2013-2014 Albert Einstein Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm a first year here at Einstein. This site has really changed since I used it last year. I'll try to answer some questions but I don't come on here often so message me if I forget check. I have honestly forgotten the interview process (happily) but I can talk life here at Einstein.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Does anyone have experience updating the admissions committee on recent activity? I've already had my interview and I just got my first paper published, first author (!), and wanted to let them know. Should I just send them an e-mail with an attachment?

i called them an asked and they gave me the name of the person whos responsible for your file (based on your last name, alphabetically) and you can just email it to them and theyll add it to your file!

Hi! Thanks for offering to help us get some info on Einstein. =)

As someone from the West Coast, I'm wondering how living in the Bronx has been for you, what are the most significant positives/negatives of the school, how strongly you feel Einstein is preparing you. Just general impressions of the school thus far.

Thanks so much!

i got an ii last week. 33, 3.82, OOS, pretty average applicant. This is only the second ii I've gotten. I was really surprised they invited me, but im pretty excited. ill be there the 28th of feb

You mean you submitted in Sep or got the complete email in Sep?

Just got an email saying that one of my letters is missing an official letterhead and/or signature. I submitted my secondary on Oct. 24th so does this mean they just now started looking at my application?

Also, I received a secondary from all 30 schools that I applied to, but this is the first school to email me asking for a corrected LoR. Does this mean that the other schools are fine with it or have they simply not gotten around to reading them yet? I was AMCAS verified on Oct. 21 btw. Thanks.

Just wanted to let you know the same thing happened to me last year. I submitted late October, they emailed about LOR head in November, I resubmitted LOR 3rd week of November, and got an Interview Invite in January :]

Great, thanks 🙂 Another question for you: Did you also update the other schools you applied to explaining to them why one of your LoRs was reuploaded?

Nope, only 2 schools asked about the LOR so I didn't bother.

ii this afternoon! Complete on 9/12 I believe. The earliest interview dates were in early march though which seems really late.

Do you think they'd bother with asking for the new letter if they didn't want to interview you?
I was sent that same message and that particular letter writer doesn't know how to operate a computer. I just wish they'd use my other four letters.
I've gone back and forth with her all week about it, and she has yet to figure it out. I guess thats why the letter was
screwed up in the first place.

you too? i submitted about 5 letters, 1 from non-science prof, 1 from science prof, and 1 from a science faculty that taught me and i worked for him for 2 years. they emailed me asking for a LOR from a science professor, which i assume means a science prof who taught me, so my current PI who is a professor doesn't count i suppose. can't believe how strict they are... in any case, it does seem someone is screening your app with a checklist, maybe just superficially to make sure you've got all the requirements or maybe with real interest in your app.

Hi guys, did any one take advantage of the meeting with a faculty member of interest option? Is the meeting scheduled around your interview time on the day of the interview? I imagine faculty are busy and it's hard to get a hold of them to meet with you. Also, did you mainly discuss potential contributions to their research projects or interest in their specific clinical specialty? I think it's neat that Einstein offers this, I just was wondering if any one could comment on how their encounters went.

Thank you!

I did and I think it went great. Since I am coming in with a strong research background, it was a wonderful way for me to connect with a faculty member before I even attend the school (if I'm lucky enough to be accepted). My research experiences and interests directly aligned with the faculty I met with, and so we talked 25% about me, 50% about his research, and 25% about the very real possibility of doing research with him if I actually go to Einstein. He said he'll try and put in a good word but unsure if it'd actually help since he's not on the committee. All in all, if there is a good reason why you're meeting said faculty member, I don't see why you shouldn't! They schedule your meeting around the interview. Hope this helps!

Has anybody sent in an update letter/LOI post-interview? I know they don't send out acceptances until after 1/15, so would it make sense to send the letter soon after we interview or closer to January? If anybody from last cycle did this and it worked out well, please let me know. Thanks!

+1, would love to know as well.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive response! Very helpful post 🙂

Hey everyone!
I am an MS2 at Einstein right now and absolutely love it!
AECOM is truly a great place, and an amazing experience for students.

I would be happy to answer any questions at all anyone may have, so feel free to ask away here or PM me 🙂

I'm also involved with the student tours the day of interviews, so maybe even see some of you all!

Happy Thanksgiving all! I know the interview is open-file, but does this mean they have gpa/mcat scores too or just demographics and extracurriculars? thank you!

Are you by any chance a member of The Tender Tendons?

Is there any hope for people that were complete 10/28?:scared:

How can you check your application status? Only thing I found was my secondary application portal without status updates.

Hi everyone,

Has Einstein rejected applicants pre-interview? I haven't heard anything in a while and I'm wondering if I am still under consideration.

Not that I know of. I was complete in early July and have basically written off Einstein as a silent rejection. I'm still hoping for an interview, but definitely don't expect to hear anything (though some of the people above are giving me hope!).

II invite today! I'm from OOS completed late September... the only dates available were near the end of april

Congrats on the interview invite!!!! Just got an II as well...Late April.

II today! The dates they sent me were mid/late April (who knew they interviewed that late?)
GPA: 3.70, science GPA: 3.85
MCAT 34 (PS 9 VR 13 BS 12)

Rejected just now. Complete in July. OOS, 3.7, 32. Good luck everyone!

Levitin When did you find out 🙁...I've been complete since Mid-Summer and Nothing just stuck in limbo (Also OOS 3.7, 34)

Hmm... I was complete 10/2 crazy that theyre already up to April dates. They really don't give us late applicants too much of a chance do they?

Hopefully I'll hear back soon seeing as they seem to be at the end of September now

Hey, well I'm from the East Coast and from NYC so this is home to me. However a bunch of folks here lived off of the Pacific Ocean. I think the major thing I've noticed about them is the hunt for winter clothes. Lol, I think there were shopping trips to get things from boots to coats.

I LOVE it here. Medical school is tough and tiring for sure but that is anywhere you go, no one can make the crazy amount of info you have to learn easier to memorize. But you should go some place you want to be. I like the Bronx, again I'm from the city and a Yankees fan, so its no big deal. My class is the best. We have Pass/Fail so we share everything, we have a facebook groups for mnemonics, study tips, and notes. Med school is fun to me, I'm meeting cool kids and exploring. First year gets more doable, I leave the Bx about every weekend. The negative is that the train stations aren't nearby and you have to bus it to the train.

As to preparing you... the classes are good, I can't compare them to other schools. Patient exposure well you are given a site in October. We have started doing patient write-ups -_- not my strong point. I interview about 4 patients at my site a week. Also depending on site/ teacher some of us are learning to present information to your peer -_- not my strong point. Haha, I mean its all new and stuff that I never did before.

Can't think of much else but ask away. I apologize in advance, I'm like eating breakfast, typing this, and getting ready for class. Hope I helped.

What's the research environment like? How easy is it to get funding to do independent work or travel to conferences?

If Einstein is scheduling interviews into April, it looks like I'll be withdrawing. Great school, great place, just don't envision myself interviewing when I should be apartment searching. Good luck to the rest of you!
