Anyone get an II with a 29 mcat? I have a 29q and 3.6. NY resident. Submitted secondary in August and haven't heard yet...

I think with a 29 MCAT u have a shot but they are very heavily NJ resident biased so I think that's whats hurting you.

I'm in the same boat. 29S, 3.677 cum NJ resident. I actually e-mailed Dean Heinrich back in the day, like Sept or August and he was like "your GPA is good but MCAT is questionable. Be patient."

I've been patient man 😕 Please just let me know if I'm in or out :xf: (but I really want in!! :scared: :scared: :scared:)

How long ago did he say to "be patient"?

I'd have to search my e-mail to find him but probably around September end I think. Still waiting, have very little faith in myself. I'm probably going to get rejected 🙁

I'll edit and only say that I am happy to be going somewhere else...

Good luck to everyone at NJMS.

I am a NJ resident with a 30Q, 3.7 sGPA (with a 4.0 post-bac at Rutgers-Newark), 3.3 cGPA, and 10 years as an EMT/ED Technician at a Level I Trauma Center here in NJ. I was excited to meet with him face-to-face back in July that a mutual friend who is very high up at University Hospital had set up, and our 15 minute meeting was laughable. He is a non-engaging, cardboard cut out of a man who should hang it up. He made me feel like I was wasting his time, told me to re-take my MCAT, and that I would not be getting an interview from them.

... needless to say, I've already gotten an acceptance elsewhere and am also waiting to hear back from Robert Wood Johnson, which is my number one choice where I interviewed at back in September.

I'm sorry about your bad experience, but I know for myself and I'd guess for most other people who've met him/received a phone call would agree otherwise.

After going to the luncheon last week and hearing all the speakers/students, NJMS is one of my top choices among the schools I have to choose from. I think the merger with Rutgers and Rutgers moving to the Big10 will have a tremendous impact on the NIH funding of the school (I've heard estimates they would be in the top 20-25 med schools with most funding). Plus the clinical experience is second to none.

For everyone waiting to hear back, Dr. Heinrich said the class will most likely be filled by December, and that there will be more accepted students events in the upcoming year.

+1 on all accounts

I think the 3.3 GPA is what made things go wrong during the meeting. And remember 30 on the MCAT is still lower than the school average. Also do you have any other ECs, particularly involving research? Dr. Heinrich doesn't beat around the bush unlike other advisers. That's what makes him great and at the same time I know people who are offended by him because of that aspect. He tells you if you remotely have a chance of getting in or not and he tells you what you can improve to make your chances even higher. If he says you have a good chance, that means that you'll probably get in if the interview goes well. If he says you need to work on some things, you'll probably get in once you improve those things on your application and you do well on your interview. If he says you don't even have a chance, then that means that you seriously need to re-evaluate whether this professional career choice in life is right for you because although NJMS has rigorous standards for admission, they are still lower than other medical schools'.

I talked to him about my chances by applying through early decision way back in June and he said that although my academic stats were good, I needed more volunteer experiences. This was surprising to me because I'd already had around 3 good volunteer experiences in the healthcare field during college. But he said I needed more. I did just that and emailed him about the new volunteering I was doing. And what do you know. I was able to get an interview and got into the school in mid-August. So please don't take what he says with a grain of salt. He might be serious and straightforward in demeanor, but he's only doing it to be honest with you and not guide you down the wrong path.

As for the merger with Rutgers, I think it'll most importantly bring much needed NIH funding to the school. At the accepted students luncheon Dr. Heinrich said that the merger will put Rutgers-UMDNJ up among the top 25 health science universities. I don't think it'll have a drastic impact on the actual curriculum the medical students are taught. And remember the clinical experience here is top notch. I've heard many stories of graduates from NJMS interning at big name hospitals like New York Presbyterian and the like, and the attending are always amazed by the amount of clinical exposure the graduates have had at NJMS. So I think the school is definitely unique among other medical schools, in a good way, and the merger will only strengthen it on all fronts.

Should I email or call him tomorrow? I'm very seriously debating this. I'm getting desperate. I only have one interview under my belt and I have absolutely no idea what will happen. I think I'm going to send a letter of intent to that school tomorrow as well but again, I have zero idea what will happen.

You seem arrogant in the way you express yourself in your comment, so perhaps you came off arrogant when you met with him and that would explain why you won't be getting an interview from them. If you got an acceptance elsewhere, please go. There are other students who love NJMS and are dying to get in and who probably would deserve the seat better than you, going online bashing the dean of admissions and the school itself. To each their own but your stats aren't considered 'good'. I had a 32R MCAT and 3.8 cGPA with a similar sGPA and extensive leadership, volunteering, shadowing, and health care working experience as a traditional student and even when I met with Dr. Heinrich, he said that my credentials could be stronger and that I would likely get an interview at least. Mind you, my MCAT was spot onto their accepted student average and my GPAs were higher.

... seems like I touched off a nerve with you and for that I apologize. Was simply stating my opinion which you seem to vehemently refute. Well as you said, to each their own. My post was not made with malicious intent, as I am quite happy and excited about my future. Good luck to you.

I was really impressed by what I saw at accepted students' day.

Do you have any specific reason to believe that the merger and the football move will change NIH funding? I am thinking the same thing but I was just wondering if there was any evidence for this?

Yea there's an academic component to the Big10 merger as well but slightly different. It includes University of Chicago as well as one of the schools in the academic conference that shares resources and money. Two of my friends are second years who showed me an email that the school sent out about it to the students.

Not sure if srs...

Got the call from Dean Heinrich today! So excited and relieved (I was giving up hope).

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

I have a 3.4 undergraduate in a PharmD program and 29 MCAT. I submitted my secondary back in the beginning of october. Should I have heard anything by now? Im a Jersey resident btw.

October is late for NJMS, especially considering most of the class will be filled in the next couple of weeks.

I interviewed 9/26 - it's kind of surprising because people who've interviewed later then me were accepted. Good luck!

Anyone wanna venture a guess as to when mid-November interviewers will hear back?

Accepted yesterday!!! Interviewed 10/11 so it had been over 7 weeks since I interviewed

Finnally got the call! accepted last night. Interview was 11/7. Good luck to everyone!

just received an email for being placed on the alternate list. i don't know what to think of this.

Got an II last week. Interview is 1/11. I'm pretty much interviewing for the waitlist?

Has anyone heard before the standard 6-8 weeks? I'm at 5 weeks now and going a little crazy.. I figure it will be after the holidays though!

Did anyone hear anything recently? I interviewed 10/25 and haven't heard back yet.

Does anybody know how NJMS notifies applicants about rejection, waitlist and acceptance?

Hi, I interviewed in late November, and got an email today about a 2nd interview. Does anybody know what this means? What is the 2nd interview like? Does this lower my chances because people are saying the class is already filled?

Got my "2nd interview" today. Dr. Heinrich just wanted to tell me in person that I got in. Hopefully this is the case with you. Sometimes the committee takes an interest in someone, and they do a follow up interview with them. Most times the outcome is like mine. Good luck!!

Did you get the second interview invite today or did you attend it today?

Also, does anyone know if njms has given out wait list decisions yet or do they do it all at once?

Got the call yesterday about setting up an appointment. It so happens that Dr. H was available yesterday.

Is anybody going to the winter luncheon? Trying to judge whether or not to go right now.

I emailed them about dress code and they told me business casual, not as formal as an interview.

I got an email asking me to schedule me second interview, so I am not sure you had the same thing. It seems like you got a call (which I didn't) to schedule an appointment with Dr. H. Did anybody else get a 2nd interview invite via email? Thanks.

For those who attended the luncheon today-- did it seem like the class has been filled? I'm a little over 7 weeks post interview eagerly awaiting a decision. Thanks!

I don't want to say it is filled or not because I honestly don't know... and Dean Heinrich didn't address it. But I did meet a lot of people who were on the fence between NJMS and other schools so I wouldn't give up hope. Even if the class is "full", people are inevitably going to switch out and if your interview went well you'll hopefully get in. Good Luck!
