Lol yea standby. So does that mean I could potentially not make the waitlist?

"Standby" essentially means wait list for all intents and purposes. I don't think people are traditionally rejected after they have been put on standby. They are basically just waiting until everyone has been interviewed to rank the actual wait list and let everyone know where they are.

Not sure where everyone on here is getting their info from...but at this point you shouldn't be discouraged by being on standby.

Will people that are on the standby list know what their rank is once the wait list is made?

What they have done in past years is let you know what third of the waitlist you're in (top, middle, or bottom 1/3rd).

I really hope you are right about standby list = unranked waitlist but according to Ms. McNeely's post in last years thread that's not true.

The Alternate list will be compiled and letters mailed in the next 2 weeks. Based on your rating given by the committee you could receive a letter that places you on the Alternate List, and you will be told which tier, Top, Middle or Bottom. You could also be rejected at this point and not placed on the Alternate List.

Yeah I remember that. I've never heard of that actually happening but I guess all things are possible at this point. However, I think it's safe to assume what I said is true unless they decide to do things really differently this year.

Has anyone on the alternate list heard anything yet? I tried emailing to see when we would hear back from the adcom in April but I didn't get a response. Trying to be patient, not sure if it's working 😀

From last year's thread, you should be hearing by late April - early May if you are going to be on the waitlist.

Btw, anyone knows approx. how many students in last year's class came off the waitlist?

I am guessing some people are making decisions about where to attend school, so if anyone has questions about Wright State, feel free to ask.

I just got a pink postcard in the mail saying that if I applied or was admitted, I should check online to sort out stuff for financial aid.

But that's all I've gotten. And I don't know my "ID" there, so I have to call next week to check out what I need to do for financial aid.

The ALTERNATE LIST will be finalized some time next week. Letters will be mailed to your preferred address as soon as possible. You could receive a letter that states you are placed in the TOP, MIDDLE or BOTTOM of the alternate list, or you could receive a REJECTION LETTER.

Thanks for your patience, I know this is a long process.

Thank you Debbie for providing some insight to a very anxious applicant!

Received the stand-by list letter today - hoping for some good news sometime soon!

I absolutely fell in love with Wright State when I interviewed!

Come on, Wright!

Come on, Wright!

I checked all the mail veraciously multiple times for a letter, but nothing here. :-/

I know it is still early as well, but also want to take a chance to remind everyone that Wright State usually has a good amount of movement on the wait list and will accept students up to school starting at the end of July. I was accepted less than a week before classes started.

They said there wasn't going to be as much movement this year...

Who is "They"? We can't predict how much movement there will be or when it happens.

The letter that came with the wait list information. It said not to expect as much movement.

My letter came in also and said not to expect much movement basically. I was placed in bottom third unfortunately. I was REALLY hoping to go here (number one choice).

I was placed in the middle and my letter said nothing like that. It just said they cannot predict whether they'll be able to offer a spot or not since they don't know how many people who've tentatively accepted a spot will drop out when May 15th comes, which makes sense

Below is the content of the letter. No where in there does it say that there wasn't going to be as much movement this year. We cannot predict how many offers there will be from year to year. Maybe you got a wait list letter from another school and are confused???

CONTENT OF ALTERNATE LIST PLACEMENT LETTER
The Admissions Committee at Wright State University School of Medicine has carefully reviewed your application. At this time, all places in our 2013 entering class are tentatively filled. We are placing your name on an alternate list from which offers will be made if openings occur prior to the beginning of classes July 29, 2013. It is very important that you keep us informed of your current address and phone number during the summer. If we cannot reach you quickly, we may offer your position to the next person on the list.

Your evaluation by the committee placed you in the BOTTOM THIRD of the alternate list. I regret that it is not possible for us to provide you with an estimate of your chances for admission. While our experience over the past several years has been to offer acceptances to individuals in the top and middle thirds of the list, this year may very well prove different. Many of the openings that occur will result from applicants receiving multiple acceptances. It is obviously impossible for us to estimate the effect of such multiple acceptances at this time.

We regret that we are unable to be more definitive. If an opening should occur which would provide us with an opportunity to offer you an acceptance, we will, of course, contact you immediately. If you do not hear from us by August 2, 2013, please consider your application closed. Please know that you have our best wishes for your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Gary L. LeRoy, M.D.
Associate Dean

What is the significance of May 15th? Approximately how many people are in each ‘third’ of the Alternate List?

May 15th is the date when applicants are only allowed to hold one acceptance and thus when wait list movement typically starts to occur.

My apologies Debbie, I was given a synopsis because it was sent to my home address. Thank you for clarifying my misunderstanding.

To Current Students: If I am in the "Top Third"-- realistically what are my chances of getting in? How many of the current class was on the alternate list and got acceptances? Thank you so much!

has anyone ever gotten in from the bottom third?

Yes. Smashweights, who is now a third year and used to post on here, said he/she was accepted off the bottom 1/3 of the waitlist a week before school started. So it happens. But like others have said each year the movement on the waitlist is different.

No one is going to be able to give your 'realistic' chances of getting in. I know that is not what you want to hear but that is the reality. Every year the movement on the waitlist is different so saying that you have a x percent chance of getting off the "Top Third" would be misinformation. Just know that being in the "Top Third" puts you in the best position you can hope to be in in terms of the waitlist. Unfortunately, there is nothing really to do at this point but to wait.

If anyone has any questions about the school, curriculum, boards studying, the students, or whatever feel free to post it. I am sure there will be more questions about the waitlist. Just keep in mind that the answers are pretty much going to be a reiteration of what I and the others on here have already said. But do not let that stop you from posting. These forums are here for you so feel free ask whatever questions you want.

Thanks Matty Bee, and I would like to add that you may email me or call the admissions office at anytime with questions. We want you to have the facts.

I don't think people will start hearing back until May 15th. It sounds like that is when most of the movement occurs.

I just wanted to clarify that this is not unique to Wright State. May 15th is when a majority of the movement on waitlists will start happening for almost every schools due to the nature of the deadline (i.e. people will start dropping the acceptances they do not want which will then free up spots for waitlisted candidates).

Does anyone know how you withdraw from Wright State? I will be withdrawing soon so hopefully one of the waitlist people here gets my spot!!!

You can just email the Admissions office. You get a confirmation email afterwards.

Good luck where ever you decide to go! I withdrew a few weeks ago and I sincerely hope one of you on here gets the spot!! Wright State's a great school and it was definitely hard to let go.

Yeah I'm having pre-withdrawal anxieties like I haven't thought things out well enough....choosing is just so....final!

What schools are you deciding between?

I was accepted to Wright State, University of Cincinnati, and Jefferson Medical College (Philly). I am waitlisted at OSU and that is where I really want to go, but UC is a close second. Unfortunately, I loved Jefferson but just can't justify the price since I have been accepted in state.

If you are accepted off the waitlist, how are you notified? How much time do they give you to decide?

When I got off the waitlist ~2 years ago they called me. I'm assuming it's still the same. Not sure of an exact time frame but I know they'd like to know ASAP so they can give the spot to someone else if you don't take it. I think I just asked for a day or maybe two to talk with my family and stuff before I withdrew from other schools. I would just ask if/when you get a call.

Just withdrew. Good luck to anyone waiting! I hope you get my spot!

thanks for giving those of us who are waiting some hope! 🙂 good luck to you!
