiting game!

Transmitted to this school on 5/18. Completed my secondary in early July. I have had interviews from other Texas schools. I applied MD/MBA for this school. Still nothing from this school. Starting to lose hope for an interview from this school. 🙁

I don't think that the MBA application weights against or for, it is a separate thing, and I think that if you get in MD, then you get in MD no matter what the MBA application says.
Now I interviewed there and I personally liked it a lot.
I know you interviewed in many schools in TX so I am not sure why they didn't invite you, and quite frankly the process is very weird (I have posted about this elsewhere). So chances are you will match somewhere. But personally, and not to rub it in, I did love that school.
Hang in there, who knows you may well get an II. I am in the same situation for 5 schools and I am thinking given my numbers (MCAT=36, uGPA=4.0) and how early I applied (May 15), I should have been invited with the first batches, so now, it seems I just wont get any invite from the schools that didn't invite me earlier. I am also a non-trad applicant, so perhaps I was not favored because of that as well, who knows.

^ lol, just 2 interviews from Texas for me, as far as some of my OOS schools are concerned, I made the 1st cut at all of them. Mayo gave me an LOR request, Wake gave me a secondary, Medical College of Wisconsin small pooled me, and Wayne state gave me a secondary. These are all 1st cuts at all of these schools, so that is a good sign. Mayo gives LOR requests to only 20-30 percent of its applicants, Wake gives secondaries to only 2000 kids out of 7500 that apply, Medical College of Wisconsin only small pools 20-30 percent of applicants, and Wayne is selective as well in secondaries but not as selective in their 1st cut as the other schools that I mentioned above. I won't find out if I get interviews from any of these schools for another couple of weeks but probability says that at least 1 will bite with an interview. Knock on wood.

So I am hoping for better luck OOS than I had in Texas, and better luck in Texas as well lol. 😀

And with your numbers its not a question of if you will get into medical school but a question of what school will you choose over the other ones

No tech love either. Is it just me or does tech give out fewer invites to south Texas residents than the ut schools? I'm from Houston and very few of my friends have gotten anything from tech, mostly ii's from ut schools.

Funny. I'm in Houston and have only heard from the Techs....

similarly, from Houston (born and raised, no Lubbock ties) and only have heard from Lubbock. nothing anywhere else. trying to keep my hopes up though!
