2012 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got my personalized rejection to UPenn CC! Oh well, knew it was a long shot. 6 rejections, 3 interviews, 14 to go. Let's hear some good news!

University of Oklahoma (neuro)
St. Joseph's Hospital
Wisconsin Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology
Wichita Collaborative Psychology Internship Program (KUMC-Wichita)

Any one hear from these sites yet?

Thoughts are with the students (and the police officers) and families of those at Virginia Tech. 🙁

No info to offer, but I'm also waiting on Oklahoma neuro and Wisconsin ICPP.

Also, going to ask again... anyone other than the one person from yesterday hear from Missouri HSC for the neuro track?

Yeah, it was kind of insane but I paced myself... it is my second time around so I wanted to increase my scope in more ways than one. I cannot remember the exact dollar amount, but it definitely started to hurt after the 20 site mark. I am shooting for 10 interviews total, so I am breaking even so far. Good luck to you, too!

You increased your scope in like 3 or 4 ways, at least, haha.

It sounds silly, like a ridiculous thing to do (based on my costs for 20 sites, yours must've been over $1000, just for application fees), but the other option is to quit pursuing the degree, so what choice is there, really? Sounds like it's working out for you, good work and good luck! 😀

Yeah, the fee schedule has 30 at $725 + $50/application after that. He had 10, so $500 = $1225! wow!

For Allegheny General...What letter does your last name start with? Hoping they're going down the alphabet and I still have a shot 🙂

seems like they are. Someone in my program got an invite an hour earlier, and her last name starts before mine. Mine starts with N, and I just got the invite 30 minutes ago.

2nd rejection of the day- personalized email for UPenn CC..

I also applied to Princeton Behavioral for ED track, which someone said they received an invite for- I haven't given up hope yet but still.

And I did apply to Bulter Consortium but for the ED track/Charis Center- anyone hear from that track??

1 interview and 6 rejections. Still a few sites to go, but I don't think anyone can prepare you for this..🙁

It looks like rejections/interviews went out for at least 1 of the tracks at Franciscan . . . has anybody heard either way from other tracks?

So if a site sent a confirmation that they received my application and said they would be making decisions in the next 14 days and it's now the 15th day and everyone else I know has heard one way or the other... is it okay to contact them or should I be patient and wait?

I would shoot them an email asking them if they need any additional information to help them make a decision and reiterate your interest in their site.

Has anyone heard from U of Washington SOM for the neuropsychology/behavioral medicine track? Thanks!

I think that's a good way to handle it (check all your spam folders first 😛).

Just got personalized email invite from St. Louis Psychology Internship consortium!

Congrats! I'm still anxiously waiting to hear from them... Hoping that since it's personalized I still have a shot. Do you mind sharing where you are in the alphabet?

I'll cross my fingers for you! 🙂 I'm still hoping for word from the Ohio Psychology Internship... :xf:

Thanks! The email I received from them said they had completed their first round of reviewing apps. I am not sure how to take that, but it could mean there is still a chance you will hear from them!

Hi Everyone!

Just found out about this resource and looks like I have been missing out on great info!

Has anyone heard from Nova Southeastern University - CPS? How about Miami's Children Hospital?

Thanks!
Suzy

My friend and I both applied to Miami Children's and have not heard anything yet.

I knew someone who had 11 interviews last year and didn't match. The bottom line is it's nice to get a whole bunch but you HAVE to know how to rock them. Some people look really good on paper but present terribly....

Which only means it's time to start practicing interview stuff...

🙁 I was starting to breathe a little with 8 interviews and 10 sites left to hear from. Now I'm back in panic mode!

I'm an M, and I got the email around 1:15pm. Good luck!

I've got my fingers crossed for the St. Louis Consortium as well! I can't imagine that personalizing emails would take a terribly long time, though, so my hopes aren't up too high. I guess you just never know, though! :luck:

In my program someone with 17 interviews didnt match and another person in that same cohort with only 1 interview matched. Like the lotto its a $1 and a dream or its 1 interview and a dream....

I did. I got an interview invitation by email that came in at about 4pm EST for that track. It was the same online scheduling deal that others have already mentioned. I'm sorry 🙁.

I am also waiting for Montefiore Medical Center.

Had a first interview with Columbia (Which was terrible, so I am not hoping for another) and didn't here anything about the second round.

Also applied to LIJ adults and did not hear anything. Or form Pace U.

Still waiting on NUMC - though I doubt it, cause everyone I know who applied there heard already.

Also waiting on Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, North Bronx, Woodhull, Manhattan Psychiatric...

Fun, fun, fun.

Is NUMC nassau university medical center??

New here and not sure if posting correctly. Got a call yesterday for interview.

Got an email invitation today (12/8) from Butler Consortium - Butler/Charis

Also, going to ask again... anyone other than the one person from yesterday hear from Missouri HSC for the neuro track?

I got an invite for Pediatric Rehab/Neuro by phone call.

LSU Health Sciences Center- adult/child invite (personalized email today)
University of Virginia Counseling Center invite (call few days ago)

Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm at a hospital based consortium. I also had a friend match at a different hospital based consortium after a phone interview the year prior. So phone interviews aren't always the kiss of death... though I agree, it depends what the site "officially" says about them.

No problem. Thanks for the info. I know of at least one site that is officially happy to make alternative arrangements (e.g., phone, skype) if you cannot do an on-site interview, but you definitely feel the pressure go to the site.

Has anyone heard from the following:

Cal State, Northridge CC
Metropolitan State College of Denver
Purdue University CC
University of Maine CC
Towson University CC
Univ of North Carolina-Chapel Hill CC
Ohio State University CC
Temple University CC
Clemson University CC
University of Washington CC (Seattle)
University of Connecticut

Have only heard from 4 sites...getting ancy to say the least!

Don't panic! Just know that the interview is the foot in the door, but you want to stay in... you don't want to be ushered out. Make sure you're ready for your interview. I've been doing a lot of interview prep.

Out here in LA practicum placement is done in a fashion similar to the APPIC match (because there's not enough spots for all the graduate students out here), so we have to play this game twice before internships just to secure each one of our practicums. Mock interviews are super helpful. Look up and find common interview questions and practice! afterall, practice makes perfect. You can get tips on language, body language and your answers

🙂 hope this helps ease the anxiety a little

There aren't two rounds of interviews at Columbia.

Actually Columbia DOES HAVE two round of interviews. At least at the adult track.
I had heard loosely through word-of-mouth that it was believed that Columbia has a practice of conducting screening interviews for candidates in the local area (for whom travel would not be so much of a hardship), and then if successful, a second full interview. For other applicants not in the area, my understanding is there is only one round of interviews. However, there must be many folks on here with more direct experience than mine, I very well may be wrong on this.
