It looks like no one is ranking Colorado's program...any particular reason?

Posters on this forum represent a minority of overall applicants. I feel confident that Colorado will do just fine and is always a competitive and well respected program.

Yeah, people that are posting their rank lists are limited to those at the top of the pile. I'm sure plenty of people were enthused with CO. They are just to shy to post in the middle of this dick measuring contest. 🙂

I ranked 11 programs, most of which are somewhere in the middle of the range, but I don't know if I have seen more than one or two lists that even mentioned them, and not at the top in any case.

I know colorado was a little sensitive about giving interviews out ... not wanting people to just apply for an inter-cation w/o being serious about the school.

Well I certainly was not looking for a vacation, but they turned me down for an interview. Oh well.

I actually heard from 2 different people who interviewed on different dates that the CO residents and faculty were generally pretty weird people and that the program seemed a bit oppressive. I don't have personal experience to add, but maybe their opinions are common.

All the faculty have horns and walk backwards. The residents live in internment camps and are forced to breed new generations of medical students. Actually, I thought everyone seemed highly intelligent and pretty normal. They were all very psyched to be part of the Colorado program. There were some quirky individuals but all of medicine is full of quirky individuals. I'm not sure about the oppressive elements - there are limited CA-3 electives but that is not quite oppressive. The interview day is a bit different than most. PD and chair "interviews" are done as a group and are really more of a chance to ask questions. Pretty informal but I could see this being a turn-off of for some.

On a related but somewhat random note, did anyone read that scathing UIC review that popped up on scutwork.com earlier this month? I mean really, just weeks before the match?

Yikes, that's not good. If that's really how the program is, they hide it well. I definitely did not get the impression that the program was is chaos at all, and basically everyone I know who interviewed there liked it a lot.

I worked extensively with a fellow who had just finished his residency at UIC (2007) and we became pretty good buddies. He would tell me the horrors of UIC and pretty much I had heard mostly similar things that what the scutwork post was saying. Sadly looks like nothings changed

Sure fooled me too...that scutwork review was awful....I thought they were the happiest residents of anywhere I visited. They even showed up on Saturday to come say hi and talk. Bummer.

why do you think you're being fooled? Did you ever consider that the Scutwork author is a bitter resident with an axe to grind? He's one of 60 residents there, where are his/her legion of followers? Sheesh...

Guess it's hard to convey a sarcastic tone through text.

And yes, even though I'm probably as guilty as most applicants for dwelling over every word posted on these forums about programs on our rank list, I am still capable of seeing the big picture, thinking for myself, and making decisions based on MY OWN personal experience while visiting a program. Sheeze.

I understand your comment though considering this whole process can turn you into a psycho over analyzing worry wart glued to forums to give you the answers to your future.

Matched!!! Did anyone have an email that distinguishEd a double match (like one ty plus an advanced)? All i got was a congrats .....

I got the generic you matched email. (I applied to prelim and advanced only). According to the NRMP if you are eligible for SOAP you did not match into a prelim program or advanced program or either. If you have a complete residency spot then you're good and hence ineligible for SOAP.

That'd be interesting to know. I can't access the list since I matched.

I matched advanced and called the NRMP. So I know where I am going, but not sure if I can say. Scrambling for an intern year isn't going to be a lot of fun.

I'm a DO and they are telling me that I can't sign a DO internship (tons available) until after SOAP is over. I think thats kind of dumb, but whatever.

I'm also at a DO school. We received an email today stating that we are in fact eligible to sign now with a DO prelim spot if we need it and that its a misconception that you have to go through SOAP first. You have to decide either SOAP or osteopathic and can't do both but according to our school if you choose to pursue a DO spot you can start contacting these programs immediately. Did your school tell you this or the nrmp?

The NRMP did. I am going to call them back.

Who told you this? Is there an email from somewhere? I just talked to the NRMP again and they said I cannot withdraw from SOAP and have to wait until Friday at 5pm.

😡

That's interesting. Our GME at our school emailed us stating that we can opt out of soap and start contacting DO programs today. But if nrmp said twice that ya can't maybe my school has it wrong. I'm not looking for a prelim spot so all that I know is based off this email I received.

Through the NRMP login page.
Only students who didn't match can access the list of unfilled programs by name. Everyone can access the list of specialties by geographical location of unfilled spots.

Even if someone did have information about what specific programs were unmatched, the NRMP has strict guidelines against those providing access or posting that information on forums.

What if you don't withdraw, but you also don't actively participate? They can't really force you to submit a list can they? I don't really know the rules of the new game, but if you have a sure thing it seems like you could just abstain from actively participating for a few days and take the sure thing.

I asked that very thing and they said no, you have to wait. So stupid.

only 39 unfilled spots...for gas.

better then 50+ for the last two years I guess. Programs are more lax or more applications (or both).

Didn't you know - you are supposed to rank according to internet innuendo and rumor??????????🙄😀🙂

Hope you match at #🙂
 I hear ya. Thanks much, my friend. I dig the good vibes.

I know a couple people who failed to match gas despite the fact that UAMS apparently has some open spots. Ego: ouch.
